The next morning, Yuan Xing was planning to meet up with her friend, Jing Fei, at their favorite meet up spot. Yuan Xing got a cab since she never liked getting dropped off by a chauffeur. It was too classy for her. She thanked the driver and got off. Yuan Xing could feel her phone vibrating, so she looked down to see Jing Fei's contact on the other end.
"I'm close by," she answered.
"Just calling to check if you're still alive." Yuan Xing could hear Jing Fei's playful voice across the line and smiled to herself.
If Yuan Xing was considered a wild child in the eyes of many, then Jing Fei was a pariah for her bisexual preferences and unique appearance. At times, it was astounding to watch the odd mixture of her exaggerated feminine personality with her mismatched androgynous face that is said to look a touch masculine.
Surprisingly, it worked out well for her in the entertainment industry, as the fans took to her eccentric personality and curious appearance like a moth to a flame. It didn't deter away from her beauty but actually enhanced it which is why so many women were attracted to her. Yuan Xing walked toward the cute café and saw Jing Fei's dyed red hair from a distant.
"I'm walking towards you," she replied and ended the call.
Jing Fei stood up and waved her arms about whilst inconspicuously looking around to see if anyone saw her. She had a mask on her face paired with black sunglasses, but the disguise was flimsy at best. Fortunately, this particular café rarely had many customers because of its poor location.
As soon as she sat down in the available chair, Jing Fei pounced on her with a shriek which made her wince. "How's my favorite girl? I missed you so much, did you miss me? Don't answer, of course you did."
She pulled back and inspected me up and down. "As always, you look as fabulous as ever, Your Majesty. Please share some of your beauty with the rest of us poor commoners. You should really consider entering the entertainment industry though. That face of yours would slap all those wannabe 'beauties of the century', like that whats-her-name Ming Lan," she wrinkled her nose in disgust.
Ming Lan was a famous superstar signed under a rival agency and on not-so-good terms with Jing Fei, especially because of her views on homosexuals. Their hate for each other was no secret in the industry and practically everyone knew about it.
Yuan Xing kept her mouth shut and let Jing Fei rant a bit since she tended to jump from one topic to the next. Any other person would've probably been confused by the oddball known as Jing Fei. Yuan Xing let out a smile which Jing Fei noticed mid-rant.
She blushed and pouted, "If only you weren't my best friend. With those kinds of dangerous looks…" she shook her head and mock glared at me, "There should be a law prohibiting you from smiling at all."
Yuan Xing huffed and pinched her cheek, "Your one to talk. How many people exactly have you dated in the last 6 months or so?"
Jing Fei stuck out her tongue and ordered a double expresso when the waitress arrived. Yuan Xing lay back in her chair and asked her friend how work was going.
Jing Fei nonchalantly said, "It's the same as always, nothing new."
She glanced at her friend stretched out on the seat like a content wild beast who'd just had its fill.
Her waist-length hazelnut hair was straight which complimented her small face and fair, smooth skin.
The most striking feature would be her large pair of electric green eyes framed by thick eyelashes, making her look exotic and foreign in the sea of typical black/brown eyes found in China. Whichever angle you looked, her mixed descent was glaringly obvious.
She began to question herself, could Xing be a goddess who descended to the mortal world? 'Aiyoo, stupid Jing Fei, there's no such thing! you've been watching too many dramas again, but...' She looked at her again. There was no way a human being could look that perfectly sculpted as if made from the finest of jades.
One year ago, she suddenly appeared in the Yuan household as a distant cousin of the main branch, but Jing Fei thought otherwise.
Everyone else might have been fooled by the Yuan elders' explanation. The story goes that Yuan Xing's father had once saved Elder Rong, so they were indebted to her father to protect his child. Even evidence had aligned with the Elders' reasoning however, it seemed too…convenient.
She once dared ask Yuan Xing, who casually looked at her and waved off her suspicions, joking with her that she would be more suited to be a private investigator than a singer. Not that it was any of her business. Jing Fei sincerely liked Yuan Xing, there was no way she'd betray her.
