Chapter 1 - Blind Love

The broadcast was on. All cameras from the media turned to take a good shot of the next king, on his 18th birthday. Today was a special day, anyone who was deemed worthier than the commoners were present, to take a snippet of the next king. I stared at the curtains, where the prince is supposed to enter, waiting for the event that was yet to happen. I wasn't there. No, I was behind the screen waiting for the next ruler to determine our lives.

Today was a day where the next ruler was announced, where people knew who to shoe-lick to have a good life in the future, where the commoners would cry or scream in joy.

Everyone knew who the next ruler was, it was the oldest child of the King, the one who always inherited the powers of the current king. The power which was able to create or destroy a whole nation. The power that was recognized by a streak of silver hair or by the omnipotent, dragon statue that was carefully placed in front of the stage.

The stage was decorated with a purple curtain at the back to make sure the royal family had a dazzling entrance, every piece of light and chairs were orderly placed to make sure the royals were as comfortable as possible.

The throne was placed right in the middle of the stage, showing off its power with the colour gold. The Queen's seat was different, it was red, blood red, complementing the source of all secondary power by being on the right of the throne. Finally, the new addition of the line, which was placed to the left, was a white throne, with golden lines crossing through it. Decorated for the prince, or of course, the new king.

The Queen stepped out, she was full of kindness but when she was set off, she was full of cruelty, the perfect Queen for this kingdom. The Queen was absolutely breathtaking, her long blonde hair swayed upto her hips, her gentle face was covered by a veil which allowed you to still be able to see her penetrating beauty. Her eyes were shining with pride, afterall, her son was ready to take the throne. Next was the King, his eyes full of pride as he walked to his throne, his long black beard made people assume he was wise. Finally, the best was saved for last, as the prince gracefully walked to his throne, his green eyes were filled with arrogance as he couldn't wait to become the crown prince and prove his superiority to everyone.

I took a big breath, filling cold air inside my lungs as the show began. The clock struck midnight, and everyone's eyes were staring at the prince, most specifically his hair.

Nothing happened.

The King let out a loud cough, demanding for attention, as he caught the audience's eyes.

"Let the Dragon decide." A simple sentence was spoken by the emperor, pushing all the responsibilities onto the statue. This statue was deemed special, it only stood up for justice, and spoke when the ruler was chosen. The Dragon had a spirit inside it, people say that the spirit protects the emperor from falling for any misfortune or any danger to her or his life.

I admired the statue as it was able to stand up for the right things, without bearing any consequences. No matter how many times you try to kill it, it will not die, not now, not ever.

The Dragon was a simple grey statue of a dragon. Many mistake it for a mere piece of decoration, made by human hands but those who knew the truth, knew the mighty power of God.

The statue couldn't be seen by anyone but the royal family as it was positioned only for the royals view. Something glowed red and it finally spoke with it's deep and thunderous voice.

"No!" It replied. The deep voice slowly filled the room.

I slowly blinked, hearing the confusion of all the guests inside the palance, how they were questioning everything they knew about the prince. The King's face was bewildered. The Queen lost all the pride in her eyes which were replaced by a domineering aura.

The Queen slowly looked at the King, giving off a strong aura that made you bow to her. Why not?

There were rumours all the time about the King's affairs, and how he killed each one off when he wasn't interested anymore.

Whenever she heard this, she ignored it, as love was truly blind. She even sacrificed her freedom to be a Queen for her love. Without even knowing she was a trophy Queen, nothing more.

The King wanted to say something, as soon as the television went off. I looked around my big room, fit for a noble. Why didn't I go?

I looked at the mirror, watching my wavy chest-nut hair come up to my hips. My dull brown eyes, complementing my clear skin. My eyes scanned properly again, and there it was. The silver streak on my hair, right at the front.

I was hoping that it would go away, that everything that occurred after my 18th birthday, was just a dream. But no matter how hard I tried, or how hard I rubbed my hair with chemicals and water, it didn't seem to wash away.
