Chapter 9 - I'm Your What?

Lilia barely registered the gesture. Her eyes were glossed over. She simply focused on breathing. She didn't know how long she lay on the ground but finally she felt closer to normal. She still didn't move.

There was a slight cracking sound that caught her attention. She wanted to look but she was completely out of energy. Ezer was there. He would warn her if it was serious.

Ezer tensed up and Lilia turned to see.

A small shadow was darting back and forth between the trees.

"What is that?" Lilia asked.

Ezer's face frowned. "It seemed that this serpent may have swallowed some celestial being to cultivate."

"Celestial being? Is that dangerous?"

"It depends."

Lilia scrambled up and Ezer rose. She didn't think she was ready for anymore fights and running around.

A flash of white zoomed towards her on the forest floor. Before she could jump out of the way, Ezer quickly snatched it up.

Whatever it was, Lilia could hardly tell. It was vibrating at a speed so fast, Ezer seemed to struggle keeping it within his grasp.

It bounced out of his hands and onto ground before clasping around Lilia's shin.

Lilia raised her foot ready to shake whatever "it" was off but paused. A pair of teary, big dark eyes stared up at her. It was enough to make her second guess.

It looked strangely human but at the same time, not. It was saying something that Lilia couldn't understand in a quiet tone.

Ezer drew blue flames in his palm. As far as he was concerned the shouldn't be a living celestial on this continent.

Ha.. Aaaaaahhhhh

The humanoid saw the flames and let out a high pitched shriek that could burst her ear drums. He scrambled to hide behind Lilia.

"Mamamamamama…" He began to repeat over and over again.

Lilia saw the flames and took a step back from Ezer.

"Just hold on. What are you doing?"

"It's a demon." Ezer was ready to aim.

"I'm still standing here!"

"This flame won't harm you."

"Ezer wait! Didn't you say just now you sensed celestial energy?"

"Lilia celestial haven't been on this continent for eons. Demons have a trick where they mask themselves with celestial energy." His voice was cold.

Hearing that Lilia paused. She didn't think the heavens could give her anymore bad luck for the day.

Sniff. Sniff. "I'm not a demon mommy." A small voice spoke with indignation.

Lilia was a little surprised to hear the voice. She turned her upper body to look at the humanoid stuck firmly halfway up her thigh.

He speaks.

Lilia pulled him off her and held him up. He was in his birthday suit. He looked like he could barely be three years old. His hair fell in soft loose waves down his shoulder. It was mostly black with a few silver streaks. But that was hardly the weirdest thing about him. Attached to his back was a set of silvery gossamer wings with silver claw-like structures on the four corners. Silver short fur covered his spine and his legs. The toes on his feet were replaced by silver claws. Her eyes returned to his face. He was extremely adorable. His eyes held the joy only an innocent baby could have. He definitely was no by the book demon. A sprite maybe? In fact he looked like someone she'd met recently.

"Ezer, I think he looks like you. Maybe it's your child. "

"That's impossible. I don't exist in this world." Ezer retracted his flames.

What did that even mean? Hr didn't exist here. She was clearly speaking to him. Lilia shook her head. She'd ask him later.

"Little baby, what's your name?" Lilia asked.

"Yan."

"Where did you come from?"

Yan thought about his words before speaking, "Well, from what I remember, I was hibernating in a Three Divine Lotus fruit when that snake swallowed me up. Since then I have been living in his stomach until mommy came to rescue me."

Ummm… She wasn't his mother. Send come to think of it,  this was the second time he was addressing her as such. It made her mind float back to her own child…

"Mommy are you upset?" Yan asked. Hearing him say it again sent shivers down her spine.

"Why do you keep addressing me as your mother?"

"Because you are my mommy. You carried me and sealed me in the Three Divine Lotus to cultivate. I wanted my spirit to follow you but I lost you but then you came back. Don't you remember?"

Lilia stared at him. She wasn't sure what to say. She didn't want to lie to him but she also didn't want to break his heart. This was clearly a bad case of imprinting. As far as Lilia could tell, the original host  never had any children. The original her would have to have been at least twelve to have a child this big.

Yan's mother must have been some type of fairy and was more than likely dead by now. To think that made her sad.

Her maternal feelings stirred. She would have taken him in but she just arrived in this world and she was almost certain she was homeless. She couldn't deal with another responsibility.

"Let me see him," Ezer suddenly spoke.  Lilia looked at Ezer. For some reason she thought he was reading her mind but then remembered he almost tried to turn the baby into bacon.

"I won't kill him."

Yes now she was "very" reassured with that tone.

Yan looked at Lilia with pleading  eyes. Please don't hand me to the devil. He'll kill me.

To bad Lilia couldn't hear his mental pleas. She gave Ezer a warning look before handing over Yan.

Yan began to fuss but this time Ezer was more prepared. Lilia winched at the way he manhandled the baby. Yan fused.

"Stay still." Ezer's command was sharp.

Ezer's eyes began to glow a cerulean blue. Yan stopped fussing and so his eyes began to glow silver.

There was stillness. Lilia regarded them curiously. She wondered what Ezer was and the extent of his powers. He brought her back from the dead. That should be a power reserved for a god right?

The glow of their eyes disappeared and Yan became a little more relaxed. Ezer held a serious expression.

"Harmless and useless," Ezer handed Yan back to her.

Yan tightly hugged Lilia's neck.

"I'm not useless! I have something very special for my mommy. She told me to hold onto it no matter what. Look."

Yan held out one empty palm. Ezer and Lilia looked at it. For a while nothing appeared then suddenly there was a silver ring.
