"Are those...whales?!" i asked running to the shoreline staring in absolute awe.
"Those are whales! Oh woooow!" said my mom walking up next to me.
"I didn't know there would be whales here! That is amazing." I squealed, staring at the shoreland watching the whales pop out of the water.
"According to the book, this is part of the whale migratory path and you tend to see them on occassion." said my father looking at the book with fascination.
"Can we move here?" I asked.
"You haven't even been here 24 hours." said Lee with a laugh.
"And your point is?" I asked.
"Living and visiting arent the same thing." he said.
I scoffed. "if I live within walking distance of whale watching then I would come here everyday."
"I didnt know you were such a whale enthusiast." said lee.
"Im an animal enthusiast."
My dad opened up the fold out chair he bought and my mom opened the blanket.
"I am ready to try this wine." Said my mom opening the bottle and getting four cups. She laid down on the blanket next to dad. I walked from the edge of the rocky shore with Lee and plopped on the blanket.
"You can't sit down like a lady can you? It's just not in your nature." said my mom snarkily as she poured dad a glass of wine.
"I can assure you gentlemen do not sit that way either." said my father while rubbing his knee.
"That's because i am a sexless alien." I said laughing.
Lee laughed "That explains so much honestly."
I nudge him and my mom extended out a glass of wine to me and another to Lee.
"We are teenagers." said Lee.
"We are on vacation in Europe. I'd rather you have a glass of wine now rather than getting alcohol from a random stranger at a gas station." said my seriously.
"I'm sure your foster parents don't care what you do considering we have never met them." said my father with a whisper that everyone heard.
"You sound bitter." I said to my father while grabbing both of our glasses.
"I am. The kid is a refugee and his foster parents don't even bother to show that they care about you. It bothers me." said dad
Lee and I just slowly blinked at him. It just now occured to me that dad's perspective on Lee was vastly different than mine. According to his perspective, he is a Vietnamese refugee that lost his parents. I then tried to think about my friend Vy and how I I feel about her. Her parents are alive and I know her dad works the crawfish boats but not much else. If Vy lost her parents and was in Lee's situation, I would be pretty upset too.
"Don't be upset for me. The house I live in is very spacious and I eat well. I also am drinking wine in Portugal. I think I'm doing better than others." he said taking the glass and toasting to us.
My dad smiled, "Well lucky you."
We all toasted and took a sip of the wine. I was hit with a bitter sweet flavor that immediately hit the roof of my tongue.
"Oh that is lovely!" said mom smiling.
"Do you think there are actually sexless aliens in outer space?" I asked.
My mom, dad and Lee all laughed at that.
"Oh I'm sure there are." said Lee.
I narrowed my eyes at him in skepticism.
He is a devil so surely he would know that kind of thing.
"Are you really sure though?" I asked.
"Of course he isn't sure. No one is." said my mom, lightly tapping my me.
"He knows what I meant by that question." i told him
"Changing subject now. I say that after your parents ditch us, we go coffee shop hopping tonight and get buzzed up on so much caffeine that we stay up till dawn and watch the sunrise."
"That sounds great but that subject will be brought up later. You can't escape it."
Lee groaned and my dad chimed in with "Please sir, can I have just a little bit of context?"
