Chapter 10 - Disowned

Bryan Fontana was on his fourth glass of Jack Daniels. He's been drinking excessively since his profits decreased. If this trend was to continue for another year, he would have to cut his expenses which would not please his wife and daughter who always wanted to live the rich life. If worst comes, he would have to sell his mansion and move to a suburb.

Bryan really needed this partnership with Wentworth Inc or he would be done for. He believed that Hunter would save them from probable bankruptcy.

He sometimes even wished that he should have let Sapphire stay. He would have made use of her brain since she was a genius. He remembered one time he had been trying to solve a financial problem that could cost him millions if he got it wrong. Even his accountant with twenty years of experience couldn't solve it. Sapphire was at the other end of the table doing her homework silently. He went to the bathroom for not more than five minutes. When he was about to enter the dining room he saw Sapphire quietly stand from her seat and made her way to his work station. He got curious and decided to watch her, see if she stole anything. She took the worksheet with the problem and worked it out very quickly. Not more than two minutes later, she put the worksheet back and sat down where she originally occupied.

Bryan sat back down pretending he hadn't seen anything. When he looked at the worksheet, his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. The problem had already been solved and the answer was a positive not a negative like he had been getting.

That day his step daughter that he never liked had saved him from losing millions. He always thought that if Sapphire was to ever get into business, she would be a force to be reckoned with.

"Honey, you need to stop drinking. Tomorrow you have an important meeting with Mr Wentworth." His wife reminded him.

Bryan knew that already but chose not to respond.

When Maria saw that her husband would not answer, she decided to try again. "You know I heard from Kelly Mason that the owners of the Majestic manor up the hill are back."

"The Galanis?" Bryan asked his wife who nodded excitedly. "I've been trying to get into partnership with them but they always say about waiting for the next heir to take over in three or five years." He said his interest showing. "We could become billionaires in no time if we got that partnership, wouldn't even need the Wentworth's." He concluded.

"That's why I was thinking, we could go over and welcome them, get on their good graces." Maria suggested. You could practically see her eyes shine with dollar signs.

Bryan thought that was a good idea. He was about to answer when the front door opened with a bang.

"What is this time Summer that made you bang my door?" Maria asked exasperated.

"Is Alec home yet, Hunter saw him get into a car with a man after school." Summer came into view, Hunter not far behind her.

"What man?" Bryan asked scowling.

"Never seen him before, but he drove a very expensive car." Hunter pointed out.

"Whatever, maybe one of his art friends. Good thing is that he isn't sneaking around to see that red headed girl."

Maria didn't want to remember her mistake daughter. "So are you guys ready to get married after graduation." She changed the subject.

Summer squealed happily. "Yes mommy, we are so excited." She gushed while Hunter just grunted. He only wanted to become richer that's why he was agreeing to this marriage. He would still continue to play the field, he was young and wild after all.

It was about half past seven when Alec got home. He was already past his curfew but he didn't care. One thing he failed to tell Sapphire was that his father had been beating him ever since he found out that he was helping her. The rest of the family just watched even saying that he deserved it. Today he would make sure that he leaves this house and not look back. He had already found a family in Sapphire and maybe in the future the Galanis family would become his too.

Alec had barely stepped into the house when a punch welcomed him.

"Where have you been?" Bryan asked angrily.

"Out." He answered emotionless after recovering from the punch.

"I need a better answer than that." A livid Bryan shouted.

Alec was past caring so he answered the first thing that came to mind. "Honestly, I'm was trying to get away from you people."

Maria and Summer gasped offended.

"What?" Bryan was surprised.

"I really don't know you people anymore." He turned to his mother. "Mother, you only care about social status, couldn't even take care of your youngest. You threw her out like she's trash. Summer, you only care about yourself. Father, you never cared for us, just put money in the bank account and you are father of the year, right?" He asked rhetorically. "Hunter, you were my best friend, I told you not to use Sapphire's vulnerability for your own benefits, but you did. You even got her pregnant and denounced the baby. I'm telling you right now Hunter, you'll regret it." Alec made his way up the stairs. "Oh, I'm leaving tomorrow with Sapphire, she has been more family for two months than you've ever been in the last eighteen years." He concluded.

The rest of the family was left dumbfounded.

The next morning, Alec woke up refreshed. He had already packed the night before.

As he went down the stairs with his luggage in tow, his family was waiting for him.

"Wow, this surprising. Are you here to see me off or what?" He asked sarcastically.

"Think about this carefully Alec. If you leave I will completely cut you off. That means no art gallery." Bryan threatened.

"Awww.." Alec pouted mockingly. "You really think that will stop me? I'll open an art gallery with my own money even if it means working a dead end job." He said firmly as he made his way to the front door.

"You leave me no choice then. I disown you. You no longer have the right to call yourself a Fontana." Bryan said nonchalantly. Maria didn't even try to stop him. She just checked her nails.

"From now on, I have one less child." He concluded.

"Figures." Alec muttered quietly making his way out of their lives.

It really hurt him that he would disown that easily.

He made his way from the estate. His car was still at Alex's residence who had told him that he would send someone to pick him up.

True to Alex's word, Alec found Andrew waiting for him in his red mustang.

"Hey, man." Alec created Andrew.

"Hey. Are you alright?" Andrew asked after noticing Alec solemn expression.

"I just wish I could have realized some things sooner, then maybe things would have been different." He said.

"Alright kid. Get in." Andrew said. "I still haven't met my niece well."
