Chapter 7 - My Kingdom for a Flamethrower!

"A flamethrower, a flamethrower! My kingdom for a flamethrower!

"Stop weeping. Your tears are watering the weeds. We'll have to do more work if you're helping them grow."

"If we burn it all down there won't be any work to do."

"You burn my garden down and I'll sic Kai on you."

"Yes, my lord! You called for me?!"

Finnegan shivered in fright and hurriedly crouched back down to pull out weeds. The force of this action nearly had him eating the soil as he buried his head into his knees.

"Kai! We're over here near the pavilion."

The high pitched creaking of wheels stopped in front of Vincent.

"Go to Sir Asoka's shop and ask if he could help me find a new gardener. And why you're there, get a check-up. Your screws seem to be coming loose."

"Sure thing!"

As Kai headed towards District Rhubarb to complete his errand, bringing his creaking along with him, the courtyard fell into quiet once again.

That was until a beep sounded from Finnegan's BrainCell and a lilting voice was emitted from it, "...burning kills pests and disease-causing organisms in the soil." Vincent brought the spade lying next to him on the ground above his head and ran after Finnegan, who had dashed off before his BrainCell had even finished the sentence.

Finnegan returned to the palace after having lunch at Vincent's residence and leaving him with the accounts of the individuals from B-612, who had registered at the Identification Office over the past two days. As he was flicking through them, Harvey Brennan's Evolved trait caught his eye. As a motor Evolved trait himself, Vincent was very interested in how this type of trait manifested within the boy, especially as Harvey's information stated he was at least an advanced level motor trait. This category was the third-lowest rate of manifestation in the records with 7% possessing a minimum level and only 2% were of an advanced level. With more than 90% of motor Evolved trait individuals within the growth level and less than 1% placed in the core level, this trait was not well-understood and was only known to the general public as a mental branch of categorisation to do with concentration or lack thereof. Therefore, this boy from a planet that lacked technological developments, where the detection and tests for Evolved traits would not be as sensitive but was nonetheless still classified as a motor trait, was an exciting opportunity for Vincent. As the only high-level advanced motor that he knew, Vincent was eager to exchange notes and talk extensively with the boy, despite being three times his age.

Evolved traits, within their physical and mental branches and the categories under those branches and the sub-categories under those categories, were sorted into four levels; growth, minimum, advanced and core. These levels were separated by the effect of the Evolved trait on a person's everyday life. Growth meant there were almost no advantages or disadvantages of possessing the Evolved trait, where it seemed more evolutionary than an actual Evolved trait. A minimum level was where the trait would manifest in an individual's everyday life but did not majorly affect a person's normal functioning. An example of such would be Theodore Brennan, who was able to sense movement in a way that could be described as feeling the rippling of the air and ground around him. But this only applied for objects that were at the smallest the size of fish and they had to have made a noticeable disturbance within a five-metre radius of himself. It was because of this evolved trait that Theodore had become very adept at catching fish of high mecha stone quality as he had learnt to differentiate the movements of fish with high quality and concentration of mecha stones and those that didn't. Advanced levels were people whose Evolved trait was a major part of their lives and appeared frequently to disturb their normal functioning. Core levels were an extreme of the advanced level.

Since the privacy of the citizens were strict, Vincent was not able to access any more information about Harvey Brennan beside his category and level of Evolved trait, age, gender, family members and future school. Although, he could just wait for Harvey to be enrolled in school in the next few days to find out more. Vincent read Harvey's brother's information and was slightly disappointed, hoping for another motor in the family. But Imre Brennan was an empath of the core level and empaths were one of the highest occurring categories of Evolved traits, thus lending itself to be highly well-researched.

The level of a person's Evolved trait did not determine the power or advantages of a person's trait. In fact, mental branch categories of core levels were typically pitied.

Vincent continued flicking through the accounts checking their Evolved traits as well as making sure that there was nothing out of the ordinary for their assimilation into Garden. He noted down a few other people who caught his attention; Oswald Forrest, Amell Wyatt, Mathew Dahl...

But the most important item on the agenda was to find a gardener before Finnegan burned his whole residence down with his attempts to help.
