Chapter 27 - Do You Think That Big Shot Won't Blame You And The Hospital For Not Putting In The Best Efforts?!

"He needs an immediate second surgery. However, the problem is, the success rate of this operation is very low, five percent at most. Thus, none of us are actually confident about the second surgery." opined Gu Chen, second in charge; his tightly pressed lips revealed obvious tension.

Before Gu Chen's words could fall onto the ground, Wen Ning, opened his mouth again, "But still, I would give it a try, if the patient was not Master Qian's son. The man is an ace Mafioso in Beijing, and we can't afford to arouse his fierce anger. If something happens in my hand, I'm afraid he will eradicate my whole family from the face of earth."

Saying this, Wen Ning became the cat on a hot tin roof, he got into an agitated state of suspense about Qian Juexi lurking in the background, thus, looked behind him at the frosted glass door subconsciously. Seeing no one in the hallway, he turned his head towards the meeting room again with a sigh of relief.

"It's a double-edged knife. If we don't perform the second surgery, that would leave him on the deathbed! That madman would set the entire hospital on fire, in that case as well!" The Director couldn't help but rebuke, as his eyes flashed. Then again, he couldn't find fault with what Wen Ning said as well.

Director's facial expression was dead serious, as he massaged his temples. "What do you think about the surgery Dr. Mian?" He looked at Mian with an air of expectancy, she was his only ray of hope in this hazardous situation.

Apparently, Mian was someone with a hundred percent success record. If one could save Qian Juexi's son from this critical condition, it had to be her.

"I-" The words, which were about to roll off Mian's tongue, left inside her mouth, as someone else interrupted her.

"I heard Dr. Mian clocked up over 400 victories in brain surgeries and 1200 spine surgeries! Why doesn't she lead the surgery? In fact, I highly doubt dead people won't resurrect to lives after one touch from her!" Feng Jichen smiled at Mian wickedly with a glint in his eyes; as he rotated his thumbs round each other with the fingers linked together.

Wasn't the Director exalting Li Mian too much? He admitted that she had been a leading light in their field for a good time now, however, this case was completely out of hand! This little boy wouldn't survive, and all of them concluded that already. Now what could she do? Even God himself couldn't save this boy anymore!

It was no brainer for Mian to catch the irony in Feng Jichen's tone. However, she had a more important task at hand than joining in a childish battle.

"I want to give it a try." Mian said firmly. "Give me the patient's medical history." She spread her palm at Wen Ning.

Wen Ning, who was in charge of the patient before, handed over a file to Mian.

Mian pored over the file for two minutes, as the patient was 4 years old, he didn't have any previous medical history; only the MRI and some other reports related to this accident.

"Make arrangements for the surgery. We don't have that much time in hand, so we have to do this as soon as possible. I need three more surgeons to assist me in the surgery, and two experienced nurses." Saying that, Mian glanced at everybody.

The room fell into silence, as no one wanted to play a part in this jeopardy. Contrarily, they were judging Mian's coolness in this fatal situation.

Feng Jichen's eyes dilated, an expression of disbelief on his eyes, as he asked, "Dr. Mian, do you know, who Master Qian is?"

In response, Mian shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.

"Then I guessed right, Dr. Mian has no idea what she is doing." He gingerly made a sarcastic gesture.

"Doctor Feng!" Director Fu's brows twitched, and his voice was deep.

Getting reprimanded, a lump formed in the Feng Jichen's throat, something he couldn't swallow nor throw up.

"It's only natural that Dr. Mian doesn't know about Master Qian, as she hails from Shanghai, not Beijing. Above that, she just returned from America after 9 years." Gu Chen, who was not on good terms with Feng Jichen, tried to defend Mian. "Master Qian is-"

Mian, who didn't want to know, interrupted, "Whoever your Master Qian is, has got nothing to do with me. As a sergeon, it's my duty to save lives. My patients are my top priority, not their family backgrounds. As long as there is a 0.01% chance, I will give my 100%."

She looked at the Feng Jichen, rattling out a string of not so sweet words. "What are you actually suggesting Dr. Whatever? Not to do the surgery and let a four years old child die?" Her expression was cold enough to freeze all the water bottles kept before everyone.

"This child has a lot to see in this world and a lot to get from this world. We can't let him die by folding our hands, especially when he has a 5% survival chance and we have many responsibilities to perform. If you are that much afraid of the patient's family, don't throw yourself into the surgery, but at least stop demoralizing other surgeons." Mian's voice was calm and soft as always, but there was anger laced in it, coming from her heart in a form of little sternness in her tonation.

Everyone looked a little nonplussed; as Mian's beautiful face, coupled with her soft voice deceived them previously into thinking that she could never get angry.

Mian knew she couldn't waste time getting these people to agree for the surgery this way, nor could she lead the surgery alone. Thus, she picked up the most logical voice, "Alright, don't help me. Then what will happen? Do you think that big shot won't blame you and the hospital for not putting in the best efforts?! Without the surgery, his death is guaranteed. However, if we perform the surgery there is still a 5% success rate!"

The room sunk into silence again for a minute.

"I'm in," Wen Ning said.

Subsequently, Gu Chen and Xia Chuqing agreed as well. No matter what they thought of, they couldn't get themselves out of the circle. Better follow Mian's lead, at least there was some light at the end of the tunnel.
