Chereads / It Can Only Be You / Chapter 23 - Meeting Godfather

Chapter 23 - Meeting Godfather

Till now he never thought about this day to come. For four years he was continuously trying to get Nora and Krish back to their destined place.

But only today was he able to picture or see his success. All this time, he never saw Nora in pictures or personally. Although he always acted cold towards Nora, but only his heart knows how much he is worth Nora as his Goddaughter.

Like her parents, he wanted to cherish her and pamper her too. Like her dad, he wanted to protect her too. But at the end of the day, when everyone has to go back to their family, she is bound to be alone.

While making decisions for her life or for the company, she can not trust anyone. Her decision must not be influenced by anyone.

Once she is capable enough to make her own decision, she will also be able to judge right from wrong. She would choose her own trusted people.

Those people would stick with her not because she is Steave's daughter or because her Godfather is Karan Gill. But because she is Nora Steave, who is worthy of their trust and also someone to be feared off.

He didn't want to force himself on her as her Godfather. He wants her to believe in him when she has the capability of judgement. Not when she is vulnerable and has no one to rely on anyway.

But now things are a little different. He had noticed the change Nora had in these years by her achievements.

He had a talk with Mr. Jonathan. What he got to know about Nora was unbelievable. Her achievements were par compared to any child at her age.

Her knowledge in the business world, not just shocked Jonathan, but also Karan Gill. He would not have taken this measure to call back Nora if it wasn't an emergency.

Since last year, NK's employees, board members, Shareholders, and other companies have started recognizing him, Karan Gill, as the CEO of NK. Whereas Ryan is the heir of NK Enterprises.

This disturbed him a lot. He didn't want anyone to take away what is rightfully owned by Nora. As Nora already showed such inexplicable potential to the other companies abroad. He wanted her to come back and show her regular presence in the company and also her proficiency with the directors in the company.

The sooner they recognize Nora's ability, the better the result would be. Even if she takes another five years to join her company, he wants her to show her existence as a heiress now and then.

He felt very proud and delighted when he had a talk with Mr. Jonathan. He is proud of his son too, but Nora as being an orphan, achieved something which his own son couldn't at her age.

Him being this proud has an inevitable reason behind it. She deserves everything best. However, to their unfortunate luck, Nora didn't want anything.

From day one, she only asked him to take everything away from her. All she wants to have is a normal and safe life. And she is very adamant to achieve all that for herself and for her brother.

But he is also adamant to bring her back to true place. And once she is here, he won't let her go away.

When the door opened he was patiently waiting for her. Seeing Carter after so many years, he was elated. However seeing Nora walking in, without looking at his side, taking her seat on the couch, made him euphoric and sad at the same time.

Carter greeted him, but Nora didn't even look up to him. He knows the distance he has from Nora is too big to ignore in just a minute. Understanding her mentality and awkwardness, he said nothing against her.

Closing the file on his desktop, he stood up and walked to the single couch. Taking his seat on it, he called his secretary to bring refreshment for her.

"It's been very long, isn't it Mr. Carter?" Karan asked with a polite smile.

"It definitely is Mr. Gill."

"You have got a lot of grey hair, not to mention."

"Well handling Krish is evident."

"Won't deny. I had heard about him too. That brat is really a handful."

"Yeah… You will never get bored."

Both Carter and Karan exchanged their pleasantries happily. While Nora kept quiet for all time.

Hearing Karan's voice this close to her, her palm started sweating with nervousness. While Carter and Karan talked, their drinks and snacks also came.

Secretary served their tea to their hand directly. As he extended his hands towards Nora to take her cup, she didn't move.

"Amm...Miss?"

"..."

The Secretary felt awkward when Nora didn't act upon his call. Pursing his lips he called her again. "Miss?"

"..."

Both the elderly man got confused by her behaviour. However, the next second, Karan saw through her nervousness. He again felt regretful seeing her in such a situation around him.

'Am I so scary to her? Or am I too much of a stranger to her?' He thought to himself.

Coughing lightly, he called her name considerately. "Nora?"

Nora abruptly looked up with alarmed eyes. "Yes!"

She looked right and left to know who called her. Carter, sitting beside her, felt bad for her too. Placing his palm on the back of her hand he gently said. "Take your tea. He is waiting."

Nora's widened eyes got relaxed by the view of the secretary serving her. Exhaling lightly, she nodded in a thank you and took the saucer from his hand.

"Are you alright?" Carter asked worriedly.

Nora gave a forceful smile and shook her head in nonchalance. "Yeah. All good. Can we talk about work first?" She asked.

"Nora?" Before Carter could say anything to Nora, Karan called her name again.

"Look at me." He said.

Her brows squinted as she gave a stern look at Carter with inexplicable feeling. Cater smoothly looked away and ignored her. He was little confused by Nora's behaviour. He understands that Nora doesn't like to talk to strangers, but this time something was different. Her behaviour towards Karan was different. He just couldn't pin point it.

Nora closed her eyes with helplessness. She didn't want to look at Karan for now, however, she didn't want to look childish in front of him either. Giving a low sigh she turned and finally faced him.

Looking straight to the middle-aged man, sitting on the main single couch, she politely smiled and bowed in respect. "Nice to meet you, Mr. Gill."
