Caleb's off days were over, and he was preparing to go back to work that day. He sat on the edge of the bed, fastening the buttons of his shirt when Preston groggily wrapped his arms around his waist from behind, burying his face in his back.
"No, don't go," Preston mumbled sleepily, tightening his grip.
Caleb chuckled, turning slightly to ruffle Preston's messy hair. "Baby, I have to.
But I promise I'll be back before dinner."
Preston lifted his head, pouting. What if you get stuck at work?"
Caleb leaned down and kissed his forehead. "I won't. And I made sure your driving instructor will come by today. You need to start your lessons."
Preston sighed dramatically, but his grip loosened just a little. "Fine. But call me a hundred times while you're gone."
Caleb grinned. "You won't even notice I'm gone. I'll make sure of that."
With one final kiss, he got up, finished dressing, and left for work, leaving Preston lying on the bed, already missing him.
As Caleb drove to work, he couldn't stop smiling. He hummed along to the music playing on the radio, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel. Everything felt brighter, lighter—like the world itself was reflecting his happiness. He was in love, and it showed.
The moment he walked into the office, he greeted everyone enthusiastically. "Good morning, people! It's a beautiful day, isn't it?"
His colleagues exchanged amused glances, some raising their brows at his unusually cheery mood. Caleb rarely came in this chipper. Jason, his best friend and work partner, was the first to notice.
"Well, well, well," Jason drawled as he leaned against Caleb's desk with a knowing smirk. "If it isn't Mr. Sunshine himself. You've been floating around here like you're walking on clouds. Should I be concerned?"
Caleb chuckled, loosening his tie slightly. "What are you talking about?"
Jason scoffed. "Oh, come on. You've got that 'I'm in love and my life is perfect' glow. It's disgusting, really."
Caleb laughed, running a hand through his hair. "I am in love. And my life does feel perfect."
Jason gasped dramatically, placing a hand over his heart. "Look at you! All head over heels. Your baby boy got you completely whipped, huh?"
Caleb shook his head, chuckling. "Yeah, he does."
Jason clapped him on the back. "Good. You deserve it, man. But don't get too distracted, lover boy. We've got work to do."
Caleb nodded, trying to focus on his tasks, but every now and then, his mind wandered back to Preston. He found himself checking his phone often, making sure Preston was okay. Even as he worked, a smile never left his face. He couldn't wait to get home to the love of his life.
