"Uncle I found the woman I wanted to marry." When he said that, all eyes were on Yun Jian.
"Really? How many times did you say that to me?" Yun Jinghan winked at him. Not taking what his nephew said seriously.
"Tell me about her. Is she pretty?" Grandma prodded.
Remembering the doctor earlier, he blushed and said, "She is."
Yun Yi's forehead puckered at her son's gibberish words. "Don't listen to him. He just got shot and he still has time to joke around."
"I'm not joking mom."
Unable to restrain herself, she knocked on her son's head. "You are barely an adult and you are talking about marriage. Young man, don't forget we haven't discussed why were you in Shanghai in the first place."
Grandma Shen pushed aside Yun Yi's hand and clacked, "Do not do that. You are injuring him more. Why are you so pent-up?"
Because she was already used to her grandmother's habits, Yun Yi shook her head and told the old woman, "That's why he never learns. You spoil him too much grandma."
Yun Yi turned to her brother's direction. "Jinghan send him to Moscow. He needs to learn."
Yun Jian knew that if his mother decides on something, it will never change. Thus he turned to the only person who can support him.
"I don't want to go there, grandma. Please. I only want to stay with you." He begged her because he knew was his only ally.
The tears made Grandma Shen turn to Yun Yi and scolded her harshly, "What kind of mother are you? He just got shot and you want to send him there. Do you want him to die?"
"Don't treat him like a baby grandma. For god's sake, he is 17 years old."
"He is my only great-grandson. Why should I not spoil him?"
Hearing the same reasoning for the umpteenth time, Yun Yi rolled her eyes.
"Jinghan, go find a wife and make babies. My son has to be treated like an adult."
'Why are you turning against me, sis?' Jinghan glared at his sister. Once the word wife will be mentioned, grandma Shen will pester him to death.
"Oh yeah, I remember. Give me your phone and I will call Song Huan" Grandma Shen requested to Yun Yi when she remembered something.
Damn! Yun Jinghan cursed inside his head.
….
Because the couple had to leave for France the next day, it was decided that Yun Jian will be moved to the capital so grandma can look after him.
Dr. Zhao tried his best to convince the family but Chairman Shen was resolute. No amount of prodding could change their decision.
"Can I speak to the doctor who saved my grandson?"
"I am sorry. Dr. Luo is at the OR at the moment. But if you could wait for an hour, perhaps you can meet her."
"I'll take care of it. Anyway, I needed to stay to talk to the police. You need to fly before the weather gets worse."
Grandma Shen nodded but reminding him of his date. The corner of Jinghan's eyes crinkled but he assured the old woman he would go.
The Chief of Surgery had no choice but to agree and arranged one resident to accompany Yun Jian in the helicopter.
As the helicopter gets farther and farther from his sight, Dr. Zhao sighed. Upon learning that Yun Jian was the only great-grandson of Chairman Shen, he wanted to use the opportunity to be close to her. He went as far as contacting reporters so the hospital will be put in the spotlight. Good publicity was what he needed to secure that CEO spot. But the old woman rejected him in the beginning.
He clenched his fist and murmured, "One day. I'll be more powerful than you."
When Dr. Zhao returned to his office and found the memo sent by the management, he was in deep thought. According to it, there will be a general meeting five days later.
He then ordered his assistant, "Go find out who did Chairman Chen sell his shares to?"
The assistant left. When he returned an hour later, he handed the information in his hand.
"Dr. Zhao, most of his shares were acquired by Zhen Holdings."
"Never heard of it. "
"It's not local. It's registered in Hong Kong. Other than the information on their website, our man couldn't find anything about this company."
"What kind of crap is this?!" Dr. Zhao threw the paper to his assistant.
"Tell him, if he didn't want to be jobless, he should figure out who is the person behind Zhen Holdings!" his bellow reverberated inside his office.
The assistant collected the papers that were thrown to the floor and left in haste.
….
On the other side of the hospital, after wrapping up her last surgery for the day, Luo Jingyi wandered off to the ER to look for the head nurse. Her stomach grumbled.
"Has anyone ordered food?" she asked no one in particular when she got to the nurses station. This startled the nurses who were gossiping about the Chen family. They were discussing their worries now that Chen's no longer owned the hospital. One of their biggest questions was, what's going to happen to them? Everyone received the memo. Rumors flew here and there. The VP was the interim CEO until the Board of Directors could decide who's going to take the empty spot. The previous one stepped down voluntarily for his involvement with Minister Chen's cases.
The head nurse who returned to the station answered her. "We didn't. Yun Jian's family sent food while you were in the OR."
"Has everyone eaten?"
"We were waiting for you."
"Why did you have to wait for me?" Her brows were furrowed again. When no one answered, she ordered, "Page the residents and interns." before she entered the pantry. In the past, she never ate with them. These couple of hours, she realized that maybe Xu Wei was right. She needs to stop being a cynic.
After finally filling in her empty stomach, she came out of the room because she was paged. There was a phone call for her. There was only one person who would call her through the hospital line. In case she couldn't be contacted on her personal number. Her phone was left on her table after she turned it off, seeing that her stepmother had been calling her numerous times.
"Are there any updates?" she asked with anticipation.
The man on the other line cleared his throat before he spoke, "All the bodies found in his garden has been tagged and identified."
The pause in the line made her somewhat nervous.
"And?" she quizzed, having a very bad feeling about it.
"Your sister's body wasn't among them."
