Sapphire stomach rumbled loudly. She was hungry and hot. The apartment AC unit had malfunctioned last week. Her babies kept kicking as if rioting for lack of food.
The last grocery Alec brought over was already finished. He was due to come again today but he was an hour late. She really hoped that Bryan's security had not caught him or she would die of hunger.
At times like this she asked herself why her mother took her with her when she didn't want her. Why her father had taken so long to find her. She had overheard Maria talking on the phone one day to one of her snobby friends. It was a conversation that made her realise that her mother was only after money. She didn't even love Bryan. When the opportunity of more money came, she greedily took it. She heard her mother saying that she had slept with a man five years younger than him at some charity event in New York in hopes of getting pregnant and trapping him with the baby. She had gotten pregnant went back to the mans penthouse suite to deliver the news but it all backfired on her when the man demanded full custody upon the child's delivery. Maria just turned and walked away never to be seen again since the man didn't even know her name only the face. She never blamed her father for not being around and always wished her mother had agreed to her father's conditions then she would not be living a miserable life.
She was on the verge of tears when she had a knock. She hoped and prayed that it was Alec and not her creepy landlord.
Alex pulled up at a rundown apartment that had him worried. He really hoped Alec had given him the wrong address.
"Sorry Alex, this is the only place I could afford with the little money Sapphire and I had saved. My father cancelled all my credits cards until he was sure that I was done helping her." Alec said sadly.
"It's no problem Alec, you helped and that's all that matters." Alex pointed out. He couldn't believe that his daughter had to live like because of those people. He would surely make them pay.
As they climbed the stairs to the second floor, Alex was worried that they would give up any second.
Alec knocked on a door at the end of the hallway. The door immediately opened, and before Alec could utter a word, Sapphire snatched the bag from his hands. She didn't even notice Alex.
Alex on the other hand was on the verge of tears. He couldn't believe it. His daughter was so beautiful in person, the photos did her no justice. She had thick, curly waist length red hair. She was pregnant with his grandchild and malnourished. The first thing he would do when they got back to the estate was call the family doctor.
"Won't you at least invite us in?" Alec's playful question pulled him from his reverie.
"You know you are always welcome Alec. I just need to feed this babies first."
Alex didn't miss the word 'babies'. He looked at Alec his brows furrowed. Alec just nodded his head.
They entered the clean apartment and softly closed the door. Alex looked around, the place was so bare. Sapphire seemed to have not unpacked her duffle bag that held all her belongings.
Sapphire was busy stuffing her face, she barely even noticed the older man in the room.
When she was done she heaved a contented sigh as she rubbed her stomach soothingly.
"That was some good stuff you got there." She said turning around. "Where did yo-" She stopped mid sentence when she finally noticed they were not alone.
"Hello, Sapphire." Alex croaked.
Sapphire just stood there with her mouth agape. The man seemed familiar to her. Familiar, red hair, blue eyes and facial structure.
"A-Alec, why does this man look like me?" She asked.
"Well, Sapphire meet Alexander Galanis, your father." Alec answered awkwardly.
Sapphire couldn't believe her ears. Just a while ago she was wishing for her father, and now here he was in her presence looking as distraught as she was.
"Is it true?" She paused. "You're my father?" She asked crying a river.
"Yes, darling. After long eighteen years, I've finally found you." Alex's eyes watered.
"What took you so long?" She couldn't help but ask.
"Believe me darling, your mother didn't want me to find you. It's as if she wanted me to suffer knowing that I had a daughter out there but could not find." By now he had tears streaming down his chiseled face.
Sapphire's knees buckled almost toppling to the floor, but her father caught her in time. They both did even realize it when they embraced each other.
Sapphire immediately felt safe in his arms. His love for her practically filled the room.
Alec just watched them with teary eyes. He could finally see the longing Sapphire held for her father's love being satiated. He was happy for her and he wanted to see her happy from now on. He decided to take Alex's offer on joining them knowing that it would make her happy.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't find you sooner. I promise nobody is going to hurt you from now on." Alex declared.
"Please don't leave me again daddy." Sapphire begged holding him tighter. "I can't do this alone."
"I'm here baby, I'm here." Alex soothed her. He was so happy when she called him daddy.
Alex reluctantly let go off. "I hope it's not too soon, but I would like to take you from this place. Let me take you home." He said softly.
"What about Alec?" She asked looking at Alec through blurry eyes.
"I asked if he could join us. It's all up to him Sapphire." He felt good to finally address her in person.
Sapphire looked at Alec with hope in her eyes and a small pout.
"Don't worry Saph, I did promise to paint the nursery."
Sapphire was so happy she was literally bouncing on her toes.
"Let's head out darling, I'm sure the rest of the family are eager to meet you." Alex said.
Sapphire didn't need to be told twice, she just picked up her duffle bag.
Sapphire hoped that this new discovery was the miracle she always wished for.
