What if people had the ability to create any kind of world that they wanted? A world of games. A world of magic. A world of romance. A world of beauty.
That would be wonderful... If only people would think like that.
That kind of power can never be given to our creations that we call "Humans." They only ever think for themselves. Violence. Murder. Corruption. Hatred. Those things are filled to the brim inside of a Human's head.
At least that's how it was in the beginning.
There came along one person who believed that Humans can be good people. He was able to convince many of them that we can all be good people. That we just need to control our unpredictable thoughts and live with joy and love.
This one person was a holy creation from the leader of the gods himself. This one man always had his sights set high and strives for a world where people's sins could be forgiven and forgotten.
Some people, however, don't want that kind of world.
Some people would rather live in a world where evil corrupts everything's. A world where the most disgusting and vile things are allowed without punishment. A world where no light could ever hope to shine down on them.
The man was then hung and killed in front of people, yet people still continued to worship him. They prayed that they could find salvation and live their lives forgiven and loved. Even when darkness tried so hard to hold them down, they just kept praying and worshipping.
This world was the very first world ever created by either faction, the gods or the demons. The gods didn't know if the world was worth leaving alive or not, so they decided to completely ignore it and gave the Humans their own choice of how they governed it. The world was later on dubbed a "Stalemate."
Thousands of years have passed and many other gods and demons, higher ups of course, created their own worlds that looked and functioned different.
Then, at long last, it was my turn to create one.
We are unsure of how or when the gods create their worlds, because they are secretive about most things, but we held out World Creation Ceremony once every century. Three professionally picked people were given an invitation to become one of the lucky three to create their own world.
When I created my world, I thought of the first world ever created. I thought of how Humans always have pent up rage and frustration just waiting to explode of it their mouths. Or even their fists.
I decided to create a world where Humans from different worlds could come together and fight to the "death." They don't actually die though. In fact, they don't feel pain. It's more like a tournament arc where people can come to let out all their pent up anger on the battlefield without having to worry about the consequences, since people don't actually die.
My world won first place in the ceremony and actually worked a lot better than I though. Crowds of Devils and Gods would come and watch the battles occur right in front of them. Battles would last from a few minutes to long exciting hours. And I'm the end, the two fighters would always show sportsmanship and shake hands.
I never really understood the reason behind that. Why shake hands with the person you just fought against. I've noticed the same kind of behavior while watching the other types of Humans. Why do Humans get violent when they're mad? Why do they feel the need to break something whenever they get upset? Why do they take it out on others who are innocent?
I started to become addicted to this question, as well as to my search for the answer to that very question. I started with going down to many different world in disguise to research the Human physiology. Of course, sometimes research can take to long, so I tried "speeding things up a bit"
I started creating small conflicts to see if I could create some kind of reaction out of them. I started off small and made two of them bump into each other.
I did this several times to different Humans. For the most part, they would always say "My bad" or "Excuse me."
That was all I was getting out of them until one day, I spotted a Human walking rather quickly. He was carrying a large sack and had a hood over his head, so so couldn't tell what he looked like. But something about him fascinated me, so I decided to use him in my experiment.
I made him accidentally bump into a family of four. The impact caused the hooded man to drop his bad, which revealed to have held piles and piles of money that no normal person would just carry around with them.
Unless they were stealing it.
The parents of the two children knew exactly what was going on and started to back away from him. I noticed that his hood was down, so I finally got a good look at his face.
Unfortunately, that meant that the family of four also saw his face, which is something that a criminal can never let happen.
And if it ever were to happen, then the criminal would do anything to make sure that they kept quiet.
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Those four loud noises sounded like the beginning of a pattern. They would forever be engrained in my mind.
I couldn't believe my eyes. I had witnessed a Human kill his own kind for his own benefit. A family of four, shot to death in the middle of the street. And as the man pulled his hood back an and took off, I watched as the family of four bled together. A strong stench of blood and sorrow poured out of their bodies as they continued bleeding together.
I was amazed. I never thought that a simple conflict could result in the death of an innocent, happy little family. The factors that played in, however, made the situation much deeper and complex than I ever could have imagined. The stress and anxiety that the hooded man had to endure while he was being chased by the police. The amount of planning and time it must have took for him to succeed.
I could tell that this man would've shot down anyone who got in his way. Even if it were his own family.
I couldn't stop thinking. I couldn't stop wondering. I couldn't stop experimenting. I needed to know...
I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know I needed to know...
I have to know. More. I want more...
My thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. I couldn't stop even if I wanted to. I had to know everything. So I learned. I studied. And I kept thinking...
I kept on and on until eventually, there was nothing left to learn.
1500 years later
"So, you want to learn more?" Devil asked me.
"Yes! Yes, I truly do want to learn more," I said as I fell onto my knees in front of him. "I feel like I'll go insane if I don't learn more. And when I go insane, I start to get angry. And when I get angry, I have this bloodthirsty rage. A rage that can only be cured by killing. I spend hundreds of years learning about one world, then I go on the the next. So, I beg of you, please give me more freedom! I need to know more!"
I could never last more than ten second when I'm in a conversation with someone, because they always get scared of me and run away. But Devil took what I said with sincerity. He wasn't afraid of me.
In fact, he was curious of me.
"I knew you were the right choice." He suddenly said.
"What do you mean sir." I asked him.
"Gray Lee, you have been chosen to be my seventh child. You thirst for knowledge will be quenched. I promise you that my child. Please, take my hand. Once you take my hand, all of your long awaited dreams will become reality."
That was the day that I was reincarnated from a Devil to a Sin. And that was the day when I got the name Gray, the Sin of Greed.
