Nightmare 06 – The girl in my dreams
After waking up, I immediately thought of a way to recover my memory and find some clues about that girl. It had never occurred to me since I never felt the need to but after meeting her in my dreams, I had begun to change.
Even after last night's nightmare, I still haven't gotten any good leads. Whether about my memories nor the girl in white, it was no good.
"Now, where should I start?" I asked myself as I sat on my bed. I deliberated for few minutes before I realized that everything I could thought of were mere hypothesis and that I could not make any progress like this. I needed to act and this would require me a basis for my action. "So firstly, I needed to believe one of my hypotheses and act according to it."
The possibility that I sided the most was one about the girl in white existing in the real world. I had no proof and the hypothesis where she was just my imagination was most probable. But somehow, I don't want to accept that. To deny her existence completely was something I could not do especially when I recall all the emotions she showed me.
"She is a human, and starting now, I would believe that she exist somewhere in this world," I declared to myself. I stood from my bed and then stared at the sky beyond the window before I pumped myself up. "All right!"
Searching randomly wouldn't probably work but for now, I began on looking for things within my room to find anything that can serve as clue. But after an hour.
"…It's no use," I muttered out loud. My room was just an average boy's room and I had just finished searching everything that I thought might contain some clue.
'If only I could search my past in the net.' An idiotic thought entered my mind.
The internet wasn't that convenient that it could reveal any questions. If it were the case then a lot of problems of human beings would been probably solved.
"No, wait." I suddenly shifted my vision on my personal computer placed on my desk. Internet possess enormous amount of information and the accident I was involved six months ago might just be found in it.
After I started it up, I opened the browser, typed the appropriate keywords and clicked search. There were various results that came out and I clicked the one with the headline "Ikebukuro Traffic Incident".
"…Just how idiot am I?" I stared hard at the screen unconsciously, muttering those words.

I have been wandering without any aim, unaware that I was leaving her behind.

Immediately, I changed my clothes and dashed outside my house, without notifying my parents. I was no longer permitted to go out on weekends but I couldn't care about that now. My heart had not stopped beating fast since I saw that.
'It was so simple. Why did I only thought of that now!?'
I cursed myself internally as I rode the train. My destination was within the neighborhood, not the school, nor the ramen shop. My walking speed was considerably fast as I could not suppress the urgency in me.
Within an hour, I finally arrived at the front of a big structure. It was a general hospital and I was already sweating profusely when I got here. If the information I saw in the net was accurate, then…
In the lobby, there were few people so I was able to inquire easily at the reception desk to get the room number of the person I wanted to see. I rushed at the elevator and pushed the button for the third floor. My steps echoed in the hallway as I smelled the thick air of disinfectant. I passed rooms by rooms as I concentrated my eyes on the room numbers without my walking speed slowing down. The people on the hallway were looking at me strangely too but I didn't pay them too much attention. Few moments later, I suddenly stopped at a certain spot.
In my front was a private room, which had the nameplate "Akasaki Yume." Seeing the nameplate brought me even more anxiety and I could feel my breathing became heavier. Slowly, I opened the door and took a peek inside.
It was a regular-sized private room with a simple design. From my position, I could see a table with a flower in a vase on it. Past the flower was the window letting sunlight pour into the place. There were few apparatus I could see as well such as monitors for the heart rate. They were connected to the person laying down on the hospital bed.
In the incident six months ago, I was not the only victim. There were two victim and both resulted in a coma state. The male one woke up after two weeks but he forgot about his past memories, in other words, me. And the other victim was a female. She had been with me in the accident and she was still sleeping even now.
"Yume Akasaki…" I called out her name as I looked at her silently sleeping on the bed. It was a girl with height of around 150 centimeters, wearing a white hospital gown. She had a long black hair that could reach to her stomach. Her closed eyes were peeking between the spaces of her bangs.
This girl, was undoubtedly, the girl in my dreams.
—————————————————————————————————
To think that she was this near. The girl in my dreams, turned out to be a reality.
—————————————————————————————————
I could never mistake about this. She was the girl in white. This meant that she was real all this time.
That realization made my legs weak and I knelt down on the floor as I cling to her bed. I had already seen in the new who she was but seeing her in actual person was a different matter. Even now, I still couldn't fully grasp the situation and I was still a bit confused. I looked at her beautiful face and I extended my hand to hold hers. I gripped them gently.
"I still can't remember anything but will you please wait for me? I will get back the time I lost. When that happens, please wake up and we'll live together in this world."
It was my answer to her question last night.
I stayed by her side for a little bit more before I decided to leave. I would find a way to regain my memories as soon as possible and my next destination was in Ikebukuro, the place where the incident happened.
In these long six months, I thought the world was gray and lifeless. But right now, with each step I took as I head out, it felt like as if new colors were being added.
The sleeping girl in her bed made me open my eyes to the truth.
And now, it was my turn to wake her up.
