Chapter 1 - World Progress

[Initiating Progress: 0%]

Mo Yin had little in the world that belonged to her other than her name and the clothes off her back. She didn't want for anything because she didn't have the ability to do so. Out of a moment of impulse, she seemed to have picked up a burden.

The infant smiled toothlessly and was content to continue in laying in his newfound embrace.

Mo Yin thought that it was funny. It had been abandoned and discarded yet it could continue to smile like this.

Put him back.

She couldn't even take care of herself, who was she to care about other people's businesses?

She knew all this logically but for some reason, she hesitated. In the end, she actually brought the little burden back with her.

"Wuwuwu…." Late at night, the infant began to wail loudly. Mo Yin gathered that he is hungry.

So annoying. She didn't have much food to begin with. Although she was young herself, she knew that infants generally drank milk. She didn't know where to get milk and she only had a loaf of bread that she had found earlier that day.

Mo Yin sighed and got up from her bed. She went out and got a bowl of water before taking out the loaf of bread that she had carefully stored away. The loaf of bread of slightly charred on the outside but was considered unfit to be sold in the bakery. Mo Yin had got it after it was thrown away but the bakery workers.

She slowly peeled off the tough skin of the bread revealing the white and fluffy interior. Tearing off a section of the bread, Mo Yin dipped it into the bowl of water to soften it before placing it at the infant's mouth.

Feeling something at his mouth, the infant stopped crying and began to gnaw that the food with his toothless gums.

Every time he chewed, more than half of the food would get pushed out again. Mo Yin would patiently push it back before feeding the infant more bread. This cycle continued until the infant turned his head away, refusing to eat more. Seeing that he was full, Mo Yin stopped feeding him.

So tiresome. The whole process took more than an hour. He also ate her food for tomorrow...she should just throw him back out.

But it's too cold tonight. He'll freeze to death.

Mn...It can wait until tomorrow

"Sis Yin!"

A child about six years old rattled a drum with his hands.

Dun dun dun. Dun dun dun.

The child rattled the drum back and forth with amusement.

"Hm?" Mo Yin absentmindedly answered as she busily used a rag to wipe a table. It was the restaurant's closing time. The owner had told her to clean up before closing up the store. After wiping clean one table, Mo Yin carried a bucket filled with soapy water and moved onto the next one.

Mo Sheng sat by the counter on a wooden stool. He was perfectly entertained between playing with his toy and watching Mo Yin work.

After she finished cleaning everything in the restaurant, Mo Yin locked up.

"Come on Mo Sheng. Let's go home." Mo Yin stretched a hand out towards Mo Sheng. Mo Sheng obediently took her hand. Two people, one tall and one short walked along the night street side by side.

As they walked, Mo Yin asked, "Isn't it boring staying in the restaurant with me all day?"

Mo Sheng responded, "Nuh-uh. I like watching Sis Yin work."

"You could try and play with the children that are your age."

"No. I don't like them." Mo Sheng scrunched up his face.

"Fine, fine. Sit around on your butt all day and you'll become a big fatty in no time."

Mo Yin says this as a joke but in fact, she was really a little worried. For some reason, Mo Sheng tends to have a reclusive and silent personality, completely unlike other family's children. Did something go wrong in the way she raised him?

Mo Sheng made a wronged look at Mo Yin, "Sis Yin won't want me anymore if I become a fatty?"

"You said that not me."

Seeing Mo Sheng's crestfallen face, Mo Yin helplessly added another sentence.

"...Want want want."

Mo Sheng's face immediately brightened up, "I knew that Sis Yin wouldn't disdain me so easily."

"Yuan Luli, I'm saying this for the last time, your beloved Liang Jian and I have nothing to do with each other."

Yuan Luli snorted, her beautiful face carried plain disdain, "You think I'll believe you just because you said so? The way I see it, denying it so strongly, you definitely have a guilty consciousness!"

Mo Yin felt like there was no way to talk reason to this kind of person. Rather than continuing wasting her time, she turned around to leave.

"Wait, surnamed Mo, where do you think you're going? I'm not done talking. Do you not care about the life and death of your precious little brother anymore?"

Mo Yin froze in her steps. She turned around and this time, her tone towards Yuan Luli wasn't polite anymore.

"What did you did to Mo Sheng?"

Having caught Mo Yin's attention, Yuan Luli hummed in satisfaction. She shrugged nonchalantly, "Nothing much. You just need to know that his life is in my hand right now."

It was a very blatant threat.

Mo Yin gritted her teeth, "Yuan Luli, what great hatred is there between us for you to take things to this extent? I have never offended you. If this is still about Liang Jian, I can swear to the Heaven's that there is absolutely nothing between us."

"Hah! Do you think that you only owe me a single Liang Jian? You owe me more than you can ever imagine and I want you to them pay back in full!"

Mo Yin really doesn't know how she offended her. The number of times that they have met could be counted on one hand and they were all brief encounters.

"Let get straight to the point. Since Miss Yuan has so very amazingly taken my brother as a hostage, tell me. What do you want from me?"

Yuan Luli smiled brightly, "Why, there's a lot of things that I want from you. But we can take it slow. How about you waste your own cultivation first?"

"Mo Sheng is really with you?"

"Of course. If you don't believe me, have a look that this."

Yuan Luli tossed a black orb at her. Mo Yin looked and saw that it was a Thousand Eyed Orb. It can display the actions of any person so long as you have a drop in the person's blood and the person's cultivation was not above the user's.

The Thousand Eyed Orb showed a surrounding that seemed like an underground chamber with rocky stone walls. Mo Sheng was tied up on the ground and was currently unconscious.

