Avery struggled to free herself as she was trembling uncontrollably. The man is hateful! From gripping her jaw, Xander wiped her tears and let her go afterwards.
"Fix yourself," he whispered harshly. " We will rejoin the party for the announcement of our engagement. Smile to everyone."
"You are a monster! I will not marry you!"
He smirked at her declaration.
" You have no choice in this matter Amelia. Your family is knee deep in debts and your father's businesses would have gone bankrupt if we didn't intervened. I hate to break it to you my love but you are your father's payment. Be thankful that I'm accepting this arrangement." Xander sarcastically quipped.
"Over my dead body!"
" Then prepare to die. This marriage will push through even when you are in a coffin. Give me your hand!", he commanded.
Avery wasn't able to react when he held her hand and slipped a ring on her finger topped by a diamond the size of a pigeon egg. She was about to rebeliously get it off when she heard his threat.
" Get that off your finger and I will ensure that your whole family will be thrown off the streets tomorrow.'" he angrily said.
Damn! This is a nightmare. I will wake up soon. Avery reasoned with herself. She almost jumped when he put his hands on her waist and guided her inside the villa.
The guests whispered around when they rejoined the party together. They were speculating on her relationship with the general's son and believed that they are together based on the way Xander possessively holds her.
" Do you see that? Poor Amelia. If they are in a relationship, I pity her. I heard that Xander Yu is heartless and sadistic. He likes to beat women. He is good looking but he doesn't treat others well." one of the ladies quipped.
"How can they be together already? The Yus have just returned here for a month." another girl asked.
Avery maintained a stoic facade while Xander remained expressionless on their way to their parents. She saw an elegant lady standing beside her father and the general. Based on how similar her looks is to her, she assumed that this is Amelia's mother.
" Oh, here you are both! Xander, I hope you both had a good time." her mother smiled warmly when they approached.
" You have a lovely garden Auntie."
" You shouldn't call me auntie anymore. After all, we will be family soon. Your engagement will be announced tonight and the wedding is next month already.," Mrs. Tang smiled condescendingly.
Avery's mouth dropped! The night was full of shocking revelations that she wanted to faint. Wedding next month?! It's crazy!
