Chapter 127 - The village of the Giants (3)

Freylinda stomped through the hallways, as if she would be hunted by a pack of huge hungry wolves. Rosch was surprised that she could move so fast with such a huge body.

The tears running down her face where almost like apples falling down on top of Roschar's head. He was already drenched after a handful of tear drops.

"Wait. Fraylinda. Wait. We....", Rosch tried to say, but he saw it in her face, that she didn't even listen.

He just let her have her own moment. Right now emotions that were locked deep inside, are bursting out making her move without herself even realizing it. Rosch knew such moments. Blinded by hope, lust, rage or many others.

Freylinda was there in seconds. Her running speed wasn't out of this world, it was fast, but still not exceptional. What made her fast were her huge steps.

Freylinda didn't say anything as she bursted into the room Yvonna was doing her experiments. Yvonna watched down deep into the throat of the corpse of the Giant, as she was spooked by the breaking door, that flew of against the wall, as Freylinda bursted inside.

Yvonna almost dropped head first into the mouth, but caught herself.

She looked back at Freylind, who didn't say anything, who held Rosch between her palms with tear drops crashing down on him. All the explosive energy disappeared as soon as she was about to hear the news. Her giant body even started to shake as fear started to creep up on her.

"No... It's not ..... No... Oh God..... We.... Can't.... Be... Saved...", She thought, while her shaking got even harder. Almost uncontrollably. She wanted to cry and scream. Her fear, that manifested wide over hundred years now, made her lose energy, will and hope in an instant.

Yvonna was shocked seeing this refined and beautiful lady break so easily.

"Frey.... Freylinda don't cry. I think I know what the reason for all this is. We can easily find out if my thesis is right or wrong.", Yvonna hurriedly said. She saw Freylinda was about to hyperventilate.

The eyes of Freylinda rose open to her limits. "R... Really?... Y.... You are not joking... Right...", Freylinda said.

"Speak louder Freylinda. Even I had a hard time hearing you.", Rosch said with a smile. He somehow found it amusing, those roller-coaster like emotional waves Freylinda had right now.

But before she could say anything. Yvonne's voice sounded first.

"But to be sure of it.... We need food..... Something different than usual.... Fruits, vegetables and maybe milk products. Only if we get those things, we truly can say if my theory would be right."

Freylinda looked shocked.

"Why would she need such things?

Don't tell me they want goods... Yeah who would want nothing for saving our race? It's natural. ", Freylinda thought, while her legs gave out.

She crashed on her knees, while slamming her forehead into the ground. Rosch was held above her head, still in her palms, but like someone above her status.

" Please save my subjects. I... I.... I don't have much.... But I promise. Our loyalty will be never-ending. We will fight for you.", Frylinda said, while suppressing her tears and cries.

"No... Who do I think we are.... We are almost extincted..... How could we help them.... Our loyalty isn't worth much right now...", Frylinda thought, as her tears made a light return. She even squeezed a bit with her palms but nothing much. Rosch felt her anxieties.

" Please, Rosch. I... I... I... If you save us..... I will belong to you. As your slave. I will do anything. Just save my subjects. Please save my race. I would do anything. I... I... I.. Can't do anything. I am useless as a leader. I could only calm my subordinates down. That we had to wait and believe that somehow we may survive. We are nothing anymore...to be honest. I, myself didn't believe that we would survive.....You are probably our last chance..... Please Roschar save us and I will do as you say and never question it. My subordinates will be yours and in the future they will be a strong military, like in the older days, fighting only for you. ", Freylinda said while her tears flooded the ground.

Her face was slightly red from the blood of her forehead and the tears.

She looked upwards right at Rosch, who she still held in front of her slightly above her head.

Her face was still beautiful, as she cried. It was the kind of face that would tug on your heartstrings, when seeing pained and tearfully.

Her sobbing and mumbling almost never stopped. She was loud, which made it hard to interfere.

"Did.... Did you finish? I am so close to you and right in front of your face. My ears hurt.", Rosch said with a light smile, while holding his ears closed.

Freylinda looked shocked. She just let her emotions out and wanted to beg for help, but that she annoyed him didn't cross her mind. She was about to cry again as her face squeezed together and almost a new shout broke out of her mouth.

"D... DON'T. Let me talk first, please.", Rosch said as fast as he could, while Freylinda instantly pushed her lips together. Some tears fell down on the ground, while her cheeks puffed up.

"Firstly. I already said it. We do it for our own benefit. We want a dragons gratitude.

Secondly. Our villages are pretty far away from each other and multiple enemies are between us. Trying to help each other is pretty much impossible. The only way would be if we build an alliance, but you guys are to weak to be of help I mean.... Economically or militarily, Right?

Thirdly. Freylinda... If I did such a thing, Yvonna would beat me up. You guys are her first real patients... She worked so hard trying to save you guys.... If I said she couldn't do it because we would go empty handed, she would truly try to beat me up. So... Yvonna tell us why you need all those things. ", Rosch said, trying to sound as kindly as possible, but at the same time telling her some facts.

If their race really got saved and they felt the need to return the favor, they truly could go extinct. Even when healed they are still to few. Who would raise their children if they would die, trying to help out in one of Roschar's many wars. Rosch didn't want to have the extinction of a race on his already bloodied consciousness.

Freylinda just looked at him. She didn't know how to react. He would help them, but it sounded as if they would be a bother if they helped them and that hurt her pride. Even though they are a shadow of their former selves, at heart they were still warriors and proud. A faver has to be returned. The only reason she begged was because it was probably her last chance to save her race. She was conflicted and didn't know what to do.

