Chereads / The Unwilling Heir / Chapter 108 - The Joker

Chapter 108 - The Joker

It's been three weeks as the 10's ace of wands. We've been robbing banks and crashing cars, it was an albeit criminal but fun time. They all seemed to like bats and clubs for weapons and they were all strong. As the ace I've called for a sparring lesson every morning so everyone can let out some steam and train with each other. Happy times.

"Hey ace!"

Four of wands called me with a waving hand from the door to the court room. I walked over.

"Someone's here to see you,"

He said as he gestured to the corridor where a young man was standing. He was about my age and seemed to be overly serious.

"And who might you be,"

I asked him, he was a burly guy, bulky in every sense of the word. Tanned skin and a stretched school uniform that had failed to be properly buttoned up. He looked at me with a serious face.

"I am Strength of the Royal Court,"

He said as he put his fist to his shoulder and bowed a friendly bow.

"11's ace of wands, "

I said and bowed back.

"The joker requests your presence, would you please follow me,"

This guy was refreshing, like a new breath of air, I never knew guys like him existed in the delinquent world.

He walked off and I followed.

"Why had the Joker requested my presence?"

Without looking at me or slowing down he answered.

"He has requested your presence, that is all the information I have been provided with,"

Very formal.

We arrived at the building of the royal court. Straight to the top we went, past all staring eyes and open classroom where other members of the royal court reside. Whispers started up though there were also very unique reactions in the mix.

The royal court isn't based off of any strict hierarchy, only the fact that the Joker is at the apex. Though he isn't even part of the set. The positions are most likely given out via character. They have delinquents from all over the world wanting to join so it's not trick that all the people match their position in the court.

We reached the classroom at the end of the corridor and there he dropped me off with 'excuse me' and I went inside to see two people. Neither of them was the young man that I first saw. One of them was a young man with a top hat and and a kind smile, he had unique hair that appeared blue in the sunlight and eyes of gold. The other was a young woman, her manner seemed too mature for her age, her fair skin contrasted to her brown eyes and she had straight blonde hair that was tied into a messy bun.

'Child'

Osric said in my head. He has resorted to calling me child instead of kid, if it's an upgrade I don't know.

'Yes?'

I answered him. He sounded worried.

'Seperate'

I was a bit taken aback at the sudden request.

'Ok'

I concentrated and Osric's spirit started to leave my body, the gold in one of my eyes faded and turned back to blue. The young man suddenly smiled showing his white teeth and dimples.

"Brother!"

He said. I rewinded that and played it again and again in my head. What?? It didn't make sense. Brother?!

"August,"

Osric said with a straight face.

"What are you doing here? Have you left your responsibilities that's not at all like you,"

This August was like a child. He spoke using a higher pitched voice with enthusiasm in every word. I wanted to laugh.

"What about you? Why are you here?"

Osric asked, shoving his hands in his pocket.

"Well I'm just looking after my heir,"

"Send my congratulations to Leona, that still doesn't answer why you are here?"

"Well dear brother, you haven't answered in that matter either,"

I then stepped in front.

"He's here because of me,"

"What does this child have to do with anything brother?"

He let out a sigh.

'Stay out of this!'

He said through the mind link. I stepped back and watched along with the young woman.

"He's my chosen,"

Osric said. Chosen? What's that suppose to mean? August bent over laughing and I could even spot some tears in his eyes that he wiped away from the intense laughter.

"Is this your response to the pressure father put on you for a marriage,"

"Is there anything wrong with finding all the acting succubus disgusting,"

"Nothing wrong at all, after all I had the cream of the crop and I'm never letting her go,"

"Will you introduce us or keep flaunting your wife,"

Wife?! He's that old already? He doesn't look past 18, then again I still look like I'm 13, why can't my growth spurt make me manlier and less of a lotus? Is it that much to ask for? I'm in year 10 already.

"This is Melissa, the high priestess of the royal court and my right hand. I myself am the magician of the royal court. And the Joker, is my son,"

This is messed up.

"You can go upstairs to the rooftop and go say hello child,"

He said to me with a smile, I'm not sure if it had bad or good intentions but I trust Osric.

I went upstairs and there was the young man from the first day of school.

"So we finally meet, Michael,"

He sat below a shaded area with one leg out and the other bend and acting as an arm rest. The other hand was behind him as he sat there as tranquil as the wind that brushed past his hair, making it sway to its rhythm.

He stared at the horizon as I usually do so and he said his greeting.

"Come join me,"

He said as he gestured to the spot of shade beside himself.

"I am Noah, the joker of this disguise of a school,"

He sent a soft smile my way.

"So your the one who's been building all these shelters,"

I said, just putting it out there as I felt the soft breeze across my skin.

"I see I'm not the only one enjoying the rooftops of buildings then,"

I then said back what I honestly thought.

"Looking at the untouchable sky that stretched beyond the mind and the horizon where everything disappears off into. It's comforting in a way. To know that the world is still here and the same."

Silence filled the conversation and we both sat there in each other's company, with the breeze on our faces and the sky in our midst. Someone understands something. That's all I care about.

Soon I fell asleep, lying on the concrete floor and resting with the wind as my lullaby.
