Waking up in an odd bedroom, I realized that someone called my bed and that was the last thing I remembered from last night. Tip-toeing, Emma was fast asleep when I entered and still did not understand how she found my bed a better comfort than her own. The effects of being a guy, I guess. The problem, though, was that my uniform was always in the drawers UNDER my bed. You could feel the creaking of the wheels rolling under the mattress and could tickle the side the mattress is facing.
So, heading to the bathroom, I grabbed my ribbon, and started to sing offkey. I usually do not, but to wake her up, that was the only way to. Plus it is a lot of fun to see her mad.
Plunk! A pillow hit my head, as expected. "You are such a pain! What is it about women and her beauty sleep that you do not understand?" she squealed. "You are such an awful singer in the morning."
"Maybe the fact that you have to get to work soon? Plus, Emma, you slept in my bed and you know the consequences for that." I winked at her.
"Why you-" Her face was red.
Dev walked in. "Would you two shut up already? I am going back to bed and no one better wake me up." Then Dev walked off.
Looking at each other like little children walking up the adults on Christmas morning, we ran down to get a big pitcher of ICE cold water. Emma and I carried an end and went to his room for the prank. I opened the door, hoping not a creak would sound. He was fast asleep. Tip-toeing through the room, he was snoring as usual. I grabbed the pitcher and Emma climbed into bed with him. She kissed him awake enough that she ran out as I splashed Dev with the water.
The fury on his face! It was the perfect combination of laughter and anger. He jumped up and ran for me first. I was quicker and shut my bedroom door behind me. The next thing I hear is the sound of squealing and peals of laughter. Moments like these made me feel comforted that nothing would ever change.
"Breakfast, children!" my father yelled.
Running down, we each claimed our usual spots at the table and had delicious food, Emma and Dev got ready for their days. I was reading a book when I heard the familiar Click clack of heels. My mother was walking down with her Sunday best on. It made no sense to me why she did such a thing. Always dressing up as though we know people that were super important. "Sweetheart, I want you to stay here for the day, okay? You need to see who we have visiting today."
"As if, mother. I need to go to the bakery. They are expecting me to make bread today for the orphanage's wedding. You know how much it means to me that the bakery does this."
"Not today-"
Go, son," my father interrupted, "we have everything taken care of here."
"But-"
"Honey, he needs to learn to be a kind, caring, and demanding lord. I am afraid of what would happen if he did not."
It looked as though my mother knew what he was referring to, but I did not. The sentence confused me along with my friends. Once finished with breakfast, I went to work along with Emma and Dev.
"Do you know what that was all about? I mean, your mother acted stranger than usual. Wanting you to be something you're not. That never happens."
We laughed. The thought of my mother trying to keep me the way I am is not an easy task. My father is too proud of me and wanted to make sure that I stayed with my wild yet humble ways. They always bickered over me. Mother has a way with my father that he never gives in to her, just grows stronger. I never know how they have lasted this long.
"Whatever it was, they can easily work it out. I don't know how, but they do." I reply.
"We have to go to work! Thank you Misure and Mademoiselle Crasse. It has been a lovely time spent with you." Emma greeted. I loved how she was polite to everyone, but I was afraid that one day, it would get her killed.
"You need to stay her for an important meeting!" Dev mocked my mother. Sadly, he did such a great impression. Laughing on our way to work, we had managed to have a wonderful day. Emma, I was told, had sold multiple pieces of clothing. Dev and I made 10,000 cupcakes and iced them all with the help of technology. When I got home, my mom and dad were standing there, worried.
"Oh, Honey!" my mom cried. "We thought that you had something bad happen!"
"Well," my father started before he got a glare. "We knew at the very least that you would be back home or contact us if you were staying at Dev's house."
"Why so worried, Mom?" I questioned.
"They issued a curfew until Robin is caught. No going out after the sunsets. And once the light hits is when we can leave the house."
It was not even like the last light hit when I got home and my mom was telling me this. It seemed odd, but I dealt with it. Not everyone could have a mom that cared like this, and this was a good day for her. I wanted to cherish her being like this since the loss of her baby which was only a couple months ago.
That night, we played games, ate, and enjoyed ourselves as family. She was oddly kind and I wanted to say something before the night was over. Mother got up, whispered something in my father's ear that made him smile, and left.
"Son, I know the loss of your baby sister was hard on you and most of all your mother. She just wants to do what is best for her family."
"I know father."
He got up, and chased after her like a high school boy. I smiled and chuckled underneath my breath. I went to the kitchen and made some of my favorite ice cream. Strawberry vanilla because of what it represents to me. I sat down and turned on the tv to the jousting show. Once done, and sleepy, I headed to bed and fell right asleep.
She was standing in the field with a white dress and flowers in her hands. Her beauty was surpassing and I walked to her in what seemed to be an aisle. My mom was on the girls side as a bridesmaid, and my dad was on the side as a groomsman. There were no words, but Dev was standing at the altar as the minister. I had no idea what she was getting me into.
"This is the moment that you have been waiting for. Us to happen." This woman said.
"Man, I wish I did not give her up. You are one lucky man. She is perfect for you." Dev said, but now he was standing across from another bride as though it were a double wedding. She looked familiar, but I did not know how. A priest randomly appeared, but looked more like the grim reaper. As the ceremony went on, I started to fade slowly, until I heard music.
I woke up with sweat all over me and looked down at my hands. I felt my face and realized I was still alive. Running with my uniform on, I bumped into my sobbing father.
"What is going on?" I asked.
"It's- it's" he sobbed. I looked over and there were claw marks all over her body. Blood was everywhere and she was torn apart. Her heart was in the fire and I was almost sick. Yeah, she treated me wrong, but this, this was not how I wanted to start my day.
