"I'm Michaelis. You have my deepest gratitude for taking care of Nina,"said Michaelis.
I physically face-palmed myself after hearing him say that. I knew it that it's a bad idea having him attend school with me. I sighed as focused my attention on the refreshing scenery outside the window. I've had enough troubles. I don't care if they will glare at me because of this.
After the incident with Lucas a week ago, Michaelis has been in a foul mood. He looks like he is about to snap at me in just one wrong move. He never asked who Lucas was, the day when he took me away from Lucas. And I swear, it scared me. We came at the shrine, with me being in his arms. He was so quite and never ask me a thing. His atmosphere is almost terrifying. I also noticed how abnormally erect his ears was. It was like he's always on alert. And so, that being said, he came to me yesterday and blurted out a horrible idea. And guess what it is. He wanted to attend school. I vehemently objected on the thought, and I thought he would understand. I mean, I can't let a divine familiar roam around a place full of humans. His features aren't human at all. I bet those perky ears and numbers of white tails will surely catch some attention. But he insisted, so it lead into another fight. In the end, he still came, with me being upset about it.
I heard the voice our teacher, stating the beginning of the class. At last, they've finished interviewing my familiar. The sound of a chair being pulled back, scraped my ears. I turned and saw Michaelis sitting down with his eyes fix on me. I stared at him blankly and turned my attention back to the front. I hate those eyes of him. It feels like he can see through my soul everytime I met his eyes. It may sometimes look blank and uninterested, but it feels like it bore into me; examining me.
"You've grown into a fine woman."
My head snapped at my side. Who is it? A voice of a young man entered my mind. His voice sounds so melodious and flows like the water at ease.
"She will be so happy when she gets to meet you."
"Who's there?" I exclaimed.
"Excuse me, Miss Aihsenhart we're at the middle of the class right now," warned the teacher.
I looked back and realized that I spoke it out loud. I mumbled a sorry and slowly took a sit. He's voice sounded like he's sad. And for some unknown reasons, my heart ached.
I excused myself from the class and went into the clinic. Maybe I just need a little rest. I went inside the clinic and told the nurse about my most believeable excuse–I had a migraine. She led me to clean clinic bed and told me to let myself rest while she fetch some medicine.
Who was that voice?
I sighed.
As I was about to lay down, I heard someone shivering behind the curtain beside me. Curiously, I opened the curtain and found a familiar face. He glance back at me and his face lit up like a child who have just seen his mother.
"Nina!"
Oh no. Here comes trouble.
He gleefully jumped at me and pulled me in a tight hug.
"Let go of me, Lucas!"
"No, I will not. It's so cold here. I need you to warm me up," he said and tried to nuzzle his face at my chest.
I pushed him away just enough to prevent him on nuzzling my chest, but not enough to completely push him away. Why is he here anyway? I thought he's absent. The nurse came with her hand holding my medicine.
"Oh, are you lovers?" She asked.
Obviously no. This guy just hug the moment he saw me.
"No. Could you help me take him away from me?" I said.
"Here is your medicine, miss. I am sorry for intervening your time," she said shyly and walked away.
Wait. Are you deaf? I need help here. Take him away from me. I tried to pushed him away a little bit harder, but he didn't budge. What's wrong with this guy?
"This is sexual harassment. Let me go!" I excalimed as I continue to push him away.
"Please let me stay like this," he pleaded like a child.
Damn you, Lucas.
Suddenly, the door banged open, revealing Michaelis. My eyes widened in surprise and Lucas stared at him blankly. He looks angry. No, he looks beyond pissed. I tried to pinch Lucas at the side to tell him to let me go, but he didn't seem to feel it. I am so dead. I watched as Michaelis marched forward. Every step he take sounded so heavy to my ears.
"You ditched me for this," he said.
But I felt like he said, "You're so dead" . His face looks so angry. He went and suddenly grabbed Lucas away from me, throwing him to the wall.
"You dared touch her," he growled.
I gasped when I saw Lucas pinned on the wall. The wall was devastated and debris fell. Did he just killed him? I stood and panickly run to Lucas, when Michaelis suddenly grabbed my hand and pulled towards him; locking me in his arms.
