Roschar's subordinates stuffed as much boulders and rubbish, that was lying around, into the holes as possible. They needed to seal them tightly. If the wall had to many ways in, they could forget about taking this place over.
Rosch ordered all Goblin mixes to work, but his own were the ones leading. The reason was simple. Randan's factions shouldn't get together to talk. They could make plans against Rosch.
Rosch wanted them to tired to even think.
A day went by, as the first group of warriors returned, from the forest.
Roschar had to look accurately, to see what his next move would be, but to his satisfaction the ones appearing were his own warriors . It was one of Flatch's groups.
They only lost one warrior, but everyone was hurt. Seems they had to fight their way back.
"Go to my female's hospital. Everyone of you needs to be healed immediately.", Rosch said, while nodding to everyone that came back. They were shocked, but happy to be acknowledged like that by their Chiefling.
"Good, I hope the rest will be like this group. The annihilation of one group was already to much.", Rosch thought with hope.
Rosch was on the southern wall, looking into the forest. He was right besides the front gate of the village.
As he watched the edge, Gub came and he said to him," Chiefling, I did everything like we discussed it. It was easy with no one in the territories. Having evacuate everyone into our territory was a good decision."
Rosch nodded, as he pondered about something for a while.
"Gub, one more thing that could become dangerous. All those beings in our small territory can become dangerous. We need to take those that are still loyal to the other family heads out of the territory and put them away.", Rosch said drastically. If they did a bad job, a civil war could break out.
" How do you want to do that? It's impossible to separate them all in a few days. ", Gub said with concern. He didn't know if they could take this place over. One thing after the other came up.
"Gub, we have the most diverse bunch of Goblin mixes in our ranks, why don't we use that to our advantage.
Let them go under their own mixed race. They need to talk to each other. Saying stuff like, I will go under the rule of the family head, Roschar. They need to say it in areas where others will hear it. Those that will be against joining us, will be trying to convince others to stay loyal to their own family head.
Those are the beings we need to take care of. But don't kill them. I don't want to scare those that are still wavering. Take them away slowly were no one will see it. Take their valuables, cuff them and bring them together at the plaza. They will be freed if everything works out.", Roschar said calmly. Gub was surprised, but nodded. That could work. They wouldn't get all, but those who are extremely against Rosch will be filtered from the rest.
Gub started his task. This one would be hard, not because the task itself. No, it was time that was pushing him.
Another two days passed and most of Roschar's warriors came back. Most lost around 1 or 2 warriors per group, which wasn't to bad, but two entire groups were still missing, too, which was disastrous. At least his three leaders were here again. Flatch, Gerhard and Luchs were shocked after hearing it was time to take the village over, but after a while they started to smile and couldn't await it.
The preparation were going at full speed and rumors were getting louder, that Rosch already started to take control of this place. Voices that were talking bad about him disappeared and higher ranked warriors of the other faction weren't allowed to meet each other.
Everything was going into one direction and that was Roschar taking control, because of that skirmishes started to happen.
Those that felt, they would be next to "disappear" started to get anxious and rebeled, but they were separated into small groups, which wasn't a problem for Roschar's warriors to handle. Even with those little rebellions, no one was killed. They were beaten up bad and brought away alive.
Rosch stood on top of the wall again. He couldn't relax. Everything was on the brink of escalating into pure chaos.
"Fuck, how long are they staying inside the forest. Do they have a full blown war with the Elves inside the forest? My warriors heard the retreat pretty soon and came back. But Leonhard and Bog's troops, they may have been swallowed up into that mess. I hope they didn't have to many casualties. ", Rosch thought completely stressed out. He didn't sleep at all the last two days and before that he only slept a bit every day. This war was energy consuming.
But after a while Rosch heard shouts and drums. They sounded happy and victorious.
Those sounds became louder and louder, till they reached the forest edge with Randan in the front.
Randan looked closely, as he suddenly sprinted forward. The drums started to stop, too, as more and more saw the badly repaired walls.
All of them thought the worst, that the enemy took that place over.
But before all of them stormed the wall like Randan, the front gate opened up and Rosch went out.
"Finally, do you know how hard it was to fight the Nightwalkers off with those left in the village. What took you all so long?" , Rosch suddenly said proudly.
Randan was shocked and couldn't believe that the Nightwalkers attacked their village. He believed they fled, while trying to have the Elves as scapegoats.
He went inside with Rosch, while other leaders followed. They went further in and as they passed the gate the huge doors behind them closed with a bang.
Everyone turned around and looked with creased eyebrows.
