Joshua seems to have realized something instantly.
'It's getting dark.'
Joshua didn't notice this earlier when he was playing with the young Yaban, but the sun would soon start to set and the night would soon begin. It made sense as he had spent most of the day traveling it was only natural that the day would be nearing its end.
'It completely slipped my mind. I need to see what the other Yabans are doing to prepare myself accordingly.'
When Joshua looked around, it was then that he saw that it was not just the little one, but all the Yabans had a look of anxiousness and seemed to be gathering into groups. Josh decided to go as well.
'As the saying goes When in Rome, do as the Romans do.'
'I guess I'll go to the group the little one is going to, at least then I will have someone(?) I know there. Though I call the little thing young, but if you look at my appearance we probably are around the same age. I refuse to be put in the same category as that cute little thing.'
'After getting together into a group with the nearby Yabans and the little one, whom I just named Ban, I notice that the other Yabans in the group are starting to get closer to each other except for one larger Yaban with a strange horn sprouting out of it's head staying outside the group waiting.'
It seems that during the day due to Joshua being so focused on his criticism of the creatures that he failed to notice that there were a few Yabans that were bigger than the rest with a small horn sprouting out of their heads.
Joshua decided that he needed to observe more to learn the situation. Looking around he could easily tell that his group had five Yabans excluding Mr. Biggie.
The other groups also seemed to be in groups of 4-8 with some having their own Mr. Biggie waiting outside separate from the group. The group closest to Joshua and Ban's group being one of the few.
The Yabans all tried to stay together and started to lay down on the ground flattening on the floor as if to hide themselves.
It was when everyone was laying down on the ground, Josh laid next to Ban, that their group's "Mr. Biggie" started to move.
The big horned Yaban went around each of the Yabans including Joshua and spread dirt and mud from the floor onto them as if to camouflage them. From this Josh surmised that there was probably predators that came out in the night.
Just the thought of the possibility of dying again just after he just gained his second lease on life sent shivers down Joshua's spine and he stayed quiet, inching slightly closer towards Ban who was quietly laying there not moving an inch.
'I see, since we are on this flat plain there isn't much places we can hide so we camouflage ourselves to hide and get through the night. Plus as I experienced earlier, this species can't really travel far they just kind of roll around in the sun. I also can't see them surviving past a day in the dense forest over there either.'
After Mr. Biggie finished hiding everyone in the group it slowly dug up a shallow dent in the ground and lay inside vigilantly watching the surrounds for any unnatural occurrences.
Now it seemed as if the life of the open field during the day was a lie. Viciously sucked out by the dark of night. No sounds except for the occasional breeze.
It was quiet.
eerily quiet.
Joshua could not help, but feel another shiver run down his spine. Keeping his head still he warrily looked around with his eyes. Joshua was feeling apprehensive at heart, but there was nothing he could do.
'Damn, there's nothing I can do for now. I think it's best I just go to sleep for now there is Mr. Biggie keeping watch anyways. I think that's what the other Yabans in the group are doing as well.'
'It'll be morning before I know it...'
Even though Joshua was still feeling apprehensive, traveling during the day had tired him out and his eyes now felt heavy. Keeping his worries to himself he slowly closed his eyes and drifted into sleep.
...
"Awwoooo!! GRrrueuu..!"
'What was that?!'
Joshua was abruptly awoken, but he stayed still. He could hear the sounds of loud howls and growling off in the distance. They seem to be coming from the forests surrounding the flat plains.
Joshua opened his eyes and searched the surroundings with his eyes. He figured that whatever was out there would not be able to see a small pair of eyes hidden in a lump of dirt covered by the tall grass.
"AWHOOOO"
There it was again, but louder. Whatever it was it was coming closer. This time Josh could feel a faint shivering next to him.
'It seems Ban is awake. Ban's just a kid so it's natural that he is scared. Poor thing, the only reason I can keep some sense of calm now is that I used to be a human adult with years of life experience instilled into me.'
'I see that Mr. Biggie is also awake, must have stayed up all night and plans to sleep during the day when the sun is out to absorb the sunlight.'
Joshua watches as their group's big horned Yaban tense up eyeing the surrounding forest ready to take action if necessary.
'Please. I pray nothing goes wrong.'
Joshua doesn't know who he was praying to as even on earth he was an atheist(someone who doesn't believe in a god), but he prays nonetheless to get through the night safely.
