Rosch appeared at the southern wall. His eyes were sharp, looking into the forest. But no enemy was seen.
"Why did you ring the alarm bell? I don't see anyone.", Rosch asked a Goblin Footsoldier. He was startled, but answered right away.
"Ch.. Chiefling look to the right side. The others are getting attacked already. So... So I thought we will be attacked next. S.. Sorry for ringing it to soon.", the Goblin said honestly. And Rosch was surprised. The Goblin Footsoldier didn't try to lie to him, since the better answer would have been to say he saw an enemy for a moment on the edge of the forest. Like that he wouldn't have to worry, if he was right or wrong to do so. That Goblin just now told the truth.
"No, you did good. It is good to ring alarm, if you think something doesn't seem right.", Rosch told his warrior, who smiled because of the complement. He left shortly after, leaving Rosch alone.
"This is good. If I look at the other Goblins of Gargaschar or Randan. They lie and fight each other all the time. My Goblins came a long way. I didn't speak often with them, but the reports at the beginning were still sometimes pretty brutal. Trying to kill someone over a piece of meat, lying to superiors or ditching work and military training. Now they treat each other more like friends, show loyalty and take matters more serious. They still fight sometimes, but killing is prohibited. They are still Goblins and they need some stress relief. Gorker did a pretty good job. He must have been an excellent family head. Even I wouldn't have believed that they could be changed so fastly. But it seems they just needed some acknowledgement, stable food supplies and a cave for themselves to become loyal. Treating them like animals will make them animals. That's for sure. ", Rosch thought with a huge smile. He always thought about leaving this village, only recently with his family growing faster did he think about taking over this place. He just needs to take out those that he won't be able to trust.
Rosch stood there still looking into the forest, pondering when the Nightwalkers will attack, as Gorker came up.
"Seems our plan works. Just that it would work right after our first attack last night surprises me greatly. The Nightwalkers aren't the types to get scared that easily. I would have thought that we had to use almost all our secret weapons at them for then to get scared. ",Gorker said to Rosch.
"Are you already okay? And yeah I am surprised, too.", Rosch said wondering why it was so easy.
"Yeah I am okay. Fighting is still a bit hard, but walking around is okay. If something happens, I will go back.", Gorker told Rosch, as he too started to stare into the forest.
Vilcet arrived next after hearing the alarm bell, as he heard their conversation.
"They aren't scared. They wait for an opportunity. They are only attacking Gargaschar's territory with around 40 Nightwalkers. The others are waiting at the forest edge to storm the wall of Gargaschar. They just wait for the right, an opening to storm the with all the have. Our side will have some enemies, too, but they will probably stay at the forest edge and hope that we will attack them in an open field. ", Vilcet said suddenly, sharing his military experience with those two.
" Why would we go out to attack?", Gorker suddenly asked, while he fought often and had many battles, bigger wars aren't something Goblins and he himself had till now. It was a first for him, too. The Elven Civil War was a big one, too, but the Goblins themselves were only there for a short time and it was more of a slaughter then an actual war at the end for them.
"They will probably start it in some minutes. Like yesterday. They will probably rain down spears and whatnot on us till we get impatient and come out to fight them directly. Just block everything and don't bother with them further. Now would be perfect for part two of our plan. ", Vilcet said with a smile.
Rosch and Gorker started to smile, too. They have thought that it would take them another day at least, before the Nightwalkers would give up on Roschar's southern wall. But the sooner the better. Now it was perfect and they could start the next phase of their plan, it was crucial to do it before the reinforcement arrives.
" You guys have even more plans?", Leonhard asked, as he arrived. Now almost every leader arrived, after hearing the alarm bell.
"Yes. The plan I told you yesterday was only the first step. We wanted to hit the enemy strong and brutal from the get-go and make them fear us. They should lose, as many warriors as possible and see that our wall means death. After that we hoped they would direct their attacks on Gargaschar's territory, which they did now. The reason is not only to minimize our losses. No I want the Nightwalkers to breach the wall of Gargaschars territory. ", Rosch suddenly said, shocking most of the beings present. Only Vilcet and Gorker knew of the plan.
" ARE YOU CRAZY? WHY SHOULD I LET THEM ATTACK MY FAMILY AND THE FAMILIES OF MY WARRIORS. I STARTED TO THINK XOU WERE DIFFERENT, BUT YOU ARE JUST LIKE YOUR FATHER.", Leonhard shouted out. It was deafening, but Rosch stayed relaxed.
"Just, listen. Why would I tell you my plan now? I told you the plan, because I want to give you guys time to get all important stuff, as well as all your subordinates into my territory. As you can see, I didn't build an entire wall around my territory for fun.", Rosch said sounding as if he built this wall for this purpose only, shocking Leonhard, Norbert and Bog. How long ago did he have such a maneuver in mind. He started to build the wall last year didn't he? Thought most of those present.
But in reality Rosch never thought he would need the wall to take down Randan and the rest. He always thought that Randan would attack him someday. But who says you can't use a wall to hurt your "allies" in a war, too. Rosch always had enemies on the in and outside
" As soon as they breach, the losses on both sides will rise, benefiting us the most. We need to hurt the Nightwalkers, as much as possible till the other half and the Sunshine Elves arrive, because then it will be a bloody battle. They have healers, too after their reinforcement arrives. They will probably attack us again since they have gotten new and much warriors, too. Especially the Elves have a score to settle with us directly. ", Rosch said further to the other three leaders, who were even more shocked.
