The two days he promised was way too long. I was rather bored at home. My daily routine was my morning trainings, eat, design, eat, watch movies or series while eating then sleep and then the cycle goes on.
Well, it's just two days but I felt it was more than that. But the training helped calm all my nerves and restrain my emotions. I thought I was rusty in using the sword but hey, I'm a pro. I could still shake the hard dummy that grandfather provided.
I was training then when the doorbell rang. I never really cared of who came, my butler would deal with whomever it is.
But today was the promised day, so I stopped swinging the sword and made ready to receive him when the butler came looking for me.
"Madam, someone is looking for you."
"Who is it?"
"A man named Ren."
"Let him in."
He bowed and went to the door. Papa German – my endearment to him since I was little – has been with our family since the day I was born. He is rather old, older than my father, but it didn't hinder his job as the perfect butler. I persuaded him to take a rest and that I'll look for a new one, but he sincerely rejected. He said he promised my grandfather that he'll stay by my side until the right time comes.
What that right time is, I really don't know. I just hope that he'll live long enough until I found someone who would accompany me when I age. But that's a sad part in my life. I am starting to believe that looking for a husband is a really hard task.
I sighed then wiped my face of sweat and went into the receiving area. There I found him coming in from the door.
He was looking fresh, wearing his favorite black shirt and jeans. He looked at me and his brow raised, "Gym?"
I shrugged, "Sort of. Could you wait for a minute, I'll change clothes."
He crossed his arms in front of his chest, his eyes mocking me.
I rolled my eyes, "I'll be quick, but definitely not one minute. Papa German, please entertain our guest, I'll just change."
I didn't wait for him to reply as I dashed upstairs into my room. I quickly took a shower and chose a simple navy blue shirt and skinny jeans. I applied a little foundation, just to keep me protected from the sun and a little lip tint, a little fragrance then tied my hair in a ponytail.
Voila! So pretty me! Who would even dare to mock and bully a pretty girl like me. I looked at myself one last time and sighed. "Gorgeous."
I quickly got down holding my tiny backpack because I really don't like wearing shoulder bags. Grandpa Bo said shoulder bags are dangerous as the weight is only carried by one side of the body. He said that for a strong and healthy back, I have to use a backpack. So I have been using it since then.
"Okay, I'm ready," I said as I reached the bottom of the stairs.
Ren looked at me as if dumbstruck.
I smirked and thought, 'Huh, I'm so pretty right? Don't look too much or you'll be blinded by my beauty.'
I giggled when he still didn't move. So I approached him and asked sweetly, "Ren?"
He looked at me, and then his gaze went behind me, and then back to me, then behind. I was curious so I looked back.
There I found a big portrait of my grandfather. Why is he looking at it? Do we really look alike?
I chuckled, "We look alike right? He's my grandfather."
Memories came flooding back in – of how he taught me to fight using a sword, knife, shuriken, arrow, gun, and even my bare hands and feet. He was strict, very strict. But I appreciated that because I have used those in protecting myself. He was my very first love, my very first crush. I know he's old but that's how I felt when I was young. I even thought I could marry him.
I admired him so much that when he passed away, I was depressed for a month. Only reliving his training made me stand back up on my own two feet and faced the world. Even now, his training made me what I am today – a kind but smart boss. Although I have been constantly tricked, sometimes I sense that something was amiss, so the trickery will never progress. Maybe it's my keen sense, developed also by Grandpa Bo.
I sighed, missing him again. I guess he's happy wherever he is right now.
"Where is he now?" Ren cut my thoughts.
"Oh Grandpa? He's dead."
"How? When?"
I looked at him, confused. Why is he so interested in Grandpa all of a sudden? Was the reason he was speechless earlier because of Grandpa's portrait? Well this guy doesn't appreciate what beauty really means.
He looked down and noticed my confusion and evident scowl. "I-I just wanted to know. But if you don't like answering it then don't."
I was still confused and angry. So, he only sighed and dragged me outside.
