The moment I stepped arrived onto the Island, I instantly felt this sense of relief.
"Laaaand! Oh sweet land." I collapsed to the ground and hugged it.
"In all my years of existence, I didn't know someone could make such strange noises." said Lee.
"It's called vomitting." I told him
The ride to this island was a very traumatizing one for everyone on that plane, including me.
"It was gross. Please don't ever get on a plane again." Lee said standing over my sprawled out body.
I rolled my eyes
"I've never even been on a plane before and boats don't make me like this." I said continuing to lay on the ground. If I could become one with the earth, I would.
"From now on you are only doing cruises." he told me matter-of-factly.
"Well I still have to take the plane back." I told him with a groan.
"I'm going to ask your dad about earplugs for the trip then." He said with a grimace.
"Are you feeling better?" I heard an unfamiliar voice say.
I move my head in the direction of the voice and a boy with olive toned skin and dark hair was standing with what appeared to be his mom considering she looked like and older female version of him.
"I'm fine. It was my first time on a plane and the unexpected turbulence didn't help." I got off the ground with jelly legs and smiled.
"I'm alive and eager for some adventure on the ground."
"Well I am from here. My mom and I are returning from a vacation to America. Id be happy to show you around if you want."
"Maybe, but I would need to ask my Dad about the schedule."
"What about the schedule?" my dad asked.
"Oh this is um..." I emptily gestured to him.
"Emilio." he said with a beaming smile and walked up to his dad extending his hand. My father took it and shook his hand.
"I'm a local returning from America. I heard your daughter's...sickness on the plan and came to see if she was ok and I offered to show her around to some local spots."
My father's eyes narrowed. "And what are your intentions with my daughter?"
Emilio turned pink, "Nothing like that sir. I just thought I'd offer. I'd be happy to show all of you around if you want. I work part time as a tour guide and just thought I would offer my services."
"I'd just like to point out that I am a person and my father needs to be reminded that regardless of his intentions, it does not mean that I intend to act in a scandalous manner." I said shooting daggers at my father.
My father looked at me with stabbing eyes and his jaw clenched but he said nothing aside from, "Do you have a business card?"
Emilio pulled out his card and handed it to him.
"How old are you boy? You look to be pretty young." asked my father.
"I'm 16." he said.
"You speak very good English." my father said curtly. My mom walked up when he said that staying silent but listening.
"My mom highly values education. She only knows broken English and she believes that it will help me in the future." said Emilio.
"Your mother gets it. English helps many ppl. I became an English professor because I taught the basics in the Philippines in my free time during WW2 and noticed it doubled the pay for many poor farmers because they could sell goods to the soldiers. It is a good skill to have in international affairs." said my father nodding his approval to the mom.
Emilio started speaking to his mom in Portugese and she smiled and then said something back to him.
"My mom wants to invite you and your family over for dinner tonight if you would like to try some local cuisine." responded Emilio.
"Oh that sounds lovely! I'd love to help her in the kitchen. if she would like so I can learn the recipes!" said my mom clapping with delight.
My father sighed slightly while Emilio translated, "Honey you can't take over her kitchen."
"Oh I wouldn't! But I'm sure she would like help chopping or cleaning up."
"My mom said she appreciates the offer but she would never have a guest work. She is more than happy to give you the recipes though." said Emilio.
"What is your mom's name?" I asked.
"My name is Maria Ferreira." said the mom with a thick Portugese accent.
