Matt has been cleaned and has been fed really well. He hugged me and thanked me for being kind and he said that "It's rare to find someone so nice in this world." I stared at him like he's my grandfather whom I never met before, teaching me life lessons but I smiled at his cleverness because it's also rare to find 7-year-olds to be this smart. He softly laughs at my reaction to him but Kai decided to break our moment thereby announcing that our parents are home.
"Don't worry, okay? I'll talk to them first by myself if you're not comfortable yet." I said while caressing his brown wet hair.
"Yeah, I think I want to wait for you here." He told, agreeing with me.
I nodded and walked towards the small desk to pick up the empty tray and I head downstairs.
"So are you ready to face your worst nightmare?" Kai suddenly said out of nowhere and I smacked him in his head while frowning at him. "Ow, ow, ow. STOP!"
"When will you ever act your age? I feel like I'm older than you, idiot." I hissed at him and continued walking while glaring at the floor.
"Mom? Where are you? Dad?" I called out for them while walking into the living room but when no one's there, I head into the kitchen.
Mom is there, wearing her apron, preparing to cook dinner, or bake something while dad is sitting on a chair and they looked like they were having a deep conversation before I came in so I stared at them awkwardly, silently asking their permission to speak.
We're all having staring contest until mom sighed and shake her head at me. "Instead of just staring and standing there, will you just tell us what do you want from us?"
Dad laughed when mom broke the silence and I just cleared my throat while taking a sit in front of dad and placing down the tray on the table.
"Mom? Dad? Will you promise not to be angry at me?" I pleaded while glancing at both of them.
"What is it, honey?" Mom asked while walking to find ingredients for what she'll be cooking.
"You might want to take a seat for what I'm going to say." I said while watching her, walking back and forth. being busy as usual. I look up to mom a lot because she's a very strong woman. Well, most moms are strong and gorgeous women.
"Okay, just tell us what's wrong?" She said while pulling out a chair and taking a seat beside dad while she folded her arms on her chest, giving me a serious look.
"You wanted to have another son right? Because your current son is an idio-"
"Language, young lady." Dad warned and I just smiled innocently.
"Well, your dreams are going to be true because I bought someone home with me. You'll like him, I promise!"
"Don't tell that you have a boyfriend?! Already?! You don't even have friends!" Dad exclaimed while standing up and looking around.
"Really, dad? Thanks for pointing out that I'm lonely but no. I don't have a boyfriend. I'm not interested to have one." I explained and I'm even trying hard not to roll my eyes at them or else this conversation will never end.
"I brought a kid with me. I almost hit him with the car because of some personal reasons that I can't really tell...more like I don't know how to tell but anyway, his name's Matt and he's a homeless 7-year-old kid. It breaks my heart just thinking about it, mom, dad, I couldn't leave him all alone there. He doesn't even have a place to sleep in."
They both looked at each other after my explanation and they nodded at each other. "Are you taking some kind of drugs?"
I looked at them in disbelief and told them to wait while I ran upstairs to get sapphire with me so they can believe me. Sapphire looked up at me and smiled as he saw me appearing in the room.
"Sapphire, I need you to come with me." I said while taking out a hand for him to hold with his tiny delicate fingers. He didn't ask any questions and he just grabbed my hand and smiled at me.
We both walked downstairs while sapphire's hand hold my hand tighter although it does not hurt it's noticeable that he's nervous and he's trying his best to hide it.
"It's okay, they're nice but they like joking around." I reassured while looking down at him with a soft smile.
He nodded but didn't look up at me. When we got into the kitchen, mom and dad looked at me with widening eyes, and they both glance at each other again while nodding.
What's with the nods anyway? What up with them?
"S-so it's true?" Mom asked while she approaches us
"Yeah, why would I lie to you?" Mom ignored my rude response and looked down at sapphire with her motherly smile.
"Hi, honey. So you're Matt? Have you eaten yet? Luna, did you give him food?" She glances at me, noticing how small sapphire is and I nodded.
Sapphire looked up at me with nervous and scared eyes so I squatted down and rub his back comfortingly. He suddenly hugs me and I picked his small body up, carrying him while he buried his head into the crook of my neck.
"Hey, kid. It's okay, you're okay. I told you that you can trust us. Don't be scared." I soothed him while rubbing his head and back. Mom smiled at us while dad approached us too with the similar smile that mom has plastered on her face.
"He seems to trust and like you, Luna. That's great." Dad said, standing in front of us while looking at the poor scared kid.
"So does that mean he can stay here?" I asked, hoping to get their approval for Matt to stay here with us because I don't think I can leave him again alone out there.
"Yeah." "Yes," They both said but before I can celebrate mom added something. "But, young lady, as we're your parents and what we're thinking is right for all of us, you should take of him for now. You should be responsible for him because you chose to bring him here but of course, we're the parents so, in time, Matt will warm up to us and can trust us also. I want him to take some time to feel comfortable with us as his parents too."
