Chereads / The Unwilling Heir / Chapter 75 - 5 days left

Chapter 75 - 5 days left

Just after that story we all headed back to prepare, it was a very short day today that only consisted of that assembly, the nobles seem to be taking it very light on us these few days. Time to digest, is it really that important?

My father always drilled, the best way to digest is to do it over and over again.

It's not like the king could do that anyways. Today, well today, is the second last social of the year. The year went by quickly enough that I didn't even feel the breeze as it went by. I stood outside the room to have a bit more breathing space as I stretched.

"Coming in?"

Eleanor said to me.

"In a minute,"

I looked up at the sky that was barely visible as scatter clouds littered the warm blue. I then looked forward at the scenery of bush and shrub, one that I never got to enjoy enough. Only then did I go inside to see some normal scenery that I have seen many times this past year. The girls on one of the beds playing cards and chatting, the tigers sitting beside each of the girls and helping them win while placing their bet, Dominic lying on his bed and I, going to join Dominic to talk. He must of been bored lying on his bed all day. Everyone wanted to ask if he was over the incident from the throne room and considering his way of speech, I think so.

"What do you think Yuuta is doing?"

I paused at his question.

"I've got something to confess..."

I'm going to tell him, no matter what. This was for the good of Yuuta, right? Yes it was, she would of killed him otherwise, or bankrupt their family. What if they sue the Higashi family for the murder? No they can't, a middle rank and high rank is too much of a difference. Then again Higashi's were always held in high regards for their respect and amnesty.

"Stop thinking and tell me then."

His words broke me out of my chain of thoughts. I've said this much, might as well say the rest then.

"I killed her, I killed Natalia Li,"

He paused before saying.

"If you want to regret that decision, don't. I've watched from afar and I can say that, sure, you were a little arrogant but you still hit the nail on the head."

The tigers got up from their betting positions and came over with serious looks in their faces. Did they over hear?

When they sat behind me I sensed no ill intent , so I sat still and waited. They then broke out into laughter and started patting me on my back.

"Yes, good job."

"I've always wanted to get rid of her,"

"We've all murdered before, well maybe except for Dominic, it's par of noble upbringing."

"The blood,"

"We would of killed of the toxin if you didn't."

"To be honest, our parents wanted to crush the overindulgent parents of that little girl."

They all laughed about it like it was nothing. We then discussed things like her past deeds and other things about her that made her one of the many toxins in the higher classes. This made me feel a little better, I never had a proper reason though, I did it because I thought for someone else. I was such an arrogant and naive little kid, why didn't I think of the consequences.

"Does anyone know what the after shocks of that was?"

They all shook their heads.

"We never heard about the murder, meaning they either kept quiet about it or they went to court to discuss it while we were here. That's the most plausible explanation. The thing is, I don't think they knew it was the heir to Coltus who did the murdering. So it's not clear."

Eleanor explained it like a true business woman, plotting her next take down.

I nodded with disappointment present in my actions.

"Not much time to talk, second last social of the year, let's get it over and done with. "

As it happens to be, there are actually quite a lot of high class families. Some middle class were included in these as well but they were in an event of their own so that there wouldn't be any suppression drama we have to deal with. There are... quite a lot of groups of high class families that are separated and attend each one so no family attends the even twice. This is why their are speeches every night.

Everyone was prim and proper in their formal attire, which was different for ever single night as we were told by the girls we were heading out the door.

The shadow guards were dressed in tuxedos while escorting and guarding us during the ball if anything were to happen. Though, even after a year they are still a mystery.

As we progressed smoothly through the social, the second stage was upon us. I was walking around and observing the dances from afar when a lady of elegant manners and a high standing presence approached me like a true lady would. With elegance and class, not with ulterior motives are that on the surface of the face, not at all trying to be hidden.

"May I have this dance with you, kind sir?"

"You may very well my lady."

And just like that, I knocked over the first domino that connected to the chains that will knock over and eventually all fall.

The dance ended with a cadence that lead her away but before she did that she said something.

"The master will be attending on the last day, make sure you give him a warm welcome. Your time is almost up. "

The master... who might that be other then Elijah. Am I jumping to conclusions to quickly? I can't be, he's the only one. It all matches up and my decision was made long ago.

I rushed back to the room in a hurry before some of them even walked out and speed walked, almost ran back to the dorm to check my suspicious.

A piece of paper, just like any other night.

You'd better made your decision by now

We end on a Friday and that's when my life is either ended or continued on. I, as the decider of that factor, will choose to live.
