Chapter 2 - Rough Beginnings

The village of seilis was where all this began. Born and raised in an environment isolated from any major cities, this was a haven for the peace loving human, or was it? My father addresses our village as to be 'flawless' but from all I've experienced there's crime, corruption and poverty to name a few of the so called flaws in this village. These flaws make me want to change this little village into a much better place to enjoy life in, however my father does not see anything that requires change. This clearly shows that my father and I are very different. My father is one of the most skillful warriors and martial artists in all of seilis, but I'm not my father. Any means of combat was not to my liking, and it is shocking considering our villages history. Wars that our locals call 'shadow wars' have been going on for centuries, but finally after around 850 years of on and off wars, peace has settled in for nearly 5 years now. I've hated such wars and maybe it is mainly due to the traumatic death of my mother, she passed away about 6 years ago due to one of these battles. I've been living with my two elder sisters and father till now. However, one family member that really gets me wondering is my grandfather. He was the sensei of the martial art school in our village but due to his old age, the title of sensei was passed down to my father. My grandfather is a mysterious man and no one really knew about his past or who he really was till now.

I was awaken by the sound of crying and the sight of tears. The initial expression was to burst into tears myself but something just felt different, it's as if I already knew there was nothing to cry about. I approached my father stealthily as to not to get him too worried, he saw me wiped his tears away and broke out the news. "Your grandfather is extremely ill and might not be able to live for very long". I wasn't really that worried, I barely knew him but something about everyone else's reaction showed that they were much closer to my grandfather than I was. However, I knew I had to console them and that's exactly what I did.

A couple weeks go by and one evening my grandfather summoned me into his room. I was confused as to why he all of a sudden wanted to see me, was it to leave behind wealth because I could've really used that. I met him at his room around 15 minutes later, the smell of cigarettes and coffee gave the room a different aroma to the rest of the house, one that I enjoy till this day. Shortly afterwards, he sat me down and said "look how much you've grown, a real man now" as he looked at me in a sort of creepy manner. I couldn't really do much so I nodded along. He then started yapping about one of his war time stories that he used to tell my siblings and I way back in the day but this time something catches my attention. "I dreamt of the day that got such an amazing family; a dream I've been having before the shadow wars even broke out" he said. The shadow wars have been going on for centuries, how was it possible he was alive? I was confused and asked him how was he alive centuries ago? He let out a little laugh, stood up, walked to the door and shut it. "A gift or curse I had to bare it", he said. I was so confused but continued to listen attentively. He took a seat and lit up a cigarette, and continued, "I'm cursed with a power that people think are god-like". His weak body rejected to even keep him upright as he spoke but despite his condition, he stood up once more, reached over to his cupboard and pulled out a sword. "Immortality", he whispered. He used the sword to keep him upright and sat back down once more. He asked me to take the sword, I refused to wield any weapon that caused harm or that was used in the war. However, I thought to myself ,"if that's what my dying grandfather wants then might as well". I held out my hand and he placed it, I wielded the sword in my hand but not a second goes by it vanishes into thin air. My grandfather let out a quiet laugh before losing balance and falling back onto the bed. "Grandpa!", I screamed. This alerted everyone else and not a moment passes by when everyone stormed in through the door. I held my grandfather in my arms and with his dying breath, he made out the words, "live long Lone Wolf"!
