Three days left for the new moon, a caravan of carriages slithered out of the City of Corinth, making its way to the nearby Forest of the Forgotten War. Legend has it that the forest grew over an ancient battlefield and is filled with the hatred and grievances of fallen soldiers. Due to the accumulation of such negative energy, monsters and the undead inhabited the forest. The wood from the trees within the forest has resistance towards curses and also enhanced magical circuitry within, making it a desired commodity for Job Classes based on magic such as wizard, healer, etc excepting curse spellcasters aka shaman.
Atreidus and his brother Ajax along with Cersei and Lucius rode in the rear of the convoy. Ajax was polishing his battle-ax as Atreidus was testing the tautness of his bowstring. Atreidus had the job class of Hunter while his brother Ajax was a Berserker.
The Job Class in this world was now simple. Within each person lies the ability to perceive their job class. At the age of 7, a child can recognize his job class and train accordingly and gain skills. Within each person above the age of 7 exists a status board as thus:
Status:
HP: MP: Level:
STR: AGI: VIT: INT: SOUL:
Job Class:
Generally, HP denotes health, and if it hits 0, a person dies. Its value lies around 10 times the value of Vitality (VIT). MP exists for Magic based Job Class or anyone with an artifact that possesses magic. Its value lies around 10 times the value of Intelligence (INT). Strength (STR), Agility (AGI) and Intelligence (INT) also form the basis of Job Classes.
Job Classes such as warrior, brawler are Strength based jobs, Ranger based on Agility and Mage or Wizard on Intelligence (previously stated as Magic based). There exist certain jobs that involve 2 or even all attributes, such as berserkers are Strength and Agility, Magic Swordsman and Hero have all 3 attributes.
Soul is the only metric for which no scholars, saints nor gods have a definite answer to its quantifiability. Soul is a metric that denotes the quality of the soul of the person but it is indecipherable even to the person himself. However, the ability to learn and upgrade skills, holding artifacts, creation of talismans and forging magic weapons and artifacts all depend on the soul.
At the age of 7, after a job class is obtained, the first 3 levels are gained by training. Further levels are obtained by killing strong monsters or by acts of greatness! With a unit increase in level, the attribute that forms the basis of your job class increases by 15 points while remaining attributes increase by 10 points.
Depending on the quality of souls, one can learn 2 to 6 skills and hold 1-4 artifacts. Skills can be trained by specific movements or actions or can be obtained as a monster kill drop. Skills are of 3 types Blue class which has a skill level up counter stop at 3 and is found in 80% of all skill dropped by monster kills, Green class having a counter stop at 4 and rarity of 14% and Red class having a counter stop at 5 and rarity of 6%.
Artifacts are natural occurring objects of power that are blessed by a spirit, god or essence of nature. It gives MP to job classes that don't have MP. Once equipped, artifacts also grow with their wielder. Some powerful families have artifacts nourished by the pride of their generation and are handed down, making their artifacts too powerful.
Sitting within the carriage, Lucius was reading the book "Poems of the War General" by General Telemachus of the Greek Legion while within his luggage rested the books "Of Gods and Men" by Sage Polysentius and "Arithmetics and Geometry" by Scholar Appolonius. The books were mass-produced by stamping carved blocks of wood onto paper. Paper is costly hence buying these three books left little change to buy a rudimentary short sword that lay resting next to Lucius. The carriage ride was for 2 days, wherein Lucius had planned to split his training time into jogging along with the caravan, running ahead and practice pulling a heavy sack of sand, and weapons (Spear and Sword) practice during caravan stops. After lunch till sunset was his time to read, listen, and enjoy the view of wide pasture lands slowly turning into the outskirts of a forest.
The frontier village is named Perseus, after the Army General Perseus who became the Lord of Corinth after retiring from the Legion. This village was the first frontier village planned under his rule and is named after him. The caravan held the woodcutters, hunters, farmers, and family to inhabitate the village. The plan is to live in tents till houses and farmlands are built. A few soldiers also accompany the caravan for the protection of the village. Two days were spent and another 2 for building the houses and farmlands. All the while Lucius was known as the Scholarly Training Freak. He asked guidance in swinging the sword from the soldiers and trained his body like the mad Spartan that he is. Ajax and Atreidus too accompanied him in his learning from time to time. Cersei took the opportunity to set herself up as a head healer in the village, after seeking permission from Hippocrates Guild.
2 years later. It was the day Lucius turns 7, and gain his Job Class. His parents had now saved enough money to get him his status board, which showed his Job class, Level and any records of Punishment. The whole village was in anticipation of his class, as in the past 2 years he had become strong enough to hunt wild animals on his own. The village was divided into factions that, believed he would become a weapon master due to his use of various weapons (bow included in the last 2 years) and others that believed he would become a Mage due to his still and calm mind.