"Michaelis, let me go. You killed him!" I shouted.
My eyes started to become blurry as I panicked. Tears started to form and I can't held it in.
"I told you, she's mine. Stay away from her. The son of a fallen god has no business with my goddess," Michaelis hissed and his arms tightened around me.
I struggled from his grip as I watched Lucas' form. He's limp and lifeless. Michaelis why do you have to do that? My mind scream. Suddenly, the whole clinic change into an empty void. Is this a portal? Who did this? I looked back at Michaelis and saw him tightened his jaw. The sound of laughter echoed through the void. I looked around and saw Lucas standing up unscratched. My eyes widened.
"But we're classmates. How can I not have any business with her?" Lucas smiled.
My mind can't seem to comprehend what's happening. Lucas is up and alive. But he acts nothing like the Lucas I know. Michaelis is holding me like he's afraid of losing something. And we're in a void I don't know who caused this to appear. They are also talking about something I know nothing about. And they seems like they know each other.
"Son of a fallen god?" I asked.
"Yes, Nina. I am a son of a fallen god." Lucas smiled, but his eyes doesn't seem to have the usual light in them.
"A fallen god are those of former gods who have fallen themselves in depravity and lived in a curse," said Michaelis and his arms left me.
I heard Lucas clicked his tongue and his face contorted into disgust.
"So stay away from him. He's after you," Michaelis warned.
"Why?" I asked.
"It's natural," said Lucas.
"Since you are a god, creatures like me are attracted to you. And yes, I want the power of a god."
Michaelis stepped forward, growling. His ears and tails appeared and his uniform morphed into his usual kimono. Before I could stop him, Michaelis dashed forward, holding a ball of flame. Lucas dodged and send a whirl of winds on his way. Michaelis slammed his flames to Lucas' right cheek, but he didn't manage to dodge Lucas' winds. He was blown away.
I don't understand this fighting at all. Why are they fighting? And I could not the see the goodness that it will cause. Anger hit me and I burst out.
"Stop it you two! Michaelis enough!"
Lucas stared at me and his winds disappear, while Michaelis froze as he raged with flames.
"Return this place to normal immediately," I commanded.
The void disappear and the whole clinic came into view. The once devastated wall where Lucas' got slammed into appeared untouched. I sighed as I saw the scratches on there faces.
"I thanked you for giving me a real migraine," I muttered and sat on the bed.
I looked at Lucas and saw how swollen his cheek was. Guilt came over me. How could I let my familiar beat him?
"Michaelis, get me some first aid kit. Lucas, come and seat here." I patted the bed beside me.
Michaelis narrowed his eyes but did my request nevertheless. Lucas hesitantly sat beside me. My familiar came as quick as a lightning back to the room, bringing with him the kit. I grabbed a ball of cotton and betadine to treat Lucas' swollen face.
"I am sorry on what Michaelis did," I muttered.
Lucas looked at me in the eye, telling me, "Are you insane? I am about to kill you. Where's your brain?" I laughed at his reaction, causing him to look so confuse.
"I'm fine, Lucas. It's not like you're trying to kill me. You just want my power. If you really wanted to kill me, you could have done so awhile ago. And besides, I don't see you as an enemy. I see you as an airhead and a pervert," I stated.
Lucas stared at me for seconds before muttering incoherent words.
"Whatever. I'm out," he snapped and went outside.
I sighed. Thank goodness it's done. Michaelisn stood in front of me, his face is calm. His ears and tails are nowhere to spot, and he's wearing his uniform instead of his kimono. I looked at him and tilted my head in confusion. Why is he looking at me? Suddenly, he dove down and hug me tightly causing me to stiffened. What the hell is he doing? My heart started to beat so loudly I swear I think he can almost hear it. Before I could mutter his name, he nuzzled my neck and the hotness of his breath fanned my skin.
"Nina," he mumbled.
I remained quite.
"You should take a bath when we go home," he said.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"You smell like him. You reeks," he said and let me go.
"Well, I am sorry. Since I don't have a sharp sense of smell, I wasn't aware," I hissed as irritation came over me.
He laughed and patted my head before walking away, urging me to follow.
Up until now, the wild beating of my heart is all I could hear.
