It was now almost midnight, and Pine Tree Town was implementing a curfew. Even if the city gates closed quite late, there should be no one on the streets after midnight. Entering the city after the gates are closed will require special means.
He entered the city gates the guards didn't stop him realizing he was a traveler. Syrth immediately took the paper the young man gave him before he died and read its contents and found that it is a quarter of an inn called the White Horse.
- Guard where White Horse Inn is. Syrth asked a guard who was alone throwing a ten-piece silver bag at him.
The guard at first would not respond however as soon as he took the bag and checked the contents he quickly said. "And only you go toward the main street, and then turn right at the seventh corner." - The guard answered hurriedly because he should be in a hurry to get there because he paid him for a simple direction ten pieces of silver this was enough for him to be in the city brothel for a whole day, just thinking about it he was already getting extremely excited.
Arriving at the White Horse Inn, he realized that someone was on the prowl and was curious, as this was quite unusual.
The owner of the White Horse Inn had someone extremely powerful behind him in the shadows, and no one dared make any fuss about his Inn.
Syrth went to the front door and, as expected, discovered two hidden sentries, but they really had no experience with this area, as they were using some common concealment techniques, and in their eyes they were full of flaws.
After one last check, Syrth confirmed that there were only three sentries watching the Inn. Two at the front door and one at the back.
Each of the sentries had a bloody snake mark on their sleeves. He had seen these same marks less than an hour ago.
The Syndicate of Floors. Fuck, trying to kill me and even keeping an eye on that young sister? Syrth thought.
Her heart was racing to the point where it made her blood boil. He gripped his curved dagger and slowly approached the sentry who was staring at the back door.
Back alley of White Horse Inn.
The young sentry yawned from boredom, not paying attention as he should.
This job was extremely boring. The target was a girl who could use sacred magic, apparently desired by her employer. However, their boss only asked them to observe and report their routine.
The head of the Andares Syndicate was extremely ambitious, he was no longer satisfied only on small-scale protection charges. He was now trying to make progress in the underworld. Every member of the Floors Syndicate knew what would happen to them if they did shit in this job, it would cost their own lives.
Suddenly he feels a blade pass around his neck as one hand covers his mouth, suddenly the hand comes out of his mouth and his vision is spinning completely he sees a headless body upside down and a young man with red hair next to his body with a curved dagger in his hands and immediately realizing what happened as his body fell like a piece of shit along with his head, his face showed an expression of shock and disbelief he did not accept his death but could not do nothing more for it.
Syrth quickly took care of the sentry's body. He got some trap materials and thirty more pieces of silver. These bad guys didn't have much money on them and their equipment was very bad, their weapons were more likely to be used to scare the weak, but it would be useless in a real battle.
Syrth quickly dragged the sentry's body into the sewer. Bodies of dead people would be found every day. Other than those looking for corpses, no one was interested in these places.
Entering the White Horse Inn, he saw a white-bearded man looking at him and gestured with his hand to him.
"Sir, do you have any rooms available tonight?" Syrth asked in a very calm voice.
"Last door on the right on the third floor." - The old man took a key and spoke. - Forty pieces of silver and take a shower to get that smell of blood off your body. - Said the old man with a smile on his face as if he knew what had just happened.
Syrth agreed with the value probably this should be the price to make him keep his mouth shut.
He climbed the stairs and went to the third floor he turned right and instead of entering the door last door he entered the penultimate with the key he took from the young man who died in his arms.
But as the door opened, a cold light suddenly flashed and appeared against her neck.
- You stupid bastard! What do you think you're doing entering a woman's room ?! - A girl said coldly.
Syrth quickly said as he forced a smile on his face.
"I assume you should call yourself Anna, am I correct?"
- Who are you? And how do you know my name?
Anna lit an old woman and the dark, quiet room was dimly lit. His left hand held a candle while his right hand held a sword. She had a startled expression on her face.
- Who are you and how do you know my name? Suddenly he saw his room key in his hand and quickly took it. "Where did you get that key, it belongs to my brother, what did you do to him?" Speak Now. - Anna spoke in a voice full of concern.
Syrth shook his head, wondering how he would tell her that her brother had already died, but decided to hide that part.
- Listen Anna, your brother told me to come here and take you away, we have little time, here take the necklace he wore. - Syrth threw the necklace that was on his body, he took it when he was going up the stairs.
Anna took the necklace and confirmed it was her brother's necklace and asked. "He's fine because he doesn't come with you."
"Don't worry he's resting in a safe place now." "Syrth didn't lie, though." Not telling the truth either.
Anna believed his words because she knew her brother would only take the necklace off his body if he was dead, and it would make no sense that her brother's killer came to give her the necklace.
Syrth's eyes scanned his surroundings, checking every inch of the interior and unexpectedly realized that the curtains were covering the window perfectly.
- Did you find something out? Syrth said as he stared at Anna.
Anna then hesitated at first and then pointed her sword out the window.
"I went to observe a little outside. I found out that some people were staring at the Inn all the time, especially my room.
"They are members of the Floors Union." Syrth nodded, introducing. "Two at the front door and one in the back."
"How do you know…" Anna looked at Syrth confused by his words.
- No time to explain the details. - Syrth said determined - Anna you need to trust me.
"Gather all the important things about yourself and your brother, and then leave a letter to the owner of the White Horse Inn for the rest of the pay." We will be leaving now !.
The two quickly packed things and quickly Syrth put them in his ring Anna asked what it was and he just replied that for a storage ring, the two went quietly out the back door.
In the silent alley, Syrth whispered:
- I noticed these guys earlier. These sentries send signals every half hour using a whistle like a bird of some kind, and it seems like five signals means it's all right. Unfortunately, I have nothing to mimic this whistle, so our time is quite limited.
"I don't understand what you said," Anna asked. "Where is the sentry at the back door, so where is he?"
Syrth coughed, muttering:
"There, we sewers."
