Chapter 17 - Who are you?

Miss wandered around aimlessly in the empty space. How long has it been? This space of nothingness was starting to suck her sanity out. Just as she was about to succumb to the nothingness, she heard a faint crying in the distance. Desperate, she ran towards it, and finally saw someone.

The girl was sobbing, her face buried between her knees. Studying her, Miss thought she was unusual. Her clothes looked funny. She wore clothes only men would wear. She carefully approached the girl, sitting across her.

"What's wrong?" she asked her, wanting to at least keep her from crying.

The girl looked up and was surprised. "Who are you?" she asked.

"My name is Miss."

The girl looked astonished. "Miss? Why would you be here?"

"You know me?" Miss asked, puzzled. "How do you know me?"

"I dream about you a lot recently." She paused and looked down. "I'm sorry I killed Alexander."

Miss froze. A memory suddenly hit her, and she backed away. Katie stared at her in confusion.

How cruel can they be? she thought to herself. Are they not done with me?

She felt her heart ache for the girl before her. She walked to her and hugged her, muttering "I'm sorry" over and over. She woke up inside her cave, writings spread across the cave walls.

The whole village can drown, just not her. The whole world can burn to ash, just not her incarnate.

She felt a pang of guilt rise from the pit of her stomach. She had seen her incarnate... and she would suffer the same fate as her. The gods are cruel... so, so cruel. As hatred built up in her heart, she released a scream, cursing the gods. No matter how many times she had to do it, she will. Her incarnate will not suffer like her. She marched towards the beach and looked at the islands across.

"Prove yourself to me." She muttered, walking towards the water. "Prove yourself to my incarnate."

She fearlessly jumped into the deep water and started swimming until her body went numb. Slowly, she sank deeper and deeper. Just as she felt the last bubble of air escape her lungs, the water below her started rising and she was pushed to the surface.

She started shifting to the left and she soon noticed that the sea itself was parting. She felt a hand pull her from her position, dragging her to the place where the sea was parted.

She fell to the seafloor and she coughed out water. As she gasped for air, she looked up, straining to make out the tall figure before her.

"Stand, oracle." The man told her.

Her blood boiled and she stood. Almost immediately, her knees buckled and she found herself back on the ground.

"To hate us so much as to kill yourself" the man scoffed "You grew up to be so much like Amalia. Well, she did try to kill you. She pitied you."

Miss looked down. Amalia was Alexander's mother.

Amalia tried to kill me?

The man touched her head with his forefinger. Miss felt herself getting dragged through viscous water and she found herself back in Alaster's house.