"What's the meaning of this, son?", Randan said, trying to hold his rage.
"This village will get burned to the ground with your leadership. Didn't you get it, wasn't it you that reminded me almost every day of how almost the entire tribe was slaughtered in the past. Now you do the same shit again.
You reign with fear, which is pure idiocrasy. No one trusts you and the moment our village was attacked, many warriors of yours fled. This is why, from this moment on, I WILL BE CHIEF. STAY OR LEAVE, BUT BELIEVE ME, STAYING WON'T END WELL FOR YOU. ", Rosch said calmly, till almost the end of his speech, but at the end his emotions became chaotic and his Alpha aura came back up. Every family head felt the pressure. They were shocked to the core, but that shock didn't last long, as laughter could be heard.
"KUKUKUKU. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Son, you have finally got some ambitions. For the first time in your short life, I can relate to you. Hahahaha, but it was to soon. You will die, NOW.", Randan suddenly said, switching from happiness into aggression in less than a second.
But Rosch seemed to still smile, as Leonhard suddenly attacked Randan. He blocked the attack of Randan, shocking him.
" You really want to follow someone weaker? Why? ", Randan asked completely baffled. He truly wasn't capable of understanding how someone stronger was willingly serving someone weaker.
"If you have to ask, then answering has no meaning.", Leonhard said.
Both jumped back, as the attack from Leonhard was blocked.
"Father, this is the last warning. Go or die. You will lose, because those that are with you are your enemies, too. No one of those are truly loyal to you.", Rosch said, pointing at Roxer. He was trying to make signs for a while now. He didn't know if some of his subordinates outside saw them and that was why he did them over and over. But Rosch watched him from the beginning.
As everyone looked at Roxer, he started to smile.
"You guys already lost. In a few minutes many of my warriors will swarm this villa... BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMM", Roxer tried to say and finish his sentence, but could not as a deafening explosion silenced everyone.
In the direction of Roxers territory a huge smokescreen could be seen.
Nobody knew what happened, only Rosch smiled brightly.
"I hope many tried to come through your cave, I mean the secret tunnel you guys build.", Rosch said happily.
Roxer's eyes opened up wide in shock.
"You..... You.... How?", Roxer said losing his cool for the first time.
"It was Gorker's last gift before he lost consciousness. He told me something about an air flow. I needed some time till I realized how you guys could get Hobgoblins in and out of the village that easily. But now that is gone. You will...", Rosch said, but before he could end his sentence, Roxer started to run for his life. He even let all his warriors that stayed outside with the rest of Randans warriors there, without them knowing what is going on inside the village.
Rosch was surprised, because he would guess from Roxers appearance that he would try to fight with those outside, but that didn't happen. Which was his luck, now those outside wouldn't have a leader.
Rosch now looked only at Randan, Slither and Torkel. Everything was now at a point of no return. But to Roschar's surprise his father didn't go crazy.
"Rosch, like I said, it's the first time I can relate to you. Maybe that is how my father felt and made way for the next generation. Just this time you should know, that letting us go now will be your doom in the future.", Randan said as he turned around. He didn't even ask Slither or Torkel to come with him. He just went out.
Slither turned around and followed Randan instantly, he knew that death would await him if he stayed.
Torkel on the other hand looked at Rosch.
" I always follow the strongest warrior. You didn't win against your father physically, but you still won. I want that fight you promised Slither next year. Till then, I do as you ask and treat you as my Chief, since you truly have potential, but fighting now would hurt my honor. You are still a child. Do you accept the terms? ", Torkel said calmly. He seemed, as if he just doesn't want to leave his home.
Rosch looked at him and just nodded and with that anticlimactic end the war came to a stop. You could still hear some screams outside the walls. Leonhard and Bog let their warriors inside, but Randan killed all the Hobgoblins of Roxer. He seemed to let out his fury in the most aggressive way ever. The beings that were on the plaza were thrown out, too after a while. They were naked and it looked funny how they tried to run after Randan after he finished of the Hobgoblins. It seemed the Elves did a great number on them, too. His former glory was gone. The army he built reduced to a fourth of what it used to be. No probably much less.
Rosch on the other hand had much to do. With the collapsing of the tunnel inside Roxers old cave, part of the wall and some homes broke down, too. They had to be repaired much more now. Luckily no one was on that part of the wall or in the caves when the tunnel collapsed.
Everything else was slowly changed and reformed.
A month passed by since the war and they were now in the midst of fall.
The village changed much with Leonhard taking up the spaces of Randan's territory and Torkel taking Slither's territory. Rosch took Gargaschar's, which was the biggest part of the village.
