Chapter 24 - Proud moment

"..." Karan forgot to reply.

Even though he had seen her growing through pictures. But looking at her directly after so many years, makes everything change. She is an all grown up girl.

For a second he loses control of himself and almost cried in happiness. Her face structure was neither all matured, nor was it childlike innocence. She looked all cute to him.

Years ago she was too young for him to distinguish her. However now, he can easily see her mothers face in hers. What excited him the most was her confidence. Which was so alike her father. She is a ditto of their character.

Even staring at him this arrogantly, she didn't look scared at all. However he saw her hesitating a lot. He just couldn't pinpoint the reason behind it.

Her gaze looked very strong, but only she knew how hard it was for her to maintain that aura for herself. If Karan had looked down to her hand he could have seen her hands trembling a little bit, which she was trying hard to stop by holding it with her other palm.

She wasn't scared, but she was more worried about her first impression in front of him. No matter what, Karan is her late dad's close friend.

Since her young days, her dad always told her how to trust Karan for everything after him. After years she didn't want to disappoint him.

She wanted to show him how independent she has become. She wanted to show how she is standing alone as he had said to her years ago. She doesn't want to look weak for a second even. She is strong and she wants him to know it.

Nodding his head a little in affirmation to everything he rang the bell for the secretary.

Once the secretary came, he ordered him to bring the documents he asked to prepare.

Nora and Carter both patiently waited for him to come back. While they both, Carter and Nora, avoided each other's eye contact, Karan on the other hand, tried to get Nora's attention.

Slightly bending forward he asked. "How have you been?"

"Nice." She politely replied.

"Your school?"

"Completed."

"Results?"

"About to come."

Their conversations were one word. Carter felt his migraine coming back. Both wooden blocks were nowhere helping in reducing the awkwardness between them.

One asked and another answered, and that's it. They both were expecting nothing more from each other. Rolling his eyes he was about to say something when Karan's secretary came in after a knock.

"Sir. The first file is the copy of the contract which was presented by Rahul Steave in the court. The second one contains those documents which we need to produce later. And the third one is the result of what we have done on Rahul Steave and on his lawyer. Please read and let me know if you need anything more."

"Hmm. You can go." Karan nodded in recognition.

His secretary gave a polite bow and also a happy smile before leaving the office room.

Karan unhurriedly opened all those documents one by one. After reading it once, he passed the file to Nora, for her to read it too.

Nora wasn't as good as him nor was she fast enough like him. However she was experienced in reading contracts and government files. One by one she read all those papers.

Karan stared at her shamelessly. He discerns all her gazes second by second. He was all surprised and impressed by her way, speed and the ambience around her.

Although she wasn't experienced like any other businessmen, but, she was very swift with her movements. Her whole aura and posture changed from awkwardness to seriousness the moment she started reading.

The more she read the more she was getting angry. She was good at hiding her emotions but Karan could really see her anger at least.

Slamming the papers back on the table, she asked. "This isn't fake."

"I know."

"Then how? This is impossible for it to be real then."

"I know that too."

"Mr. Gill?" Nora frustradely asked.

The papers given by Rahul are definitely not fake. From signature to paper, everything was real. But how? The real contract papers have been on her name since birth. And after her parents, it only and only comes to her possession.

There is no way that her father would actually give everything that he worked hard for to his brother, who hated them all his life. The one who plotted and plotted everything against her family.

However, how can the documents lie?

"When I used to work with your father, your father for an emergency always left a few blank papers with his signature given, but only in my hand. I have saved those papers till today."

"However, a few of them were missing when I checked them a few days ago. I called for an investigation, but within a week I got a court notice and I knew what must have happened."

"They stole it."

"Hmm."

"How? I am sure it can't be this easy."

"We are still investigating that. We don't have the answer yet."

"...Isn't your security too bad Mr. Gill? How am i gonna feel safe if this is what you have got for my brother."

Nora didn't try to butter up her questions. Their relationship is one thing and mistakes like this in professional life are different. She understands that he is only working for her because of her father but the mistake is too big to be ignored.

With those papers it's only for their benefit that Rahul Steave only asked for the mansion and not something else. With those signed papers anything could have happened.

Where Nora was getting angry, there Karan was very happy. He badly wanted to smile. He was very proud to see her talking to him that way. The way she spoke, she not just sounded like her father but also like a boss.

All her awkwardness flew away once she started talking. She was confident of her capabilities and knew what she expected from someone else's proficiency.

"Hmm. We are wrong." Karan gladly accepted it.
