Chapter 15 - San Jose Town

Ken and April continued speeding up the road, the former runs like the wind while the latter rides a boar to chase the former. The two continued running on the road until the sound of a roaring engine could be heard.

Ken looked behind and saw a passenger Jeepney speeding on the road. The Jeepney was full of passenger, even the roof contains passenger. In the rural areas travelling downtown could be a hassle, because few Public utility vehicle drove on the secluded areas due to road condition hence when a Jeepney or some type of vehicle pass by people usually tried to board even if it is full, even on the roof.

That's why besides getting away from the crazy woman Ken choose to run on the road, he didn't know when the next Jeepney would arrive.

He plans to head downtown to buy construction supplies and food, also he plans to get his truck which he was told, has been sitting in the repair shop for a week already. He just didn't expect that the annoying woman would chase after him.

Ken waved his hand at the direction of the Jeep. "Hey! I need a ride downtown!" while glancing at the direction of the crazy woman. 'Heh, let's just hope you won't follow me anymore.' He thought inwardly.

April smiled at his direction upon seeing his gaze, she got off the boar and sent it to the woods. She then walked up to him and said. "Doing downtown are we?"

He continued to wait for the Jeepney to stop, wishing it would arrive much faster. He really wanted to distance himself from this crazy woman as soon as possible. 'I don't believe a can't create some distance with in the Jeep.' Of course Ken could have continued running considering his speed wasn't slow but given the choice with running or sitting down, most would choose the latter.

After standing for a while the jeep finally arrived. "Hey! I presume you're heading downtown?" a middle aged man sitting in the driver seat asked. The man had a Boonie hat with a camouflage print and a green shirt with AFP logo on it.

Yeah, I can make do in the roof. Ken said after glancing at April.

Alright, head up there. He pointed up to the roof.

Ken nodded and started climbing to the roof of the Jeepney, after he settle on the roof he glance at April and smiled in delight. "You won't follow?"

But all he got was a strange smile from her, causing him to frown. 'This woman was probably planning something nefarious.' He thought inwardly. Suddenly the person beside him asked something that caused him to freeze.

Who are you talking to?

'Who are you talking to', this question continued echoing in his mind. He rigidly turn his head to the person who asked the question. "You can't see her?" he said in a trembling voice while pointing at Aprils' direction.

The man looked at the direction where he pointed and shook his head. "Is there something there?"

You really couldn't see the woman standing there? he asked again, thinking the person was pulling a prank on him.

This time he gave Ken a strange look and didn't answer him, instead he inch away from Ken and kept his distance.

Upon seeing his reaction Ken gave a bitter laugh. He looked at April and thought. 'Great, now this guy probably thinks I'm crazy. But more importantly, why am I the only one who can see her...' His thought continued to linger in this question until the Jeepney moved again and Aprils' siloughet could no longer be seen.

...

Everyone probably thinks your crazy on that Jeep. April laugh while looking at the direction the jeep went to.

Heh, you thought you could leave me behind? April chuckled and went after the Jeep's direction, but this time she was no longer walking.

...

After journeying for roughly 30 minutes, Ken was sitting in the roof when the jeep finally got out of the dense trees, greeting him with the breath taking sight of the ocean. The majestic ocean was dye deep blue, waves slapping the shore and with fishing boat scattered about in the vast ocean.

Ken took in the majestic sight of the ocean, he hadn't seen the ocean in it's true majesty since he always drove to town in his pickup truck, so being able to see the ocean at his current vantage point was really breathtaking.

The economy of San Jose town relies on it's fishing and farming industry, the town has been in existence for three centuries and has mainly relied on their fishing industry. The San Jose town was the gateway to the farming villages, so most farm produce and cattle were traded at San Jose. But because the government didn't see any potential in investing in the town it was only equipped with the basic facilities.

Ken got off the Jeepney and payed for the ride. He was currently at the market where people hustle and bustle, he saw a man carrying sweet and shouting to attract customer, he saw an old lady bargaining to buy vegetables, he saw all kinds of scene which was very common to the market. But for him this was very new. 'Wow, so this is what the kind of scene you would see in a market.' He was amaze at the scene before his eyes.

Suddenly, a growl sounded out. He looked at his stomach with a red face. 'That reminds me, I still haven't had any meals since I woke up, I didn't really notice it because of those father and daughter.' His face darken at the thought of them. 'Anyways I should find something to eat first before heading to the Repair shop.' He looked around before picking a direction.

He circle around the market before deciding to eat at an eatery. He entered the eatery and saw a mother and daughter inside.

"Good morning! what can we do for you!" greeted the daughter with a smile, she had black hair with strands of brown mixed in, raven black eyes and two dimples on her cheek looking like an innocent junior high student.

"Good morning too, what meals do you have?" Ken smiled at the girl, slightly infected of her cheery attitude.

The girl's face reddened upon seeing his smile. 'This big brother is really handsome.' She thought to herself before pointing at a black board with the word "Menu" written on it. "Those are the available dish for breakfast!"

Ken looked at the menu and saw the typical filipino breakfast, silog, there are a lot of types of silog, chicksilog, consisting of chicken with egg and fried rice, hotsilog, a sausage with egg and fried rice, porksilog, a pork chop with egg and fried rice and many more variation. But what really made this types of dish become popular is beause of it's afforable price and very easy to cook, even a person who had absolutely no clue about cooking can cook this types of dish.

"I'd like to order a porksilog and one coffee." He gave his order to the girl.

"One porksilog and coffee coming right up." The girl yelled and gave the order to the kitchen.

Ken choose his table and sat down before taking his phone out and dial his mothers' number, when a commotion suddenly sounded outside. Hesitating for a bit, he stood up and decided to see what the commotion is about.

Upon reaching the entrance, he was greeted at the sight of the opposite vendor being drag outside his shop by a bunch of youth with a tattoo of honey badger in their arms.

"Please! please don't trash my shop! I promise to give you the protection fee tommorow- no, this afternoon, this afternoon!" the shop owner begged the youths not to trash his shop.

"Too late, you said you would give the protection fee this morning. But you weren't able to give it so... you know the rules." A youth with a piercing in the lips said menacingly.

"I, I know I said that but my son is sick, I have to buy him medicine so I used the money to buy medecine. But I promise to give it to you this afternoon!" the shopowner beg again and turned to the surronding onlookers, seeking help but was ignored.

Ken looked at the commotion with quinted eyes. 'This youths really need to be taught a lesson.' He was about to intervene when he suddenly heard someone.

"The Honey Badger Gang."
