Chapter 23 - So, You Are The One Who Drank My Coffee Last Night?

Mu Yuhaan's words snapped Mian back to reality. She was flummoxed, and tongue-tied for a few seconds, before getting back her wit. She immediately averted her gaze from Mu Yuhaan's face.

For a second, just for a second, Mian thought of shoving the dialogue at Mu Yuhaan's face; but somewhere inside she still cringed at that cheesy line.

"I'm Mu Yuhaan. We are neighbours." Mu Yuhaan said, extending his right hand towards Mian. His sangfroid and decisiveness sustained him through all the tough and gruelling situations. Albeit, coolness was the least word to describe his countenance at that moment, determination and decisiveness was stationed just at its place.

Mian squeezed out a smile, then hesitantly put her hand forward. "Li Mian. Nice to meet you." She said, accepting Mu Yuhaan's hand.

Well, she couldn't help but feel a little irked inside. So what if she stared at him for a few seconds? Was it necessary for him to mention it to her face?! Now she would retrieve that paper ball from the trashcan and open it again!

"So, you are the one who drank my coffee last night?" Mian glowered at Mu Yuhaan sceptically, before she asked bluntly in an attempt to make this demigod feel ashamed, while trying to retract her hand from his grip.

Why wasn't this coffee-thief letting her hand go?!

"You make great coffee. Maybe sometimes, I can visit you and have some coffee at your place?" Mu Yuhaan proposed shamelessly, without letting Mian's hand go. Funny part was, he himself was unmindful of his cheekiness.

Greatly taken aback by this pertness, Mian was left speechless. As he indeed stole her coffee last time, her words should have stricken a sour note within him.

However, confronted with her derision, let alone putting a word of apology, his facial muscle didn't even twitch!

Well, it required an extraordinary load of brazenness to ask a total stranger for a coffee invitation, and he clearly had it!

Clueless to Mian's inner thoughts, Mu Yuhaan patiently bided his time, holding her hand.

'So soft and supple hands.' Mu Yuhaan thought.

Mian had long slender fingers unlike most girls. Mu Yuhaan felt, if he exerted a little bit of energy, her hand would get cracked.

Mian fell into a state of confusion. She didn't want Mu Yuhaan at her place, but was also unable to give him an outright refusal. Wouldn't that mean she was boor and stingy? She didn't come from a family of cheese-paring!

"Umm..sure. However, I'm a neurosurgeon, thus, most of the time I'm busy." Mian sincerely hoped Mu Yuhaan would understand the underlying reluctance behind her sentence.

Unable to contain his joy, Mu Yuhaan asked eagerly, "How about tonight then? When will you be back?"

Although, he knew when Mian would be back, he couldn't tell her that, as it would make her suspicious of him. Her shift would end at 6 PM. First People's Hospital was near to their place, so ten minutes would be at max for her to reach home.

"You can come at 7 PM." Mian said helplessly, and retracted her hand with a little force, as the man wasn't letting it go. Saying this, she directly headed towards her apartment without looking back.

Mu Yuhaan wanted to stop Mian for some more talk, then decided against it. His gaze lingered on her back, until she completely disappeared from his sight; then he looked at his hand, missing the warmth which was there a while ago.

Tonight at 7 PM! She invited me to her place!

Early that morning, Mian prepared to leave for the hospital, as it was her first day there, she needed to familiarise herself with other doctors and nurses.

First People's Hospital was the biggest and most effective hospital in Beijing. It's performance was commensurate with its reputation; like it's reputation, it's performance was also best.

This VIP hospital with absolutely clean surrounding area, was located in the midst of lush greenery. There were a lot of trees and plants in the hospital's garden which kept the air fresh.

Entering inside, Mian's eyes skimmed through the open hall room, before making her way to the reception area, where five receptionists had been sitting behind a long and high desk.

"Excuse me," Mian said with a gentle smile, as she knocked on the see-through glass wall on top of the counter; prompting the people behind to look at her, before continuing, "I'm Neurosurgeon, Li Mian. I will be joining this hospital from today. Can any of you show me the way to my chamber?"

Mian's beauty and aura was so compelling that all five of them were bewitched in their seats. Her kind smile, along with the soothing voice could even make women change their sexual orientation, leaving men aside.

In order to draw the people's attention back, Mian tapped on the counter lightly.

First one, who got back to his senses earlier than the other four, got up from his chair hurriedly, and smiled at her. "Sure, Dr. Mian. Director has already informed us beforehand about your joining today. He wanted to meet you first thing in the morning. So, would you like to go to his room first or your chamber?" Asked the receptionist politely, and stepped on his sideman's leg under the table to rouse him from his reverie.

It was only after Mian started walking away, the remaining three regained their equanimity.

Nearly everyone in the hall room, who noticed Mian entering, rubbernecked at her. Apparently, her beauty shook everyone's collectedness into disarray.

"Wow! How beautiful this doctor is! Like a fairy!"

"Yea, right? I have heard about her 100% success rate, but never did I think she would be this beautiful!"

"It's her first day here, yet people journeyed hundreds of kilometres in order to consult with her! I literally had to book her schedule for the next week."

"Yea, all thanks to the internet, news travels faster than rockets. Who leaked the news that she would be sitting in this hospital from today, though?"

"Who else other than the director? After all, he is the one to get 15% share after having successfully recruited the world's best neurosurgeon here."
