Outside the room, a cheer was heard when the baby's cry sounded. The people who helped earlier stayed and waited instead of leaving.
The door was pushed and a paramedic entered. "Where is the patient?"
The people looked at him incredulously for arriving late.
Five minutes later, the new mom was loaded inside the ambulance and Luo Jingyi thanked the vet before stared at the man. She'd seen him once in a banquet in the palace. Just a fleeting glance but she remembered well because the moment her eyes met his, she thought he was dangerous. His eyes reminded her of ruthless and coldblooded killers. In fear, she retracted her gaze and went to search for the 2nd Prince. Back then, she was a love-struck idiot that she only wanted to meet the man who gave her stomach butterflies so she didn't pay heed to what her brother said about this guy.
Even at present, looking at the glint at the corner of his eyes was sending her signals that this man was dangerous. Jingyi saw him gave a half-smile noticing that she was studying him intently. Awkwardness inundated her.
'What are you doing Jingyi? He was just a look-alike.'
Shaking her head, she reminded herself to stop overthinking and she turned away. However, a grip on her wrist stopped her.
"Wait, I want to ask you something."
With much impatience showing in her eyes, she asked, "What is it?"
"8 years ago, have you ever been to Sundance Mountain Lodge?"
'Why should I answer you?'
But she didn't know why. When she looked at his eyes, they were like sucking her into a whirlpool of something. She found herself shaking her head and answered, "No."
"Are you sure?"
"I'm certain."
Something passed on his face before he let go of her wrist.
"Why was he asking me this?' She'd been to Sundance Mountain Lodge before. When she fled the morgue 8 years ago, Alice Lacroix brought her to this place to recuperate. But she's never going to tell a stranger about her.
A Jingyi shrugged her shoulders and turned away.
"Wait!" he called out seconds later.
"What?!"
"Could I call you?"
"Why?"
"I want to get to know you."
Luo Jingyi scowled at him. "Mister, you don't have any originality. That line has been recycled many times. Plus, I'm not interested in knowing you."
Luo Jingyi spun around and walked away.
The man gave a lopsided grin and yelled. "Yun Jinghan. That's my name."
"It's not cliche!" He added seconds later.
Yun? Wait a minute... Yun Jian... Yun Jinghan... Is he related to Yun Shan, the VP of Yun Corporation?
There are only a few people surnamed Yun in the country. Something flashed her eyes but she quickly tucked it away and entered the vehicle. As soon as she was seated, her attention went to the baby and the mother, monitoring them closely.
Yun Jinghan watched the car disappear with the smile still plastered on his face.
"Young Master." The man came out of nowhere and stood behind him.
"Phone." When K2 handed the phone, he called his assistant.
"Amy, where are you?"
"I'm still at the studio boss, wrapping up the details with the store manager."
"Good. Take the Aileen dress and deliver it to GM General Hospital. Give it to Dr. Luo."
What?! Boss, are you crazy?
"But boss, that dress has to be showcased during the opening event next week. ZK won't—" she paused because he threw a question to her.
"Amy, who is the boss, you or me?"
"Of course it's you. It's just ZK will go ballistics if we take one dress out of this collection."
"And so?"
When Amy sensed his devil-may-care attitude, she gulped down whatever she wanted to say and answered, "Affirmative boss."
"And don't forget a pair of heels."
Amy thought she would have a heart attack. Taking the dress out of the collection was already a crime. Stealing from ZK's prized accessories, she's purely inviting death. But what could she do? What Yun Jinghan wants, Yun Jinghan gets. His mantra, do it and don't complain.
Amy just needed to figure out how to get away from ZK's wrath.
"What kind of crime did I commit in my last life that I was given a devil boss?" she groaned out loud.
The designer she was having a video meeting with asked, "Why? What did he ask you to do again?"
"He said—" she was about to blurt out but closed her lips when she remembered who she was talking to. "Nothing, Mrs. Li. Just some company matters."
…..
"Dainty." Yun Jinghan murmured.
"Young Master?" K2 looked at the rearview mirror and saw the big boss studying the pair of stilettos with much interest. He was smiling as he put down those female things on his hand. The next second, when he seemed to have remembered something, he ordered coldly, "Let's go."
The dangerous glint in his eyes made him think, whoever triggered the devil's horn will definitely die today.
…..
At GM General Hospital, Luo Jingyi gave the details to the nurses before she went to see the baby.
"She's a darling, isn't she?" The neonatologist stood next to Luo Jingyi as they gazed at the baby inside the room.
Luo Jingyi unwrapped the lollipop, placed it inside her mouth. She needed the sugar rush. "She is."
"She's lucky that you were there. If not, she would have suffered."
Seeing that Dr. Luo wasn't talking, as usual, the woman added, "I've informed her family. They are on the way."
"Good." Luo Jingyi never cared about other people's business but she was concerned with the woman's emotional state. New mothers easily suffer from postnatal depression.
'I hope she'll be alright.' Jingyi gave the baby a final glance before she walked away.
"Nice outfit Dr. Luo." The head nurse commented when she saw her come out of the elevator.
Only then did she look down and wince. The beautiful dress was stained and unsightly. On top of that, she was wearing bathroom slippers.
No wonder people were gawking at her strangely when she was inside.
'I need to change. I can't go to the wedding reception like this.' By now the wedding march ended but she still needed to make an appearance before Eunice kills her. She was about to leave the hospital when she heard someone call her out.
"What is it?"
She found the intern who she sent to the records room on his first day, panting and was trying to catch his breath.
"Dr. Luo, there's a delivery for you. I put it in your office."
"Delivery? I didn't order anything. Check on Dr. Xu in Psychiatry. It might be hers." She spoke fast and turned away. Xu Wei likes to order stuff online and always have it delivered to the ER addressed to Luo Jingyi.
But the intern grabbed her wrist. Instantly there was a dangerous glare on her face.
'My poor wrist.'
"Let go if you don't want to get hurt." Her cold threat made him feel being scorched to death so he released her and cleared his throat. Mustering the courage, he explained. The man who delivered it said, it must be given to her.
"The package said—it is for Dr. Luo who delivered the baby on Second Street."
