I yawned as I lazily walked through the hallway of the school. It's been a week since I started school, and let's not forget the long-term argument with Michaelis last week due to my decision on insisting to live a life of a normal girl. We had fights that eventually lead me into being upset about him. The will-o-wisps even begged me to apologize at Michaelis. And I never did.
As I approached my classroom, the sound of crowds shouting, more like squealing caught my attention. What's in there? At the front, the crowd, almost all the campus' girls stood or rather blocked the doorway of our classroom. What are they doing so early in the morning? I walked nonchalantly and tried to weave my way through them. I've got through the first wave of the crowd, but the further I pushed, the stiffer it gets. I forced my way out, exerting a much stronger force and will. Suddenly, I was pushed stronger than I expected and I ended up dashing out of the crowds. I lost my balance and painfully bumped someone, causing us to fall inevitably on the floor.
Damn, that hurts.
Someone grunted below me, and I looked down to check who it was. My eyes widened at the pained expression of a man with a strikingly beautiful blonde hair, pointed nose, and red lips. Behind, the crowd gasped and murmured coherently. I stared dumbfounded as the man opened his eyes, revealing a pair of alluring emerald orbs. He's beautiful than Michaelis.
He smiled and looked at me with concern.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
Oh. My heart just skipped a beat.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked.
What was it again? Wait, let me stare at you a bit longer.
"Hey."
His deep voice reached my ears, bringing me back into my senses.
"Oh, what?" I asked dumbfoundedly.
"I said, are you okay?" He repeated.
"Oh, yes. Yes I am."
I stood up as quick as I could and tried to hid my blushed cheeks.
"I'm sorry for tripping on you," I apologized.
He slowly patted his butt off of dusts and smiled at me.
"Oh, it's okay. It's not actually your fault."
"Um, yeah. Thanks," I muttered absent-mindedly.
The whole crowd faced me with an intent expression, like I've commited some crime in front of them. I swear I can feel myself sweating so hard, as I stiffened under their stares. Crap. I think I just did something wrong. A melodious sound swapped my attention back to the man. Oh, it was his laughter.
"Don't mind them. They've been fawning over me since I got here." He said.
Oh. I can see why.
"I'm Lucas by the way. I'm new here."
So he was knew here. No wonder he didn't quite look familiar.
"Oh. I—"
I didn't get to finish my sentence when the teacher's voice boomed like megaphone, causing the crowd to distinguish, sending the students back to their places. Somehow, I feel relieved.
I headed straight into my place without glancing back to Lucas.
The teacher walked proudly towards his desk. He placed his lesson book silently and glanced at the class under his anti-ultraviolet rays glasses, before finally diverting his eyes on Lucas. He cleared his throat.
"Good morning class," he greeted.
The whole class replied a lousy greeting in return. I almost rolled my eyes at the girls in front of me, chatting and squealing as they point Lucas out. I can't believe they're that flirtatious in almost every good looking guy they find. Thinking back, I remembered how annoyed I was when I saw them eyeing Michaelis like they're stripping him naked. I swear if Michaelis ever returns here, I will surely beat him up until he would return back to the shrine. I can't let those girls fantasize on a guy like Michaelis. I mean, Michaelis is a familiar. He is an unearthly being. How could I let those girls be seduced by Michaelis?
"As all of you have seen, we have a new student," the teacher said. "Kindly introduce yourself with the class."
Lucas nodded and took a step forward.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Lucas Blackwing," he shortly said.
"Lucas, what are your hobbies?" Asked one of my classmates.
And here comes the question and answer portion by the panel of judges sitting at the front row. I sighed.
"I usually do writing." I heared Lucas replied.
I wasn't really paying much attention at the current commotion, since I'm not that desperately interested on Lucas. Just knowing his name would be enough, I guess. That's all I need, since we're classmates. Various questions went flying his way like flood. I looked at him blankly as I watched him frankly answers all those annoying questions with a smile. How could someone look so handsome with just a smile?
"What kind of a woman are you interested in, Lucas?"
