Chapter 100 - Countdown

"What's with the mark on your neck?" Xylvia asked me.

We had just managed to avoid a hoard of corrupted wind monsters while escaping the temple with a load of unknown treasures. It got so windy, my hair was standing up and revealing my neck that's usually covered.

"Oh this," I pointed. "It's just a birth mark."

"Quite a unique mark. It kinda looks like an apple. Or rather, an apple that had a bite taken out of it."

"Yeah, my parents have no clue about it either. I think they mentioned it being some sort of religious symbol, but I don't really remember."

"You think it means something to you?"

"Probably not. I'm not all that special."

"Hmm. I'd beg to differ Hiro."

~

I completely forgot about that mark.

I reached over and brushed my hair off my neck, trying to feel the mark. When I touched it, it felt rather sensitive and much smoother than any other part of my body.

Come to think of it, when I saw that mark for the first time in a while in the mirror, it looked exactly like the carving that I had in "my" wings.

"Adam and Eve bit an apple and we're cast away," I said to myself. "I guess this is my mark. I wonder if this Eve person has this mark on her body as well."

"She does."

I turned my head and scanned my surroundings, but no one was there. That voice sounded like it belonged to a man.

"Who are you?" I asked nobody.

"I'm glad that you finally remembered who I am Hiro," the voice said. "Man it's been a while since I was in a living body."

What the fuck?

"Woah! That's some bold vocabulary you have there." The voice said.

What the…are you reading my mind?!

"No, I'm not reading your mind. I am your mind!"

"…"

Wha…?

"Ugh…I'm Adam. The original Adam. The soul of Adam. The memories of Adam. I am the Adam from the past."

"Wait, you're Adam," I questioned, completely losing it. "Then, am I-"

"No, you're Adam too," Adam interrupted. "I'm merely fragments that was left behind from the original Adam. Fragments that made up his personality and memories."

"Wait, how long have you been in my head?"

"I've been here for about as long as you existed."

"Does that mean that you remember everything that's happened before my own life?"

"Well, yes and no."

What the hell does that mean?

"It means that I do remember everything, but they're sealed away because of the curse."

The Curse that Adam was referring to was the one that the original God had placed on Adam and Eve after they ate the fruit off of the Tree of Knowledge. Their curse was that for every time they were born, they would have to live terrible lives and die horrible deaths, only to be reborn and start all over again. And if they were to meet each other again, they would be tortures for the rest of the life that they were currently living.

The original God was killed, but the curse still remains within me, the "present" Adam.

"Is there really no way of getting rid of the curse?" I asked.

"Even with the original God is dead, the curse is still active," Adam said. "It's quite strange honestly. There should be a way to get rid of it, but I'm not really sure how to do that."

It's been two days since Kuro proposed to the Devil Kirino. And two days since both Xylvia and Leonna proposed to me. Kagashi and Yuno explained what was really going on with the Ten Commandments. As it turns out, they were being distracted by fake letters sent by the past Devil. Apparently, the Ten Commandments loved the way the past Devil ruled, so when they "heard" that he had "survived" God's wrath, they were ecstatic. So ecstatic, that they never gave the new god, Kuro, any sort of chance to sit on the Throne of Heaven.

That was what had bought us enough time to get down here and prepare for negotiations. And that was what bought everyone else enough time to evacuate in case a war broke out. There was never going to be a war between us and the corrupt Angels, Demons, Sins, and Commandments. This was all set up to form a negotiation for peace.

"I can't believe that they were just distracted by false letters," I said. "I was really thinking that we were going to war, but I guess I can rest easy now."

"I wouldn't say that so soon Hiro," Adam said. "The negotiations may not go so smoothly. If that's the case, then you may have to fight."

"Heh, I guess you're right. If that's the case, then I'll just have to stay on edge then."

Kuro and Kirino's wedding was in a week, which gave us a week to plan everything out to make sure all goes smoothly. The plan was that we were going to play it off as if we had captured the past Devil and are threatening to slay him if the Ten Commandments didn't cooperate in any of the following:

1. Giving Kuro access back into Heaven.

2. Accept their banishment from Heaven and Hell and never return.

3. Kill or capture any of the other corrupt Angels, Demons, or past Sins.

4. Write the previous three requirements into the Laws of the Universe.

If said Laws of the Universe were to ever be broken, the Red Strings of Fate, Mia and Kaito, would execute them as well as any of the other beings associated with them.

"I just hope this doesn't turn into a bloodbath." I said.

"You and me both Hiro." Adam said.

I definitely wasn't expecting to be talking with the first human ever created, but I guess having him with me might give me a better explanation as to what had happened in the past.

I can only hope that it wasn't anything traumatizing.
