Chapter 62 - The Godfather

Hermes Marco is enjoying his morning coffee at the porch when his father sits opposite him.

Midas Marco feels something is wrong while watching his son smiling each time he puts his mug back on the table.

Midas breaks the silence. "Aren't you going to the office?"

"After I finished my coffee," Hermes replies.

Midas scans his son's face. "You seem to be in a very good mood."

"I am always in a good mood Papa. I'm just happier." Hermes beams a wide smile.

His words make Midas wonders. "Want to share it with your old man?"

Hermes laughs at his father's words. "Who's old? We are all going to look old but not you Paps. I am now the one working at the company. Your life goal right now is to relax."

Midas refutes. "Who's relax?"

"Oh yeah, if you give up the Ronian Liberal Party you can just relax," Hermes advises.

"That would not happen. What you want me to do? Just stare at all the spaces in our house? And look at the vast sky and count the stars in the sky? Are you trying to make your father crazy?"

Hermes placates Midas. "No. I'm the crazy one."

Midas recalls something. "That's so true. What is this I heard that you were guarding Rosa Andrei? She is already married, my good son."

"I know. And she is married to your favorite senator."

Midas sighs. "At least you are aware of all the facts."

Hermes exclaims, "What can I do I'm in love!"

"Give up on Rosa. Look around for unhitched women."

"How about you give up on your political party and I'll give up on Rosa."

"Do you want to negotiate with your father?" Midas glares at his son.

"But I cannot just change my heart, Mr. Godfather," Hermes reasons.

"You have to. Or I will schedule you for an operation."

"I am not sick."

"Either you have a heart ailment or a brain malfunction."

Hermes looks at his father. He blinks his eyes several times.

Midas calms himself. He pleads, "Please son, consider somebody else. I am considering to reward you if you did."

Hermes comes back to being jolly. "Really? Make sure you are serious about it."

"I am. I'll give you the mining title and an island resort when you get married. Just give up on Rosa now. Deal?"

Hermes' eyes twinkle. He smiles at his father. "Let me think about it Paps. I have some monthly company conference. I need to go to the office now."

He taps on his father's shoulder then strides fast to the front door.
