Chapter 7 - Playing the villain

All the mutants excluding Charles group glared at the hotheaded mutant who blurted out sensitive information, they still didn't know if Vali and the rest were trustworthy yet.

The hotheaded mutant who realized his mistake looked down in shame, he really meant no harm to his fellow mutants, it's just that Robert was a really sensitive topic right now especially to him who was extremely grateful to Robert for saving them.

Vali didn't pay any attention to the rest of the mutants as he fixed his gaze onto the hooded man. The x-men were also curious about this. Who was Robert? Vali mentioned iceman and ice powers so Robert was a mutant with ice powers?

"Ok, I can sense that none of you want to talk about this so I'll ask a different question. Have you guys killed Ross?" Vali asked with a harmless smile. By this time he already realized that the hooded man wasn't who he was looking for.

To the mutants however, his smile was unnerving. They felt even more tense when the topic shifted to general Ross, to them Ross was equivalent to a devil in human skin, he was heartless.

Under the experimentations of Ross many of the mutants in their group had died horrible deaths due to their own powers turning against them and worst of all Ross held no remorse for them at all and saw them all as lab rats, including children.

Robert was a prime example of this. Whatever Ross and his team of scientists did to Robert, it caused permanent damage to him and he was now slowly dying an agonizing death of having his own power freeze him slowly.

The hooded man warily asked Vali, "what's your relationship with Ross?"

"No relationship, it's just that I ordered my knight to kill Ross but my knight ended up dying to the hands of the iceman." Vali replied calmly.

The hooded man frowned. Knight? He tried to recall when he was still in the facility and realized something. In the hallway he recalled Roberts power going out of control when his eyes met with Ross causing his power to spike and freeze everything.

Being there at the time, the hooded man witnessed everything and saw a huge and dark figure standing behind Ross. He thought that the dark figure was protecting Ross at the time but who would've thought it was trying to kill him instead.

At that time the hooded man had no time to really analyzing anything and was more focused on getting Robert out of there safely. He also saved Ross hoping that he had some way to save Robert and the other mutants who were experimented on.

Unfortunately even after torturing Ross for a while now they still had no way to save their friends and it seemed that Ross truly had no way to save them so they could only watch as the unlucky few who had drastic reactions to the experimentation died.

"Is that true? Then why are you looking for Robert? Are you looking for revenge against him because he killed your knight?" The hooded man asked cautiously.

Vali shook his head then chuckled, "relax I have no grudge against your friend only curious on how he killed my knight. Not just anyone can kill my knight so your friend must be incredibly powerful."

The hooded man became even more cautious than before, the man before him was dangerous. To him Vali was the type who was cold hearted judging by how he was so unfeeling to the death of one of his own.

Seeing the hooded mans reaction, Vali saw though him and understood why he had such a reaction.

Vali smirked and decided to have a little fun, "you must think I'm a pretty cold hearted person right? Well you're right, I honestly don't care if any of my knights die. To me they're all replaceable, in fact they should all be honored to die for my sake!"

Everyone's face sank when they heard the cold words being spewed from Vali's mouth. Right now Vali truly looked villainous to everyone including the x-men who came along with them.

In the back, Logan who had been quiet the entire time since they left the school finally said something, "tch, I knew that bastard was no good guess he's finally showing his true colors!"

Jean had a complicated expression on her face while Scott looked disappointed in Vali. Charles on the other hand didn't show much of a reaction, he wasn't sure if Vali was joking or not.

He had kept an eye on Vali for weeks now and he has seen many different versions of Vali and because of this he was hard to read but one thing he was definitely sure about was that Vali wasn't cold hearted, his care for the children in the school was real especially towards Flint.

Seeing the various reactions of everyone around him, Vali was amused. An ungrateful or heartless person who betrayed their friends and family was indeed scorned by any and everyone even by those who are of the same kind.

"Hahaha! I'm just joking, why so serious? Let's put a smile on those faces." Vali was enjoying this quite a fair bit but he figured he should stop here or he might not ever be able to reverse their repulsion towards himself.

"Actually, your friend Robert never really killed my knight neither could he actually really kill him. It's impossible to kill my knight unless he can kill me himself." Vali explained.

The hooded man on the other hand felt that Vali was lying, he clearly saw that the dark figure was impaled by a huge shard of ice before he fled. To him Vali was obviously trying to pass off his previous words as a joke after having regretted saying them.

"Impossible! I saw your knight die!" The hooded man refused to believe Vali.

Vali knew there was no other way to convince everyone unless he showed off a little bit of his powers so he summoned back hulk v2 from the facility then had him make a dramatic appearance by having him slowly form behind himself from his shadow.

"Let me introduce my first knight, I call him hulk v2 and I can assure you he's the one you met at the facility." Vali explained.

He then turned around and reached out his hand. Hulk v2 understood what his master wanted to do so he immediately knelt down on one knee and lowered his head so that his head met Vali's hand.

Everyone but Charles was surprised and felt fear seeing the dark figure that formed behind Vali. The unknown group of mutants all got in a readily position to fight if Vali made any move that would jeopardize any of their safety.

Unexpectedly, when Vali turned and placed his hand on hulk v2 they all thought that he was just trying to show that hulk v2 was completely loyal but what they didn't see coming was Vali suddenly clenching his hand.

The monster they all had fear for had its entire head destroyed causing its entire body to fall apart. Vali killed it, he killed his own knight causing everyone to become confused, why would he kill one of his own for no reason?

While they were still in a state of shock, Vali continued talking, "as you can see I killed him just like how your friend killed him but you see no matter how much anyone kills him..."

Vali took a long pause then summoned hulk v2 again, "he'll always come back good as new so no, it's not impossible, your friend never really killed my knight."

The whole room went silent, what they witnessed was incredible. It wasn't anything like Wolverines healing factor that made it almost impossible to kill him, no, this was literally resurrection, the shadow really did die and was brought back to life.

The x-men were amazed by Vali's power and so were the other mutants, the power to resurrect the dead would be coveted by anyone especially to those who lost a loved one.

Unfortunately they all misunderstood Vali's power and thought his power was resurrection and in truth they were somewhat right but what they didn't understand was that his power of resurrection and his shadow knights all came in one package.

You couldn't have one without the other meaning he couldn't truly resurrect anyone unless they became his loyal knights. Everyone there thought his knight and his resurrection power were separate.

"You can resurrect the dead?" The hooded man asked hopefully.

Vali saw the hopeful look in his eyes and disappointedly shook his head, "in a way yes but whoever I resurrect will never be the same again."

After he said that, Vali pointed to hulk v2 behind him, "he's the result of my power, you can think of me as a special kind of necromancer... I hold power over the dead but I can't bring them back from the afterlife."

Vali immediately shut down any hopes of all the mutant there. Maybe he could truly bring back the dead in the future if he became powerful enough but right now he held no power over death herself.

After Vali's display, a bit of the mutants doubts were cleared and they trusted him a bit more thinking he was a fellow mutant just like them, how else could they explain his powers?

The hooded man was still a little skeptical and cautious around Vali though. When Vali was explaining his abilities one part of it really caught his attention and he looked at hulk v2 quietly standing behind Vali.

"So he's a dead person you've resurrected?" The hooded man warily asked.

Vali smiled and answered, "yes, he used to be a very bad person and now I'm allowing him to make up for his crimes by serving me and doing some good for the world."

Looking at Vali, the hooded man didn't feel like he was lying but the fact that Vali had complete control over the dead was unsettling for him, it was unsettling for everyone.

"Forget me now, let's talk about your friend now, can we?" Vali asked.
