This time the sound was different.
The first sound I heard was soft and comforting but this sound was emotionless and cold. Regardless of the qualities of the sound, it seemed to announce that I had obtained thing called a 'skill'. As to what a skill is, I have no idea. Since these make no sense to me I ignored it and continue wiggling towards the stronger light in hopes of getting there before this cycle ends.
Failure. The cycle ended and I had only made it about a third of the way there. As the light started to fade I grew more and more tired. Before the darkness completely took over I dug my lower portion back into the cool dampness and stood my self upright before letting my consciousness fade.
When I regained consciousness I wiggled myself out again in order to make my way towards the stronger light. When I fell over again I saw before me a small black oval. This black oval seamed to shine in the light and out from its sides six appendages stuck out, three on each side. Too my amazement this shiny black oval was using these appendages to move. It would stretch forth its front appendages, followed by it's back appendages. It was moving at a suprisinf speed considering its size. If I were able to to that I should be able to make it all the way to the stronger light.
So in an attempt to mimic the shiny black oval I lifted myself onto my two larger appendages as well as the tubes on my lower portion. Lifting up and reaching forward with one of my upper appendages, I firmly stick on the cool dampness ahead of me. Next I lift the other appendage on the on the other side of my self and do the same thing next the same with the tubes on my lower portion. At first it was slow but as I got used to it I was gradually moving towards the stronger light. It still felt awkward but I was certainly moving faster than when I was wiggling.
"You have unlocked the 'Crawling Branch' of the 'Locomotion Skill'."
"You have acquired the 'Crawling' skill."
Apperantly I have acquired a new skill as well. Now that I could move faster I was able to reach the stronger light at about the same time the light was the strongest.
I firmly rooted my lower portion into the cool dampness below me and stretched out limbs, opening my green blades absorbing as much light as I could. I was right, here in the stronger light was a lot better.
In my new location I was able to collect some more information about world around me. As the light started to dim I looked to where that light was coming through and I realized that there was more light here because there were less of the green blades of the brown obstructions getting in the way. Through the gap between the green blades I saw blue. That's all there was, nothing but blue. But after looking at the blue a white came across it, but the white gradually passed leaving only the blue again.
The gap between the green blades became even more interesting as the light went away and it became dark. The blue gradually turned to orange then shifted to black. This time when the darkness came I had absorbed enough energy from being in the stranger light to maintain my consciousness a little longer and to my amazement after the blue in the gap between the green blades became black, there appeared small white-yellow points of light in the black. In fact there were even more than just white-yellow ones, there was a multitude of colorful points. Some purple some blue, even red. An uncountable amount of these light points began to cover the black, so much in fact that I'm not sure it would be appropriate to call it black anymore. These points of light weren't bright enough to give me any energy but they were quite beautiful. As I was admiring the colorful points fatigue overcame me and my consciousness drifted away.
When I regained consciousness I saw a small green tube inching towards me. The green thing, with movements much like the pink tube I had seen before, began to climb onto me. Once it reached one of my larger appendages it made its way to the end and started to wrap itself in a sticky string of some sorts and hung itself there.
What a strange little thing. I shook my appendage but the green tube, now a green shell hanging from my appendage, stuck firmly to me. Well it isn't causing any harm so I'll just leave it there.
Over the next many cycles I was able to absorb a large amount of energy and grew some more. I had become thick enough to support myself even if I didn't have my lower portion burried in the cool dampness. That is when I learned a new form of movement. Since I could now support my self, I no longer needed to crawl on my upper appendages. I could make the same movements with just my lower tube like portions. As I was practicing this movement I heard the emotionless sound again.
"You have unlocked the 'Walking Branch' of the 'Locomotion Skill' ."
"You have acquired the 'Walking (tentacles)' skill. "
Hmm, walking... Now that I've heard this sound multiple times I've come to realize what it means. They seem to be telling me what action I am taking. So this movement of traveling upright must be walking while moving using my upper appendages as well, is called crawling.
With this new form of moving, I started to wander about a bit more. Traveling through the great collection of foliage around me. I saw several different types of green blades, some wide, some thin. There were long ones and short ones and some awkwardly shaped ones. Truly a world of wonders. I saw more of the fluffy things that lived in the bowls a top the brown obstructions. They too were different in shape and color.
After many cycles of moving around, I had grown taller too now about twenty times taller than the green blades coming out of the ground, the green shell on my appendage began to shake. It had changed colors and was now a brownish red color. But as it shook I could see cracks forming and out of the cracks a winged creature emerged. At first it was all compressed and wrinkled but as it spread itself out it revealed a pair of beautiful red wings.
This confused for I had seen a green tube like creature enter that shell but now a red winged creature came out. As I looked closer to observe the creature it began to flap its wings and fluttered away.
How interesting. There is so much about this world I still need to learn.