In a smug tone, Yuan Luli said, "Well, are you going to do it or not? I'm getting tired of waiting." Right after saying this, Yuan Luli then suddenly revealed a look of enlightenment.

"What, every day you pamper on this one brother, turns out that you won't even make a small sacrifice for him. Oh, but I totally understand. After all, he isn't even your real brother. Why care so much about a wild seed who isn't even blood related right?"

Everyone has a reverse scale that shouldn't be touched. What Yuan Luli said just now had thoroughly wore through Mo Yin's tolerance.

"Can you swear on your Dao that you will not harm him?"

Swearing on one's Dao is one of the most serious and final vows that a cultivator can make. If the cultivator goes back on such a promise, a heart demon will be formed to plague them, dooming them to never advance in their cultivation. In the worst-case scenario, their cultivation might even regress.

Yuan Luli held up four fingers towards the sky and said, "Should Mo Yin destroy her cultivation, I promise to not harm Mo Sheng."

Yuan Luli looked at Mo Yin, "Happy now?"

Although Mo Yin didn't really trust Yuan Luli, she could only do as she asked. The vow at the very least lessened some of her worries.

Mo Yin nodded, "Alright."

She sat down and closed her eyes. She began to meditate but instead of calming her spiritual energy into harmony, she was doing the exact opposite. She pushed more spiritual energy than her meridians could hold. As she circulated the chaotic streams of spiritual energy through her body, her meridians exploded one by one from overcapacity.

Mo Yin spat out a mouthful of blood. The backlash from destroying her own cultivation caused her seven orifices to begin bleeding.

The pain was akin to burning alive from the inside.

Despite the pain, Mo Yin refused to let out a single sound. When she was done, the ground around her had all been stained red with her blood. Mo Yin wobbly stood up.

"Keep your pro---"

Schunk.

Mo Yin felt something passing through her. When she looked down, she saw that Yuan Luli had stabbed her through her abdomen with her sword.

"You.."

"I told you. Everything that you owe me will be paid. Think of this as karma. Should've thought twice before doing something bad huh?"

Yuan Luli pulled out her sword and flick off the blood from it. Due to excessive blood loss, Mo Yin's entire body felt weak and she fell onto her knees dizzily.

Just as she was about to lose consciousness, she heard Yuan Luli say, "Oh, and you can have this."

The Thousand Eyed Orb rolled into her vision.

"Hahaha, this little brother is so fun to play with."

The man's unfamiliar voice sounded from the orb.

There was another foreign male voice.

"Hehe, look, the little guy fainted. Let's see if this wakes him up or not!"

"Ahh...ah!!"

The scream jerked Mo Yin out of her half muddled state.

Mo Sheng?

Struggling, Mo Yin managed to lift her head up to take a look at the Thousand Eyed Orb.

"Hey, he's screaming pretty loudly. Looks like fainting was all just an act."

A man grabbed a fistful of Mo Sheng's hair and forcefully lifted up Mo Sheng's face. The original fair skin was littered with dark bluish bruises.

"Ah..ah.."

Blood streaked down his face and Mo Yin saw that he no longer had his eyes. Both of them had been gouged out leaving behind two black pits.

Mo Sheng's throat had long been destroyed by his two torturers. No matter how much pain he was in he could only make a hoarse 'ah ah' sound. He couldn't even scream to relieve his pain.

The torture went on for three hours. The two men accidentally got too carried away and Mo Sheng died during the process.

Mo Yin could only watch as he died right before her eyes.

The Thousand Eyed Orb first went silent. In the next instance, the scene faded away and the orb returned to its original black color. However, the image of Mo Sheng's death continued to burn in her mind.

There were no movements from Mo Yin for a long time. Then, the strangest sensation fell upon her.

She placed a hand over her chest where her heart was and rubbed it absentmindedly.

She felt fine actually.

Her body didn't hurt anymore.

She didn't cry like she thought she would.

She didn't feel heartache.

It dawned upon Mo Yin abruptly that she would've been better off never existing.

Yuan Luli left her alive. What a joke.

They might as well have dug her heart out.

"Everyone! Today we will get rid of that vile Mo woman at last and return peace to the cultivation world!"

Tens if not hundreds of thousands of cultivators gathered together regardless of their age or affiliation. They all shouted in hot blood passion.

"Kill Mo woman, return justice and peace!"

"Return justice and peace!"

There were even ordinary civilians among the crowd. Although they don't have any fighting abilities they still chose to come when they heard that the subject of subjugation was Mo Yin. Truth be told, it was the ordinary mortals that suffered most under Mo Yin. Their loved ones were turned into evil spirits that only knew how to kill on Mo Yin's command.

As the crowd rallied up their morals, a trumpet sounded in the air.

Evil spirits rose from the ground and more was coming from the distance.

"Everyone, charge!"

[Initiating Progress: 90%]

Mo Yin leisurely watched as the battle played out. Everyone fought with the spirit of 'it's either you die or I die' upon meeting an enemy. The battle had already lasted for several days.

On Mo Yin's face was a very faint indiscernible smile.

The world that had wronged you.

I will use it to offer to your grave.

[Initiating Progress: 100%]

The world was quiet. Everything was quiet. Not a single ghost or human remained.

A long sword impales Mo Yin through the stomach, firmly pinning her to the ground.

Mo Yin did not struggle but rather relaxed with a peaceful look on her face.

It's finally over. They paid but she was tired too.

She closed her heavy eyes. Upon her last moments, she couldn't help but reflect on her life for the thousandth time.

He still can't come back even if she offers the world.

At the very end, she was just as alone as she was back then.