My hearing felt like it heigtened at their inquiry. Wow, I didn't believe that they would truly ask that question. Where do they get those guts? After hearing the question, all the girls remained silent, except me. Well, I'm being silent from the start, so I won't categorize myself with them.
"I like Nina," he deadpan.
I almost gouge my eyes out when he forwardly said such an embarassing thing. Thanks to him, all daggers went flying my way to hit me. I unconsciously gulped an imaginary lump in my throat and glared at him. He charmingly smiled and winked at me.
"You mean, a girl like Nina? Or a girl with Nina's personality?"
"No. Just Nina alone. "
Oh god. I am seriously gonna die later. He's putting me on a hot seat. Irritation came over me, and later on, regretted having the moment to talk to him just awhile ago. I remained quite and glared at him like I'm gonna skin him alive, as the others continue to inquire such nonsense towards my offender. The teacher offered him a seat and went straight to the back of my chair. I rolled my eyes at him as he smiled at me. I clicked my tongue and focused my attention back to the teacher, who is now taking his time explaining the whole lesson.
The whole lesson went like a blur. It feels like time went so fast that I can't keep up. My whole thoughts were filled with Lucas, contrasting Michaelis. I kept on thinking about Lucas' behaviour that caused me troubles. I thought he is the kind of person with gentleness and kindness in him, but it turns out I am a poor judge of character. He's a complete troublemaker. Unlike Michaelis, he is responsible and diligent but begrudgingly strict. Well, at least Michaelis doesn't cause me trouble, just anger.
The bell rang, resonating through the hallways and knocking me out of my thoughts. It's dismissal already. I gotta be home quick or Michaelis is gonna lecture me again.
I packed my things and hastily excited the classroom. The number of glares I got while walking out of the school was infinite. I knew it. That Lucas is a trouble. Numbers of feminine glares shoot me like arrow piercing through me. Sweat started to form on my temple, and a chill ran down my spine. This is no good. I might die before I reach the shrine at this moment. I walked with haste until I've managed to drag myself out of the campus.
As I reached the foot of the legendary hundred stairs of the legendary shrine which is labeled as my home, a faint voice called me.
I turned around just in time to see Lucas walking straight towards me. My eyebrow arched.
"Stay away from me, Lucas," I warned.
"Why? I'm just being friendly," he said.
Tch. Being friendly my ass.
"I've had enough troubles for today, so could you just let me be," I said as irritation once again filled me.
I turned my back and started to ascend the stairs.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"To my house."
I didn't turned back, and just continued my daily after school mountain-climbing routine.
"Wait!"
I was shocked to the bones when he suddenly grabbed my hand, causing me to take a mistep on the cemented stair. And I suddenly found myself falling out of balance. Oh no. This is gonna hurt. I closed my eyes and waited for the cold hard ground to hit me, but something warm caught me. I opened me eyes just to see the face of Lucas looking so close to me. His arms caught upon my waist. Our faces are an inch closer to each other. Surprised, I jerked away and left a comfortable space between us.
"Are you okay?" He asked, as worry filled his eyes.
I nodded and I heard him sigh.
I remained silent as I tried to tame the wild beating of my heart. That was so close. Calm my dear heart. My heart went even more wilder when he leaned forward, bringing our faces closer to each other. I held my breath. His hand extended and reached for my hair. What is he doing? Confusion entered my system.
"Your hair clip is a mess," he said and fixed my side swayed hair clip. Heat rose to my cheeks.
"There," he mumbled and gently patted my head.
I stiffened at the gesture. What should I do? Should I shake his hand off?
Suddenly, a silhoutte appeared before him and I heard the sound of Lucas' hand being slapped away. My eyes widened and I looked up.
"Don't touch her," Michaelis hissed.
"Huh? Who are you?"
I heard Lucas inquired. I think I just saw him narrowed his eyes at Michaelis.
"Don't come near her. She's mine," Michaelis threatened, and without warning, he cupped me out and started ascending the stairs. I protested under his grip but he wouldn't budge. He kept ascending as I stared back at Lucas, slowly fading away from my view.
