Chapter 16 - Chaos

It was chaos everywhere.

The moment she stepped into the spotlight, people dressed like waiters had lunged forward with what seemed to be pistols and started shooting the guards stationed nearby. At the same time, other waiters and waitresses began boxing in the guests, threatening all with their weapons.

People started panicking, and some started attempting to fight back with their abilities. But when they tried to activate their abilities, barely anything happened.

"HAHAHAHA!" The leader stood forward and laughed maniacally. "You idiots all drank the poison we put in the food; your abilities will not work. Surrender, and we will not hurt you… That badly at least…"

He gestured to his men, and they started moving forward, grabbing people and separating them into groups.

"I invite some of you to stay with us for a bit, we have jammed the signals here so your comms won't work, but feel free to try." He crowed with a maniacal smile while walking towards the microphone, roughly pushing Lys to the ground.

He stood on the platform, crowing about the Tomorrow Project and what they wanted to do, randomly shooting people from time to time.

Lys froze on the ground. Why was she always in dangerous situations? Were they here for her? She did just escape them a week ago, didn't she?

They didn't seem to pay that much attention to her, though, and the Leader was just happily going on and on about his organisation and their views…

She had not trained in negotiations, nor had she ever been in a hostage situation (other than last week, when she got kidnapped, but she didn't need to negotiate with anyone then). Still, she had help with translating for such situations before and knew a bit.

She knew it was best not directly to oppose the hostage-takers. They needed to feel like they were in control, that they were being heard and understood.

But she didn't know how she was to help in this situation! No one would listen to a kid, not to mention the girl that had just run away from them just last week…

She also didn't know if they were here for her or not. It was best to try and be invisible to hide from them. If she were to get their attention, this could go very, very badly.

Inching backwards, she saw that her father was bleeding from a wound on his right shoulder. Her mother and brothers had various injuries, and all had guns trained on them.

Except her.

Was it because she wasn't a threat?

Or was it because she was too young to have any abilities and the poison in the food should have disabled her?

She watched as the terrorists started randomly dragging people out. They came back from time to time but always without the hostages that they had dragged out.

Were they dead? Did the terrorist start killing already? Why were they killing people?

Oh, wait. Terrorists. Right. They just lived to kill and be killed for their cause.

One of the terrorists started wildly swinging his gun, shooting at seemingly random targets, the whole room dodging and shrieking as items started exploding left and right.

As time passed, the terrorists seemed more violent, and some even started picking out who they wanted to bring back as slaves!

The leader walked towards her mother, and, in full view of everyone, started groping and talking about himself in a lewd manner.

Another looked at her, smirked, and slowly made his way in her direction. Startled, Dean pushed her behind himself and tried to divert the terrorist's attention. He didn't think that a 12-year-old would capture the attention of the terrorist!

Annoyed, the terrorist started gesturing his gun at Dean. She was, as he figured, his prize of war. He could groom the girl with the pretty purple eyes as she grew up and make her his personal slave. That man was preventing him from claiming his own property!

Ignoring the danger presented by the gun which was pointed at him, Dean half-covered Lys with his more massive body. He acted like he did not understand what the terrorist in front of him meant, determined to protect Lys from the intentions of the evil maniac in front of them.

With his intentions thwarted by the guy in front of his target, the terrorist was angered. This girl was not just his selected slave. She was also the target the higher-ups of the Project wanted! If he could bring her back with him, he would have double the credit!

A sex slave and the gratitude of the leaders! He would get a promotion for sure!!!

Not to mention, the family had money and power. With her around, he would have access to all the networks, pieces of information and money he needed. The family wouldn't dare deny him unless they wanted their daughter to suffer.

Though she would suffer anyways... Hehehe...

With that thought, his smirk got wider as he stopped moving and trained his gun at Dean's chest.

"Move"

Dean shook his head.

"I'm not going to ask again."

Dean remained where he was, determined not to move.

Gunshots blasted through the room, as it plunged into darkness.