Rosch had the most beings under him now, but that wasn't the only reason why he took Gargaschars territory. He wanted to make more space for cultivating crops and the foot of the mountain was the best place, because it got harder the higher up you went and that even with the help of the Elves.
Bog took half of Norbert's territory, while Rosch the other half. Bog didn't need that much, as he hadn't that much beings under him anyway. The same was with Torkel. They had both less territory because of that in the first place, in comparison to the other family heads.
With all that, the village looked as follows. The north was given to Leonhard, the south and half of the eastern parts belonged to Roschar. Bog had half the eastern territory and Torkel the western parts. With that, all wall parts were now always under the protection of their territory owner. Like that they always had sentries on all sides. Only Roschar's warriors had the right to patrol the entire wall, without asking the family head. That was to control Torkel a bit, since Rosch didn't trust him for now.
Roschar was in a building, that was just finished. It was empty right now, only the third floor, which was the highest was renovated. But nothing fancy. It was just a table with five chairs. Those chairs had the symbols of the families. Roschar's symbol was the moon that shone down on the mountain, while the other four had their mixed race and a Goblin as symbol or the race they were itself. All five chairs were occupied with Roschar, Vilcet, Leonhard, Bog and Torkel.
"From now on, this building will be the one we will have our meetings in. This will be an important building in the future, too. Just like Randan's mission hall, this buildings first floor will function in the same way. Just one difference and that is that everyone can give and take up tasks. Those that want to give tasks have to pay to the mission hall, staff members will take a bit processing fee and the rest will be the reward for those, who accomplish the mission. The second floor will have a bureaucratic function. There will be done the monthly payments of all beings that live in this village. Randan made his beings pay through the missions. I don't care how you pay. As long as you do it is fine. We had so many beings living here, who survived through eating dirt and nobody cared for them. That was stupid. We need everyone. Those that can't fight, have other qualities and that needs to be harnessed. They can work in the fields, sell stuff they build or anything they come up with. But everything is better than just using up space on our land. The last floor is this one where our meetings will take place from now on. This building is right besides the plaza in the middle of our village, hopefully booming with life soon.
...
Does someone have something to say about this system?", Rosch gave his new rules and asked what they thought about it after a while.
To his surprise nobody said anything. After a while Torkel said something, but about something else.
" First of all, I am okay with those new rules. No that is even better for us. Most of my beings are warriors and if they get paid to do stuff, than even better. There's just one thing I have a problem with. Two weeks ago you, Chief, introduced money in our village. Our own money, which is okay. I don't really care, but most of my beings are brutes, who never learned. They are bad with numbers, it would be to much to only allow money as transaction from now on. ", Torkel said concerned. But Rosch just shook his head.
" I never said that only money is allowed as transaction. Trading goods is allowed, too. I won't change that. This is a tradition and won't be changed. I just introduced money for two reasons. First, to simplify trading. It was hard to determine if meat is worth two pelts or ten. Everyone had different prices and that was confusing. With money that can be changed. And secondly in the future we may have good relationships with other tribes and nations. If that happens we can't trade with goods. What those beings want is gold, silver and bronze. That is why we need our own money. ", Rosch said, getting a satisfied nod from Torkel.
" OH and I want schools getting build in every territory. I want the children to learn the basics and than they can do whatever they want.", Rosch said getting a weird look from Leonhard, Bog and Torkel.
" I know, it will be hard. Most of us don't have anyone in their territory that could teach our children anything useful except speaking and hunting, but we have Elven, Human and other races hear. We need to learn from them, if we want to compete with the others. We always wanted to be accepted as a race, now we need to show them all that we are more than just beast. We need to show them that we can rip their throats, while being civilized.", Rosch said with a smile.
" But we won't forget our traditions that I will promise to you all. We learn more while holding up our traditions. ", Rosch said further. The others were still a bit confused. How the hell do they want to teach writing, reading and mathematics to a Goblin child was blowing their minds. They can't sit for 3 minutes at one place. But they didn't care, since they wouldn't build such a school. They just have to see how things would go. If it worked it would work and if not, Roschar was the one paying for the buildings. So nobody gave a damn.
With that the meeting was over and all went back to their territory. Only Rosch was followed by Gub.
"Rosch we have counted every being. Tomorrow you will get the report.", Gub said completely tired. He seemed to have counted weeks without rest. Rosch nodded with a smile and let Gub have some rest. But before he could leave he turned around again.
"Oh and Rosch don't forget. Tonight is the night.", Gub said with a huge smile. As both went back to their homes exhausted.
