Chapter 58 - Chapter 58: Bad Idea, Even for A God!

A raven haired elf made her way through a close of tree to an area of the beach with many trees next to it, yet soft white sand covered the beach.

'The location is different from what she described...' she mused, before looking for the furred serpent she had been informed was the lord.

A woman stepped out onto a rock at the border between beach and forest with a polite smile, gesturing for her to take a seat on a rock opposite.

'Hadn't she said the serpent had a masculine mental force? And this Lord Beast has clearly taken on an elvenoid form out of respect... what really happened?'

'Did she lie about those events?'

Suspicion and many thoughts flickered in her eyes before she showed them away, walking forward to take a seat in a motion filled with elegance.

Kire and the squad he was "assigned" to by technicality walked into a small clearing with some tents set up and around 30 men and women moving around.

"Ah, the newbies are here!"

A few heads swiveled to the squad.

"Why would they even send some greenies to us... do the people at headquarters not remember what the 11th Battalion is even for?!"

Kire's sensitive hearing caught a woman hissing to a man next to her.

"What's a greenie, ma'am?"

She froze and looked up in surprise at being heard, and a few eyes turned to Kire with some interest.

"You're a... hybrid?"

"Huh. Good ears on him..." another muttered as he rolled up a pack, clearing cleaning the remains of the temporary camp.

"So! We moving out soon then?" Kire said with a almost blinding cheeriness, childish and overbearingly optimistic sounding just by tone and movements.

"We are..." a woman drew out as she stood, walking towards the squad. "...but you ain't one of us just yet greenies. And greenies means rookies who go green when they see the depravity this job is."

"You think you're more than a greenie?" A man scoffed, and Kire turned towards him.

He looked into the hybrid eyes of what he considered practically a kid... and found something deep and cold, an ocean with an abyss drowned into itself.

A slight shiver hit him as he stepped back, his honed instinct warning him, and many others here felt it too, leading many eyes to truly focus on Kire.

Kire smiled awkwardly. 'What the heck! I just released a small bit of the killing intent from when I battled those assassins... aren't you all just too damn sensitive?!'

Finally someone frowned, pointing at Kire. "Wait a second... holy SHIT!"

Everyone gave this comrade of theirs a weird look as he began to laugh delightedly.

"The hell Matthias?"

"Hah! Headquarters knew exactly what they were doing for once! That's the awakened!"

"..."

"Hi." Kire waved.

I watched from the ocean as Avaya and a dark-haired elf began to converse.

'Why do I feel like this is one of those "high society" sorta conversations?'

Well I mean. It probably WAS one of those conversations considering their status(?).

'....yeah I'll just go for a swim. Good luck Avaya! I believe in you!'

I wonder how Avaya feels about totally being chucked under the bus by me and then abandoned...

...oops.

"I am lady Noire, of the elven lands."

"I am Lord Avaya of this forest, sea, and mountain."

The formal greetings rang out, ancient and true.

"So what would a race such as the elves need from a Lord Beast of an inferior land?" Avaya cut straight to the point, making Lady Noire raise an eyebrow.

She wasn't used to such direct conversation when communicating with outsiders...

"Well we were hoping the local Lord Beast could tell us if any unique awakened were around the territory?"

Avaya's lips twitched as she fought a smile. "Yes... I apologize for him."

A look of confusion rapidly passed over Lady Noire's face before clearing, so fast Avaya barely noticed.

'Wait... were they NOT asking about him? Were they just going to ignore the insults?'

"The... furred snake? Sorry I'm not familiar with his race."

Avaya shrugged gracefully, leaning back. "I'm not too sure either... I don't think it's a snake though. Originally he had a form somewhat like a Lycan, but recently evolved."

Lady Noire frowned, and this time it stayed. "Recently?"

Avaya nodded. "It was... faster than you'd think."

'Yeah what the hell! I had to slowly absorb energy for years, but he spends 2 nights and somehow entirely changes his physiology?! HOW THE FUCK?!'

"Well... we really do wish to find the strange awakened who managed to catch our interest... we had briefly sensed it in the waters, but it seemed like a creature of land for the most part from the impressions it's lifeforce gave."

"So you're willing to... ignore small issues in the face of such a thing?"

"What issues?" Lady Noire smiled softly, and Avaya matched it with a slight grin, held back in propriety.

"I understand... I'll see if any awakened recently had a unique experience within the waters of this coast."

"Thank you."

As the sun set...

"What are you doing?" Avaya asked me in confusion as I sniffed the air around where she and the elf had sat.

"Trying to get her scent?" She was genuinely confused, but I sent a message of denial and continued my task.

Who cares about an elf's scent!

I mean sure she smells nice, but I'm not that pathetic!

I'm here to gather the last bits of the wood/unfinished element she's left in the area!

Not only does it increase the sample within me to experiment with, but also hopefully slows down whatever it does to the surrounding world momentarily.

I don't know what the fuck this shit does yet, so I'm constantly taking all the bits I myself am emitting and doing whatever I can to delay it's effects.

You know what happens when people leave a strange new source of energy and let it interact with the world freely?

Cancer from FUCKING radiation!

I mean I doubt this mostly lifeform and healing based particle will cause cancer, but still!

Very suspicious. It's good to try and be cautious, right?

My body can definitely withstand anything, and as long as I don't infuse it into my space, I can remove it from me if I really want to.

I just wish I could figure out what the fuck this actually is?

Some bits of the light element seem shattered into it, resulting in the golden dust.

The green, the gold... it's all like an unfinished function in a program, where somehow made some new code but tried to copy some old to reach a core piece of the program that is not made to be interacted with?

Honestly it's like they made a new form of magic but got too greedy and tried to-

...

Oh no. Oh that would be incredibly stupid, even for a god! That isn't shit that this world will let you mess with!

Trust me, I've done very little except awaken people, blow up a worm, steal from some bandits and become an entirely new form of dragon... okay I've done a lot.

But the thing I've done the most is experiment with magic and the laws that govern this world and their differences with Earth's.

Magic changes the formula, and certain things like the soul actually can be quantified.

But there is still some shit that science AND magic CANNOT FUCKING TOUCH.

Fake-Ass "God's" cannot-no! Bad idea!

'Oh go fuck me sideways and burn down a village to steal their gold if I'm right about this.'

This god is trying to make life itself their bitch.

Fuck me.