" Tell me sincerely now. Do you have even more plans? Like taking over this village. Because the more you talk, the more I get the feeling you want to take this place over. ", Leonhard said. The only reason he asked was, because he felt the birth of an alpha last night. Leonhard was sure it would take some time till he wanted to conquer, but after hearing his plan, he knew his motivs already. He just wanted to hear how sincere Rosch was.
Rosch started to smile.
"You guessed right. This place isn't safe, with idiots like my father being on top. Just look at how they fight. Just throwing their weaker Goblins in masses against the Nightwalkers. If I had so many Goblins under me, I would have trained every last one of them and those that aren't good for the military have other qualities. I will give them work, that suits them. Nobody will be thrown away as useless. ", Rosch suddenly said, while the other three family heads were flabbergasted . Calling his cunning father an idiot was a hard pill to swallow. The Goblin village was the strongest it ever was under Randan's rule. He made questionable decisions, but overall the village prospered. And to that came that they would be idiots, too, because they hadn't an answer for the question of how to train, feed and giving a home to every Goblin out there, either. Those three couldn't even do that with their own territory, let alone the entire village. They are unruly, cunning and don't like to work. But looking at Roschar's territory, they have now seen that it is possible. They heard him at the meeting that the thing called brothels is a huge contribution to tame them, but it couldn't be the only thing to tame those Goblins, that's for sure.
"Good I will get my subordinates and their families hear. Let's see how far your plan will go.", Leonhard suddenly said. The other two went to their own territories and did the same.
"Can I trust Leonhard? He fought my father and wanted to become chief once, too.", Rosch thought as he looked at those three family heads leaving. But before they could leave entirely, Rosch said a bit loudly.
"Gerhard, go get the prisoners. We will start our plan right away. When you go up the mountain and than to the other side don't forget that their will be warriors of Randan. Take some subordinates with you, if some of Randan warriors needs to be taken care of do it, but only if it is the last way. We don't need to leave footprints that are leading to us. Ohhhh right and if their is loot inside Gargaschars territory, take what you want. ", Rosch ordered Gerhard. And before Gerhard could even turn around a voice sounded.
" Don't need to get subordinates. I will go with him. Even taking my strongest warriors with me. It sounds as if this step is very crucial for the plan. ", Norbert suddenly said. Rosch just nodded and turned around. And the others only looked at Norbert with a little head shake, because all already knew that he only wanted the stuff inside Gargaschars territory.
After that everyone went their way. Troops, materials, food and families started to wander into Roschar's territory. It would get crowded soon, but still, staying safe is much more important. The Nightwalkers started to throw their spears, but Roschar's alliance only defended. They wouldn't get out there in the open.
"What is going on? Till now only Leonhard and Bog's subordinates arrived. I didn't even see one human mix till now. Does Norbert want to come with one big crowd. Is he stupid? Can he be even more noticeable?", Rosch thought getting a headache.
While the fight at Gargaschars territory went on and Roschar's southern wall got attacked from a distance, Gerhard and Norbert with four of his guards went up the mountain.
They walked passed so many sentries that it would be almost impossible to get back down with the prisoners on their backs without being seen.
"Shit. Why does Randan have such a good nose? We had to build a cell so high up the mountain and on the other side to that just to make sure Randan wouldn't smell them.", Gerhard said.
Norbert was stunned. "Don't tell me they have Nightwalker prisoners? T... They want to release Nightwalkers into our territories? They are crazy. That's the only reason why they would build it so far away. All other races are present in much more numbers, which makes it impossible for Randan to smell individuals, but Nightwalkers. Those he can smell and easily guess how many are inside his village. ", Norbert thought even more stunned now.
Normally he wouldn't want to have anything to do with Nightwalker's up this close. But somehow it was just to tempting. Gargaschar was someone, who loved shiny things, too. Norbert knew he could get good stuff and went further. He just hoped that they would have tortured the Nightwalkers enough to hold them weak.
After an hour of climbing and staying out of sight, they arrived at the prison. It was a normal cave, with some guards in front. But some grunts were heard from inside. Whoever was inside sounded annoyed and bored, not weak and helpless.
"D... Did they even torture them? W. What the fuck did they do with them.", Norbert thought as he wanted to turn around and flee. He wasn't a fighter and right now he felt like he knew why. As they went inside and saw they gazes of the four Nightwalkers, who were chained tightly against the wall, he went almost unconscious. He was cunning, but not strong. Someone, who was scared of an enemy chained up can't truly become a warrior.
"Why do they still look so buff? Did you feed them with meat? Just some water and a fruit a day would be enough, don't give them meat.", Norbert said shocked, seeing those four Nightwalkers in almost perfect health. They probably fed them better than Norbert would his warriors. And the wounds the Nightwalker had were laughable. Their wills weren't broken at all.
He tried to calm down. And thought about it a bit. If they were to release them, they should at least have some energy. But having killing machines at full power wreaking havoc is to much.
"We need them that strong. We want the leaders going down the wall. Taking care of those four.", Gerhard suddenly said, seeing Norbert's uneasiness.
Norbert suddenly understood.
"Right. The goal is to get the wall breached and without leaders on the wall the enemies have an opening. They really thought it through.", Norbert thought still a bit scared. He now truly didn't want Rosch as an enemy. He didn't get the looks of his father, but the cunningness even stronger instead.
Gerhard started to tie them up. He made sure they weren't able to move at all. He then made them portable for the guards of Norbert.
" Now comes the hard part. We have to get back into the village, climbing down with that extra baggage.", Gerhard said a bit nervously. This was the hardest part.
But this time Norbert made a smug face, while he showed his white powder.
With that in mind everyone started the way down a bit easier.
