Chereads / Farming Tycoon / Chapter 21 - Conceal

Chapter 21 - Conceal

Ken drove back to his house but April's words kept ringing on his mind causing him to be on edge.

He glance at April who was lasurely sitting on the back.

"Hey, do you know what Derek is about to do?"

Although Ken isn't afraid of Derek and the others when it comes to fighting but he didn't know what kind of schemes were they cooking up, he didn't have any relatives here or friends so he isn't afraid for their safety, what he was afraid though would be them targeting his business.

Lucas was indeed right, he was alone while the Honey Badger Gang had thousands of members, that fact alone was enough to drown him, so if they did target his farming business that would truly be disastrous for him.

I may have been too rash in provoking them... suddenly receiving superhuman strength really imbued me with too much guts... that's right, I should keep a low profile for now but if they provoke me... Having had the time to reflect on his actions, he really had been too rash and didn't think of the consequence of his action.

"Why don't you ring Bill's number? he might know something." April said with a smile.

Ken was suddenly startled causing him to abruptly hit the breaks, the truck screeched to a halt, making April tumble due to the sudden stop of the truck.

April shouted in rage and embarassment.

"Damn, don't you know what would happen when you suddenly stop while running in 60kph?!"

Ken glanced at her and said calmly.

"It seems you know what would happen, so why didn't you put on your seatbelt?"

April was startled, speechless, all she could do was stare venomously at the back of his head.

Ken felt the murderous stare at the back of his head, sending chills down his spine but he decided to ignore it and whip out his phone.

He dialed Bill's contact number and ring him. After ringing for a few seconds the call finally connected.

"Hey, Bill, I just wanted to check if my items have been delivered by now?" Ken decided not to ask directly and probe him for now.

Bill glanced at his clock, it was almost 5pm. "Yeah, they should have arrived by now."

"Really? would you mind checking what time it arrived?"

Bill was puzzled by Ken's questions but didn't harp on in it. "Sure, wait for a bit."

While Bill asked the driver, Ken looked at April and asked. "Why can't you just say it to me directly?"

April scoff at Ken before turning her gaze outside. Apparently still angry at him.

Ken didn't expect an answer from her, he mostly figure out Derek's plan from April's clue, it wouldn't take a genius to figure it out considering his materials were being delivered at the same truck as Derek's and knowledge of Derek's attitude.

From what Ken observe of Derek, he was cowardly, always hiding behind the back, had complete control of his subordinate and would always cleverly get out of a worse situation using mere words.

From that Ken deduced that although Derek look like a drug addict he's definitely using his mind and a capable leader

While Ken was contemplating about his situation, he heard someone talk on the phone.

"Hello? Ken?" Bill's voice sounded out but Ken could perceive nervousness from the tone.

"I'm here, what time is it delivered?"

"Look Ken... it turns out your items weren't delivered..."

"Is it Derek?" he asked calmly.

"Yeah... they threatened the truck driver to drop your items on their location..." Bill answered with trembling voice.

He couldn't really do anything for Ken in this situation, otherwise the Honey Badger Gang might target his shop, Ken could only blame himself for provoking them.

"I see, what is their location?"

"Locat- what? don't be rash Ken, just ask Lucas for help, he would definitely help yo-"

"Where is it?"

Bill sighed but still gave the location. "It's half an hour ride from where you wanted your times to be drop off, just follow the road and you'll see them."

"Thanks." Ken replied without any emotion on his tone.

"Ken."

"Yeah?"

Bill hesitated but still decided to say something.

"It's just a few thousand, it's not worth the risk."

Ken paused when he heard that but didn't reply and ended the call.

He started the truck and drove off.

...

Bill stared at his phone, still thinking of the previous conversation.

From Ken's attitude and tone of voice he knew that he was about to do something foolish, and he couldn't ignore that, otherwise he wouldn't be able to sleep peacefully at night knowing he doomed someone to death.

Technically it was my drivers fault and his stubbornness, I warned him already so whatever happens to him is none of my concern but still...

"Ah! Damn it, I'll just ring Lucas and asked him to help. Youngsters this days think they're some hot sh*t!"

Bill cursed while dialing Lucas phone number.

...

Ken arrived at his house but he didn't alight from the truck.

He looked at the road ahead, Bill's word ringing on his mind. Continue following the road... half an hour ride... it's so near yet so far, I wanted to head there but Bill's word 'not worth the risk' really put a stop to my determination...

Ken gripped the stearing wheel tightly, not knowing what he should do.

"You've been sitting there for almost half an hour, that amount of time would almost get us there."

April initially give Ken some time to contemplate over his decision but as time pass she found Ken's indecisiveness irritating so she decided to break his train of thought and push him to come to a conclusion.

Ken glance at her through the corner of his eyes. "What do you mean 'us'? It's just me heading over."

April raised her brows and said with a mischievous smile. "Oh, are you worried that I won't be able to handle myself?"

Ken suddenly remembered this woman's various feat, he had just met her early this morning yet she was already trying to help him. Such actions almost caused him to feel sweetness. Or she just might want to cause havock... yes, that's right, considering her hot tempered behavior I'm more inclined to believe the latter...

"It doesn't matter, I still haven't decided yet. If I did attack them that was equivalent to painting a target on my back and that would spoil my plan of trying to stay low profile, on the other hand if I let them get away, they might think that I'm a push over, so I'm really torn as to what decision to make."

Ken explained the cause of his indecisiveness to April.

April suddenly gave a sweet laugh. "So you're starting to think of the consequences now, very amusing, but you should have thought of that earlier before provoking them in the first place."

Ken's face turned bright red when she pointed out his impulsive action.

April chuckled when she saw his embarrassment. "It doesn't need to be know."

"I know it doesn't."

April raised her brows in response to his answer. "Not that, you idiot. What I'm saying is that they don't need to know that you're the one who attacked them."

Ken was stunned and an imaginary bulb light suddenly lit up on his head. "You mean I should conceal my identity?"