As Freylinda had her mind filled with weird thoughts, Yvonne suddenly jumped down the corpse of the Giant.

"The reason I need fruits, vegetables and other food products is for you Giants. The reason you older ones are sick and younger ones dying or not being born in the first place is because of the lack of vitamins, fats, proteins and other nutrients in your diet.

The body needs multiple different nutrients to grow healthy. Grown ups can survive eating unbalanced, but children need all kinds of foods to survive. Seems like your Race is robust to have lived without a proper diet for such a long time, but it will eventually be to much some day.

The Goblins of our village had the same problem even if they are much more resilient than any other I have seen. But as soon as they ate good and different food they young ones grew strong and powerful. I think you guys have the same problem just much more severe since it was decades ago since you started only eating meat right?", Yvonna said while kneeling in front of Freylinda. She looked her into the eyes waiting for an answer.

She was mostly thinking about solving the case and didn't really follow the conversation, but now she wanted to know the answer from Freylinda. She was completely into solving her first medical case only waiting for more clues.

Freylinda looked shocked. She thought about it and was flabbergasted.

"Around 200 years ago... We started to stop going into the forest at that time. It became harder and harder, warriors died just because we needed fruits and vegetables. We changed our diet to only meat and water.... That was one last order of my mother and... We never questioned it. But now that you say it, the sicknesses started from then on. And with every year, less Giants were born and more children died or grew only two-thirds of their parents... Unbelievable... To thing an ordered which should protect us, almost extincted us. But mother said she would be back.... ", Freylinda said heart broken. Remembering her mother still hurt her.

Rosch looked at Freylinda, not pitying her, but understanding her.

" You shouldn't think how bad you are. I mean you don't have anyone helping you, right? I am the leader of my village, but if I didn't have my mother or the others, I would have probably eaten dirt, insects and other stuff the other smaller Goblins ate. I would have been nothing. It was her knowledge that formed me. Goblins didn't know so many things. Agriculture, health, schooling, military training and so on. I took experience and culture from other races to learn as fast as possible. And it worked. ", Rosch said with a brilliant smile.

Freylinda was shocked. She had thought how stupid she was but hearing him talk like that made her a bit happy. Mistakes aren't bad, as long as you learn from them. That's what she heard out of his little speech.

" Hmmmmm but it's weird.", a voice suddenly said while walking inside the room.

Everyone looked surprised, as Basarilia entered.

"Where you spying on us?", Rosch said teasingly.

Basarilia became a bit red.

"Hmmpf. It was just hard to enter, while all this crying was going on. Anyway. It's weird. The Giants where a pretty smart and a advanced culture. I can't believe they hadn't have any healer or adults that knew about sicknesses, health, war and so on.... That's really weird. You said your mother said something about coming back?", Basarilia asked on a whim.

" Basarilia ... Lately you stick you nose inside everything. Are you bored? Don't tell me you are such a gossiping female? ", Rosch asked teasingly, while Basarilia knew what he meant. She liked to know about everything lately. She was sealed for a long time and forgot so much, but after her first talk with the Giantess, she remembered something. Not much but a bit and since then she talked and listened to everything. Hoping to remember more.

Her pouting cheeks looked cute as Rosch wanted to tease her more, but they were interrupted by Freylinda.

"I... It's okay. I was pretty young when my mother and the other adults left. All of us were pretty young, we were at most adolescents. Some of us were just becoming young adults. Just finished the ritual for adulthood. When my mother decided that all the older ones would leave and search for a better place to live, we the younger ones had just to wait till they would come back and get us. But since they never returned they must have died it seemed. And our doom started to accelerate even faster. ", Freylinda said emotionless.

" And since then you guys just tried to survive, hoping they would return someday? ", Rosch said looking kindly at her. He really wanted to hug her and carry her into safety, but she was just to big. So he ended up patting her head, which surprised her but she didn't dislike it, even closing her eyes pushing her head forward against his palm.

" Basarilia, I want you and Draconia to go to the forest and bring as many fruits, vegetables and other stuff you can find. Anything edible. Can you do that for me? ", Rosch said to her, while Basarilia looked surprised.

"B... B... But I don't wanna.", Basarilia said whiningly.

"Basarilia please. You are the only one, who can do that easily. And you seem to be the one of our group, who has the least things to do at the moment.", Rosch said again, trying to tease her. She puffed her cheeks up again, but only nodded and left.

She looked one last time at the Giantess, while shaking her head.

" Waiting for them huuhh..... To me it sounds more like abandoning the younger ones. Traveling without protecting the young ones is much safer.... If it is about the survival of the race it would make sense....", Basarilia thought while leaving the room pitying Freylinda.

" W.. Wait, Zorkod should go with them. He knows the outside better than anyone. ", Freylinda suddenly said, which Rosch accepted.

" It wouldn't be bad if they knew save routes towards the forest. But Rosch why is Basarilia the best one for this job?", Yvonna asked curiously.

" Oh you never saw her power right. She can do a bit of space magic. She once transported a bunch of dead Nightwalker bodies. For her carrying food and stuff is nothing. She isn't on the terrifying level as the black robed human, but enough for nice adventures. ", Rosch said with a smile as he tried to help Freylinda up.

She was embarrassed and they talked for such a long time till she finally went silent about wanting to give something back to them.

They brought the corpses away again and buried them. Yvoona told them, that if it wasn't nutrients deficiency she would be at her wits end and they needed to get Silvana instead, solving this medical case.
