Chapter 4 - If there's one thing that's tricky, it's love

Born William Kendal in 1875, he committed suicide in 1900 by throwing himself in front of a train after his girlfriend never turned up for a theatre date.

It took a bit of digging but I also found the girlfriend's records and photo too.

Let's hope this love magic spell works, with a bit of luck Bill will think the spell is really his girlfriend. If there's one thing that's tricky, it's love.

Slowly like mist, an image of a woman rose from the drawn pentagram.

Instantly Bill reacted to it:

"Gloria."

The image flickered for a moment then pulled focus to reveal a woman in her early 20's dressed in a long Victorian gown. "Oh Bill." It said with a shaky cockney accent. "My love, at last you have come. I thought we would be lost forever."

Slowly, Bill hovered over to the image of the woman. "Never would I leave you Gloria. I have been looking for you for such a long time."

"Oh Bill, have you?" the spell said.

They each embraced the other and kissed like they had been waiting 118 years to do it. But then as the love spell almost began to work, old Bill remembered he was an embittered man.

His eyes gave a glare. "Why didn't you turn up? Why?"

Wraith shouted to Hex who had been hiding under one of the carriage seats. "Now Hex! Seal the spell."

Hex rushed forward to the pentagram drawing and began ripping it up with his sharp teeth.

With each tear, old Bill and Gloria began to rip apart like confetti.

Bill cried. "Why Gloria? Why didn't you turn up?"

Wraith rubbed his finger and thumb together and whispered a binding incantation to put a final seal to the love spell. It meant that Bill and the spell would be joined forever. Gloria held Bill close as they faded. "I missed my train Bill, and oh how I regret that I never looked for you but let's not worry anymore. Love will never tear us apart again."

Wraith watched as the love spell finally faded out like a gaslight. In the silence that followed Wraith mused.

"Everybody deserves to be loved in the end, I guess."

"Even immortal fools like me."

Graham West has been working on the tubes for over 15 years and had never seen anything like what he saw today. He waited nervously till the strange looking young man and his even stranger looking dog had left the train. He had been given strict orders to let no one near the train.

"Is it...is it gone?" He said to the young man as he stepped from the train.

Wraith put an arm around his shoulder. "More chance of the steam engine coming back my old china. But..."

Wraith looked quickly around as if some great secret was about to be told. "It's goner need a litter pick inside mate." And before the guard could say anything, Wraith and Hex were out of the station and back in their warm comfy cherry coloured mustang.

Wraith gunned the engine. "I never did like trains. Only one way to move round this city Hex." And with that he raced off into the night.
