Simon was strolling in the hall way, while thinking about the conversation he earlier had with chief; lost in thoughts when he heard Jake, who was arguing with a guy in the black suit. Simon increased his pace and asked from afar, "What's the matter Jake? What's all this ruckus?"
Jake looked to his left and saw Simon. "You are back sir!" Simon nodded. Jake noticed something was amiss with Simon so he suddenly asked, "Are you alright sir?"
"Yeah. I am good. Why'd you ask?", Simon raised his one brow. "I don't know how to say this but you look really exhausted right now." replied Jake.
"You must be day dreaming Jake—I am perfectly fine…", Simon turned towards the guy in black suit and asked, "now what's the deal with these guys?"
"Oh! these are White family's personal guards. A moment ago, I was just trying to make my way in to see the kid but they wouldn't let me."
"Who would let an idiot like you in at a time like this?", Simon shook his head helplessly. Jake averted his eyes in embarrassment. "Guys like you and me have no power or influence over people like them. If they wouldn't let you in, then just they wouldn't let you in, simple!" Simon glanced at Jake, "What's the use of getting impatient? Just relax and wait until things cool down a bit. Alright?"
"I understand sir." said Jake. He pondered for a moment and asked, "Oh! I forgot to ask. How did it go with the chief?"
"…Never mind that…Did the child regain consciousness?", asked Simon while skipping the topic. Jake looked at Simon with bewilderment, "Why the hell are we here—sir?"
"…o-okay", Simon blurred out words.
'I knew it! Things didn't work out the between chief and him this time!', Jake thought while looking at Simon.
At the same time in the hallway.
Step! Step!
Simon and Jake, both looked behind, in the hall way another group of men wearing black suits surrounding two women. One was dressed in black. She looked old enough to be in her mid-fifties while holding a purse in her hands. Some of her hairs on her head were already grey but, regardless of her age, she still looked elegant. While the other one was a gorgeous brunette, who was also dressed in a black suit. She was holding a black bag in her hand. Simon detected the sight of old lady and grabbed Jake and moved back towards the wall.
Jake noticed the beautiful pair of ladies and threw a question towards Simon; who was also staring at the ladies. "Sir, are they Guryons?"
"Yes! They are indeed the Guryons…and the older one is the current Mistress of the family!", replied Simon. Jake raised his brows and nodded a few times, "Oh…I see."
When the group reached the door, the head guard in black stepped forward and ordered to the man who was guarding the door," Step aside! Our Mistress wishes to see her grand-son."
"Hold it!", the other man raised his hand and replied. He asked for the permission from his headset. After a moment, "Okay, only mistress and her attendant can enter", the man said and moved aside. The head guard looked back at the old lady; the old lady nodded in response. The head guard moved aside and two women entered the room while the guards stayed behind.
In the room, the old lady saw three individuals were standing around the bed a couple and a female nurse. Her eyes laid on the little boy who was sitting on the bed. The nurse was standing beside the bed. The head of the boy was covered with bandage and a side of his face was covered with band-aids. His gaze was directed downward.
The old lady stepped forward; her gaze was fixed on the child, who she wanted to see for a long time. She stood before the bed when a voice came from behind her, "Mistress of the Guryon family Jennifer Guryon, or should I say—my mother-in-law." This voice belonged to a man who was same age as Jake, six feet tall and blond. He was wearing white suit and white shoes and emitted a vibe of nobility. He was the current heir of the White family Lucas White.
Jennifer knew the owner of the voice, she turned around and glared at the man. Behind him was standing a beautiful lady. She looked around the same age as Lucas. She was blond and dressed in black, holding a white purse in her hands. Her eye met with Jennifer. "Nice to meet you", she greeted.
Jennifer didn't reply and faced her grand-son, "I came here to take my grand-son home."
"Oh! Not even a greeting. So cold! …Anyways—It's time for us to leave. Let's go honey!" He grabbed the hand of the lady behind her, "Good-bye mother-in-law." With that said the duo left the room.
Jennifer didn't even bother to look back. "Leave us alone for a moment.", Jennifer said to the female nurse who was standing beside the bed. The nurse slightly nodded and left immediately. There was an awkward silence in the room. Leonardo was stealing glances at the both ladies.
Noticing his behavior, Jennifer sat on the stool beside the bed and stared intently at her grand-son for a moment. She closed her moistened eyes and sighed inwardly, 'He's grown so much since I last saw him and resembles her mother so much.' She opened her eyes and asked softly, "Hi Leonardo! do you remember me?"
Jennifer noticed that Leonardo was a bit nervous to answer so she said softly, "I am your grand-mother, Jennifer Guryon!"
Leonardo who just lost his mother, was so young to understand anything at all. He didn't respond in the slightest. He was still gazing downward. After regaining consciousness, he was looking for his mother who was nowhere to be found; he wanted to ask about her but the presence of strangers couldn't let him. But after learning that Jennifer was his grandmother, he felt a bit relieved, so he gathered his courage and asked in his cute voice, "…w-where is m-my mommy?"
