Chapter 4 - There is no Refusal

"Not true. If there is a will, there is a way. Someone once said that to me," Deus points out. "But really, it is not as impossible as you have believed, Michael. Just think outside of the box, and to be fair here, I can name at least a dozen people in the world that can complete that task without any problem."

"Then why don't you get one of those people to play your game," Michael retorted.

"But I want you to play. And because I am already here," Deus responded, childishly, "and I think I like you more than those other people. Heh."

"No. In all respects, I really do not want to play your game," Michael refused. There was no reason for him to play anything, especially when his soul was on the line. He also made a promise to go to Church and confessed his sins after all of this.

And Michael was fairly sure that he could talk for hours on end to a priest about how miserable his life had become. How he had accomplished nothing in the end.

Deus stared at Michael before letting out a sigh. He was disappointed. "Okay. If you don't want to play my game, then I will just find something fun to do. Maybe it can be fun to send a few of these things to your world and see how the people reacts. Could be really fun."

The way that Deus had said that made Michael dreaded.

"Umm… what things?" Michael was afraid to ask, and Deus pointed at the sky to show the things that he was referring to.

Several black portals manifested themselves, and from the pitch blackness within, what emerged was enough to make anyone pissed their pants. The mechanical monstrosities were massive and extremely bulky, reaching several kilometers easily.

"A-are they what I think they are!?"

Michael gaped at that what were hovering above in the sky.

"Uh huh," Deus nodded and magically produced another apple in his hand. "If I can bring you into this digital space then surely, you know I can bring anything within the digital realm into the real world. It is as easy as one, two, three."

"No. No. You can't do that! What the fuck! How is that possible!?" Michael uttered with fear.

The mechanical behemoths hovered high in the sky with many biomechanical tentacles drifting about in the air. They looked like cuttlefish or squid with five limbs extending from its front end.

Although Michael had never seen them before, he knew what they were from his friend, Linus as well as the posters around the office. They were obviously based on the Reaper's design from Mass Effect franchise.

Not exactly the same design, but that did not matter, really. The fact that the Reapers were here within this world told Michael more than he really wanted to believe.

The Reapers were a figment of someone's imagination. They were not real. Or were they? It could not be true, but like Deus had said, seeing is believing. Michael just saw them, and he now believed them to be real regardless of what his mind tried to say.

Michael also swore that the machine gods were looking at him, ominously.

Luckily, those machine gods were unable to do any more than that, as if they were being forced to do something outside their own desire. Why was the case? Michael did not know.

"It won't end like in the games," Deus said and bounced the apple in his palm. "Your world will try to fight them, but it will be to a futile end. These things can vaporize any cities from high orbits, and there is nothing the people of your world can do to stop them."

"W-why? Why? Why would you do this?"

Michael turned to the young boy, who did not seem to be so young anymore, and Deus was right.

From high orbits, a Reaper could bomb the human race to extinction let alone a dozen of them. Even one of them landed on Earth, allowing humanity to strike back, it would still be the end of the human race. There was no way the military of Earth could find them and win.

This was not like in Hollywood movies where humanity somehow could beat a technologically superior species and then become highly advanced within the span of a decade.

"I don't understand," Michael said weakly. "If you wanted something, you can just ask the president or anyone in the government. They will give you anyone you want."

Deus caught the apple in his palm and looked at Michael. "There is really nothing what I want, Michael, for I am a God within this realm, but I want to see your conviction. If you truly believe in your vision, then you will bet everything you have to make it a reality. Only then it will worth something."

Deus smiled. "So, I will ask you again, Michael. Will you or will you not?"
