Gold pondered on her displeasure till darkness approached the land. She questioned inwardly what she desired most in this world. Was a part-time companion enough? That is what Sun was offering. Having him around only some of the time, when it was convenient for him seemed unfulfilling. She felt the loneliness increase during his absences. She still had not explored far into or beyond the cavern.
When the darkness settled another dimmer light source rose to take over the sky. She often glanced up and saw the contrast of a define face. After many nights of see him she finally spoke to the man in the moon of her concerns for companionship. His soft light a baritone vibration rumbled as he advised her. He advised her to seek an energy that matched her own. He added that it must resided in her current plane. If they paired was contingent on their frequencies either being able to combine or cancel. A partner that combined with her would amplify her energy would make her stronger and have more solid an existence. On the other hand a partner that canceled her energy would provide an ordinary uneventful magicless life. Without her magic she would descend to another plane with her partner and live and die as humans. "Choose carefully.", were his last words to her during that time.
She inquired, "Could it be you?"
Moon Man replied " Regrettably, no. I would only be around at night and live far beyond your stars."
Annoyed, she finally resolved to travel alone. She had been active for several days by now and found herself fatigued. She migrated deeper into the cavern, not wanting to see the moon anymore tonight. Gold determined she may need rest. She retreated deeper into the cavern, then heard a voice. The voice was new, deep and raspy vibrations filled her ears.
The voice said, "How about me?"
Gold peered though the darkness and saw a glimmer of light shining. It was the reflection off the iris of an eye. It was not the same as the fish and other aquatic creatures eyes. These eyes held energy she could feel. She tried harder to see, the action developed the keenness of her eyes. Gold interest pulled her deeper into the cave.
She playfully stated, "Must I assume whom I am speaking with?"
A loud breath of warm moist air was let out through nostrils. She could feel the temperature change in the space. Then a light white dust of glitter and dirt filled the environment near the area where the creature had been moments ago. The ground began to tremble under the weight of the moving creature. An eye that gleaned green and red became clearer to see through the darkness as the dust settled.
Gold asked, "Have you been here the whole time?"
The eye answered, "I have been here many years."
Gold exclaimed " I am fairly new to the surface, and I'm only beginning to properly explore."
Eye shared and spoke "I have swam, flown, and walked the whole globe over five thousand times plus... Then simply grew wry. I laid down here for a rest. Then heard your questioning voice wake me from my slumber... Such silliness asking Sun and Moon Man to be your companions. They are bounded to the sky and gravity. They can have no companions but the stars and the clouds." He smirked and added under his breath in a mumble," Perhaps, each other."
He paused to considered," Seeing as you are new to this realm you may not have known." His lids shaded his eyes for a second as her regarded her form up close. "Do you have a name?"
She had not thought of this before. What others should call her on the surface... Gold was her name in the core, would it be different now that she migrated?
She inquired from eye further, " I do not have one... yet. What do you think I should be called?"
The eye opened wide as if noticeable surprised. There was a hesitation, then "Gold, is that not what you are... better yet who you are?"
Gold was taken back, "How'd you know! Why not Ruby or Emerald?" She smile cheekily at the thought of potentially being mistaken for her friends.
Eye said" Because I've met them already, and Fire too. They both spoke of you."
Gold became curious. When could he have met them? And had a lot of time pasted? First more pressing matters, "And what should I call you? Who and what are you?"
The ground began to move again, dust drifted into the air again. Out from the darkness emerged a large beautiful scaled creature. His scales shined so many colors of reds and greens. The winds of his breath could be seen even in the darkness, as steam swirling circles around his nose. He stood over ten feet tall a lagoon of water. To Gold he looked magnificent.
