Chapter 7 - Unexpected Gifts

-Deep Ocean Floor: Red Tooth Hunting Vessel

[Day 1 of expedition]

Back at the hunting vessel Orfal is stumbling out of the mess hall after a night of drinking and singing with the sailors. If a dwarf can still walk after drinking they can always make it back to their bunk. Orfal however was a special case, he was a dwarf that sober or not couldn't find his room. He had never been shown it yet. So he stumbles off towards the only place he does know--the boiler room.

It takes Orfal's hazy mind a while to remember his way back to the boiler room but eventually he arrives. He couldn't see in detail the spot he found to lay down at but his body felt the warmth from fire. To him that was as good enough spot as any and he plopped down snoring the moment his head reached the ground.

-Midgard: North Pole, Dwarven Protector's Hidden Lair

Vestri is sitting at the control panel watching highlight footage of Orfal's life. Not much of a successful dwarf, matter of fact this Orfal doesn't do much but breeze through life with an unmotivated personality. He is lucky to have his friend Dundrid though, who keeps trying to motivate Orfal through character building trials.

"I like this Dundrid lad, apart from his relationship with Orfal though why do I feel a subtle connection to him," speaks Vestri as he changes the control panels display to Dundrid's life highlights. 'Let's see smart crafter for one who hails from the Cavetoe house. By Sindri's beard what did he design there! It has the look of an innocient rose brooch but it contains such a dangerous explosive charge. That's not something any dwarf could just create. A device that advanced takes generations of slow research and development with science and magic. Where does his crafting knowledge come from. Hmm, lets find out what his true background is.'

Shocked at his find Vestri then spends a few more hours watching Dundrids life highlights all the way from the beginning of his life. "Interesting so he does has some ties to my clan, and he doesn't have any idea of it either. Tisk tisk, those foolish offspring of mine. Throwing out one of the brightest descendants these colonies has produced for me. Along with that poor Orfal fellow I have to correct this Dundrids life as well."

Vestri puts together a nice legacy package for Dundrid. It contains all the basic essentials for crafting. From scientific theories and research notes to overall understanding principles of magic elements and resources, these books are what is taught to each generation of Vestri's offspring. Knowledge like this will expand Dundrid's potential greatly. Dundrid only ever had access to his fathers personal journal notes. Dundrid's spent his entire life trying to master crafting from side notes of books he didn't even know existed. Finally being able to view these books is about to turn his world upside down.

"Now that this is sorted out for Dundrid, what to do with you Orfal," Vestri ponders outloud. Orfal was not a direct descendant of any of the four protector's clans, so whos clans legacy box should he get. Well receiving any of these legacies will make him a target of the familes so instead Vestri thinks of a better idea.

"Since I can't give him anything the four major clans can recognize, I will just gift Orfal one item from each of the protectors personal belongings," says Vestri with a twisted grin on his face. "This will make up for all the endless mocking those other three give me."

For Vestri's gift he pulls out an early volume of his personal crafting journal. This book can elevate the simplist of dwarfs into a grandmaster crafter.

Next Vestri walks over to Sudri's bag and pulls out an elixir. Its contents glows bright gold and has specs of star light floating inside. "Ale of the gods, just a drop should be enough for the lad," he says. Vestri pours out one drop into a vial and quickly seals it up with a cork and hot wax. He then proceeds to stamp the hot wax with his signet ring, causing a thin film of mana to coat the vial.

It is now Austri's turn to suffer after Vestri places the vial in Orfals chest. Vestri sifts through Austri's bag and smiles as he pulls out an axe. "Ahh this will do perfect," Vestri says with glee. "No one crafts axes better then you old Austri." The axe removed from Austri's bag was dark grey in color and visually looked like any plain crafted dwarven waraxe. Austri however was a brilliant smelter of metals and this axe was made from an alloy he calls Agrellitium. This alloy contains mostly adamantium and is among some of the strongest alloys a dwarf can create. The brilliance of this alloy however lies in its apperance. The metal has a 99% simular look to iron. Any fool who assumed they were taking a blow from a simple iron axe would be stunned to find it cleaving through them like a hot knife on butter.

Nordri is last on the list of gift victims and despite his personality he actually has a vast collection of goods. Vestri begins digging through his bag but is startled by an alarm sound coming from the control panel.

*Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding*

After the ringing noise ends a robotic voice says, "Stabalized mana levels have reached reactivity threshold. Commensing wake up protocol for all stasis chambers."

Vestri panics as he realizes the others were going to be woken up any minute now. With no time to linger he pulls out the item his hand is on and throws it into the chest. He then uses both his hands to draw magic runes that circle around both chests and teleports them to the locations of both Dundrid and Orfal.
