Suddenly, the temperature drops down as the thick fog fills the corridor. The doctors and nurses are confused. The patients are panicking. They can't even see their own hands in the fog.
Eli is covering her eyes with his right hand while his left hand is holding his sister's wrist. The sclera of his eyes become black as his golden pupils shine brighter. Siouxsie shudders when she notices the dangerous chill in his eyes.
"Doctor Sanguine?" Nell frowns. "What are you doing?"
"Recognized me, my wife?" Eli's voice is sweet and coaxing while there's no change in his eyes. The fog around them become thicker and colder, but it never touches Nell's skin. "I am glad that my wife can recognize my touch now."
Wife? Siouxsie raises her brow. Her brother married a human. He even marked her the way ghoul mark their lovers. This is amusing. This human seems to have no idea. Otherwise, her brother wouldn't cover this woman's eyes this way.
"I am not an idiot." Nell clicks her tongue. She grabs his hand over her eyes. "Remove your hand."
This situation is bad. How could he let her see him in this way? His wayward sister is also here. He mouthes to his sister, 'Leave or else, I will kill you right here.'
"Why should I leave?" Siouxsie chuckles. "I came here to meet my sister-in-law."
"Siouxsie," Eli growls at her. "Go away."
"I won't go away." She takes a step closer. "When did you get married? You didn't even invite me to the wedding."
Marrying a human? How laughable! Her brother has done it. She can't wait to tell everyone about this.
"We didn't have any wedding." Nell lowers her hand.
Was he ever planning to tell them? Siouxsie retracts her nails. "Fourth Brother, you should have told us. We are your family. When will you bring my beautiful sister-in-law to our home?"
She's going to cook this little human with her own hands.
Eli could guess what's on Siouxsie's mind. He grits his teeth. "Siouxsie, behave."
"I am behaving." Siouxsie folds her arms. "Why aren't you letting sister-in-law see me?"
"Doctor Sanguine, can you remove your hand?" Nell raises her chin. "You are being ridiculous right now."
If it was Julienne or Belinda, he wouldn't be acting this way. This situation can't be avoided. Eli lets go of Siouxsie's hand. The fog dissipates around them. Their eyes return to normalcy. He takes a deep breath and removes his hand from Nell's eyes.
Nell looks at his sister and says, "You are beautiful."
Siouxsie blinks her eyes. It's usual for her to receive flattery, but she rarely gets genuine flattery from another woman. There's not a hint of jealousy in this human's eyes. This human has a pure scent, but her darkness is as enchanting as the womb of the night. "Sister-in-law, can I eat you?"
"No." Eli pulls Nell behind him. He tells Siouxsie with a warning tone, "She's mine."
Since the strange fog is gone, some nurses and patients are watching them with interest. It's a love triangle between the doctor, his little sister, and his wife. Both the doctor and his little sister love doctor's wife. They don't see this type of drama every day.
"Can't you share a little?" His sister pulls a face. "Come on! She's just my type."
Loud gasps are heard. The little sister is asking for his brother to share his wife in bed? This is…
"Everyone's your type." He utters the words slowly with his clenched jaw. "This is my woman. If you ever touch her…"
He doesn't finish his words. Nell is listening. He doesn't want to show his cruel side in front of his wife.
"Fourth Brother doesn't know how to share with his younger siblings." Siouxsie could guess why his brother is holding himself back. She grins at him. "Fourth Brother, she has a delicious scent, right? You have strong control over your desire. I can barely hold myself back at this moment."
"Siouxsie!" Nell coils her arms tightly around his arm when he steps toward Siouxsie. When he looks at Nell, she shakes her head.
Nell peeks at Siouxsie. "Umm… Thanks for your interest, but I prefer if only your brother eats me."
"Really?" Siouxsie wrinkles her forehead. Does this human know the meaning of those words? She looks at her brother who looks equally appalled as her. She gets closer and asks the little human with a low voice that only they could hear, "Do you know that we are ghouls?"
Eli opens his mouth wide. He didn't expect his sister to say it out like this. He's dead for sure. How would he ever explain this to his wife? She is going to leave him now.
"I know," His wife replies calmly.
Wait, what? Eli turns around to face Nell. His wife gives him a nod. How did she find out? When did she find out? Why is she still here?
"I think that you are confused, Sister-in-law." Siouxsie lets out a laugh. Her voice is faint. "Ghouls are creatures who eat human flesh… well, we also eat other things, but I prefer humans the most."
"I am not confused." Nell smiles at her. "He already told me."
When did he tell her? He only mentioned the word when he lied to her about Belinda. Does she think that Siouxsie is also like Belinda? Eli releases his breath.
"You are still with him." Siouxsie looks at Nell with disbelief. "Are you really human?"
"No, I am homo sapiens." Nell cocks her head and laughs.
"But you have a human scent." Siouxsie points at her with trembling hand.
"Why can't homo sapiens have a human scent?" Nell questions her with a mischievous look in her eyes "If ghoul can look like a human, a homo sapien can also have a human scent."
That makes sense. Her brother isn't an idiot. He won't marry a human. This homo sapien is so good that even her scent is human. Siouxsie turns to her brother. "Fourth Brother, where did you find this homo sapiens? I have never heard of them. Are homo sapiens rare creatures?"
Eli exhales. His head is hurting. He feels like he has just survived a catastrophe. He can already see another one coming toward him.
