At this moment Joshua could see multiple shadows coming out of the forest. It was then that Josh knew that it had begun.
'Wolves. Though I already expected so when I heard the howls seeing them in person is still somewhat shocking.'
'They are much more fierce looking than the wolves on earth and should be bigger too, but I'm not sure as I have never seen wild wolves in person before.'
They had a feral look and a cunning glint in their eyes could be seen from the illumination of the moonlight.
If one looked across the massive field from a bird's eye view, one could see over a hundred shadows spread out surrounding the area coming from the forest.
'There are only two wolves around my vicinity.'
'It looks like the wolves had spread out across the massive field so there are not many in a concentrated area.'
'I don't know how many there are, but in the far off distance I can vaguely see an extremely large red wolf about two to three times the size of the ones moving about now.'
'He should be the leader of the pack if I'm not mistaken.'
It was then that Joshua heard the red wolf howl marking the beginning of the hunt.
"AAWWWHHHOOOOOO!!!!"
'That bastard! They see this as some kind of f***ing game! He's f***ing laughing!'
Joshua could understand what the red wolf was saying from his skill.
Even though his blood was boiling in anger he was helpless to do anything and could only lay there quietly as the night truly began.
The red wolf then started to dash off in the distance somewhere in the vast plains beyond Joshua's line of sight.
The two wolves in the area split up and started to sniff the ground trying to pick up the smell of their prey with their ears alert.
Though it is unknown if sniffing will be of any help as during the day the Yabans are all across the field so practically every patch of grass would have the smell of the Yabans.
Lady Luck is a fickle woman and it seems that she did not favor the Yabans tonight as the two wolves just happened to be going into the direction of the two groups.
'Sh*t, it's coming and Mr. Biggie looks like he is about to pounce.'
'I'm sure the same situation is happening in the second group nearby as well since the wolf over there is also closing in on them.'
The shivering next to Joshua began to increase in frequency and Josh knew he had to stop Ban or else the little thing would be found out.
Joshua could not say anything in this situation so he did what he could.
He slowly and secretly put his paw over Ban's paw as if trying to convey that everything was going to be alright.
'Thank god.'
It seems to have done the trick as the shivering had slowly come to a halt, but now the wolf had come close enough to see the big horned Yaban in the dirt.
Mr. Biggie decided to take the first action and pounced forwards the wolf jabbing it's horn into the flesh of wolf.
Unfortunately the horn was too short to do any fatal damage and would give the wolf a flesh wound at most.
Maybe if it hit a vital part the wolf might have retreated, but this time it obviously didn't as the wolf immediately retaliated by biting into the paw of Mr. Biggie.
"Auueee..."
Joshua could hear the big horned Yabans cry of pain.
'Please hang on. Just try to drive it away Mr. Biggie.'
Joshua's muscles started to tense up and Ban probably felt it, tensing up in fear as well.
The wolf and Mr. Biggie were in a stalemate with the big Yaban being at a slight advantage, but was still able to keep off the wolf.
The wolf going after the second group was also in a stalemate with both sides refusing to back down.
That was until the big Yaban of Joshua's group tripped and fell on the floor.
This can't be blamed on the big Yaban as just by looking at their species one could already tell that they were not a species made for combat at least not compared to the agile wolves.
It was just an accident, but the cunning wolf was not going to let its long awaited chance slip by.
*CHOMP!*
"AEEUUU...!"
The wolf took a brutal bite at the big Yaban's neck causing blood to spray and blow out the big Yabans candle of life.
Joshua could hear the big Yaban's last cry as it's body slump on the floor hanging from the mouth of the wolf.
A smell of blood wafted in the air.
One could clearly hear the sounds of the drips of blood dripping in the small pool of blood already starting to form under the now cold corpse of the big Yaban.
"Yip...!"
It was then that Joshua whom was thinking of the worst was brought back to reality by a soft cry next to him.
It was Ban.
The little thing couldn't help but succumbed to its fear and let out a cry.
But unfortunately Joshua wasn't the only one who heard Ban as the wolf in the second group still stuck in a stalemate with that group's big Yaban stoped and retreated.
It's eyes now lay in Joshua and Bans direction.