Silence took over the room. Jennifer's pupils dilated with sorrow. This innocent question filled her eyes with tears. Her lips trembled. She bit her lowered lips and suppressed her tears from gushing out because at this moment her grand-son was staring at her with his innocent deep blue turquoise eyes.
Jennifer directed her gaze downwards because she wasn't able to answer such a question. She controlled herself to regain composure because she was having difficulty in speaking.
Jennifer overcame her emotions with great difficulty and replied with a forced smile, "Ahem! W-well your m-mom—–y-your m-mom——Ahem! Y-your mom went out for a walk because she was feeling sick." She leaned forward and gently grabbed Leonardo's little hand and smiled, "…s-she told me to take good care…..of her good son…..Leonardo before leaving." And kissed his hand and kept smiling.
"When is she coming back?", without a delay, Leonardo asked another question which dropped like another grief bomb on Jennifer. Her nose became red and tears she suppressed with utmost difficulty came pouring out.
Thud!
The purse she was holding dropped on the floor. She lowered herself and picked the purse from the floor and wiped her tears in a hurry so that Leonardo couldn't notice her actions. She sniffed and lifted her head and said with a forced smile, "…s-she'll be b-back—after a while."
The brunette in the corner covered her mouth, while tears rolled down on her cheeks. It was really hard for her to witness the Mistress of the Guryon family crying like that after losing her only daughter. Leonardo shifted his gaze on to his legs. "Mommy never leaves me alone when I am sick.", Leonardo said while looking down.
Hearing what the boy just said Jennifer noticed a sad look on his face. "…y-you'll see her soon sweety!", said Jennifer while wiping off the tears consistently. After a pause she asked, "…c-can you wait for her?"
"Okay." Leonardo nodded. "But I won't forgive her", he added.
Jennifer's expression changed and wrinkles appeared on her forehead. She asked in confusion, "W-why is that honey?"
"I am not telling you." Leonardo refused to tell the reason.
"Why?", Jennifer asked with concern.
"Because I am not supposed to talk in front of strangers." Leonardo replied in a low tone. Even though Jennifer told him already that she was his grandmother but it was hard to convince him at a time like that when his mother was not around.
Jennifer paid attention and said, "Oh! I see! I see!" she nodded twice. "Okay~ fair enough." She opened her purse and grabbed her cell phone. After a moment Jennifer handed her phone to Leonardo. "Here, look! This is your mommy and me." Jennifer pointed at the picture on the screen.
Leonardo held her phone and stared the screen and cried out loud in excitement, "It's mommy!"
Seeing his reaction, a sad smile appeared on Jennifer's face. Leonardo looked at Jennifer with confusion, "Is that you with my mommy?"
"Who else it'd be? Of course, it is me!", Jennifer replied softly.
"Okay", Leonardo said and lowered his head down.
"See? I am not a stranger. Like I told you before that I am your grand-mother", said Jennifer with a smile. "So why don't you tell me about not forgiving your mommy for leaving you?", Jennifer asked with concern.
Leonardo shook his head. Jennifer asked in confusion, "Why not?"
"Because, there is still a stranger in the room, that is why", Leonardo replied while stealing glances at the young lady behind Jennifer.
Jennifer looked at her attendant in surprise and agreed, "Oh yes! Yes! You are right!" She turned towards her grand-son and asked, "If she leaves will you tell me then?"
"…", Leonardo nodded. Jennifer faced the brunette helplessly and requested, "Please leave us alone for a moment." The brunette accepted and left the room.
"Okay sweety nobody's here except for the both of us", Jennifer said as she sat on the bed besides Leonardo. "Now tell me does your head hurt?", she asked with concern.
"It still hurts! I feel dizzy when I talk", Leonardo complained in his cute voice. "Sigh! Oh Leonardo!", Jennifer said weakly. She leaned forward and touched his cheek gently. Leonardo looked at her and gave her a cute smile. "Why are you smiling?", Jennifer asked in confusion. Leonardo giggled in response and shook his head.
The reason why he smiled at Jennifer; was that she resembled his late mother so much, he felt like he was actually talking to his mother.
Looking at this cheerful sight of the boy, Jennifer forgot all her grief for a moment. She asked again with a gentle smile, "Why are you smiling sweetheart?"
He giggled again but in next moment his smile disappear and his face transformed into a pained expression. "Ow!", he cried out softly and put his right hand on the right side of his head.
Looking at her grand-son in pain, Jennifer became more concerned and asked gently, "What happened dear?" she put her hand over Leonardo's and inquired, "Does it still hurt?"
Leonardo slightly nodded with his tightly closed eyes. "It's going to be alright." Jennifer remarked and showcased a forceful smile. Seeing her grandson in pain made Jennifer to feel an eerie feeling in her heart like hundreds of needles poking her heart. She gently hugged Leonardo from aside and said softly, "It's alright. It's going to be alright." While tears ran down her eyes.
