Chapter 3 - Skills and Special Traits

"Calm your mind, seek the knowledge within! Focus and you'll know your status!" Atreidus explained as Lucius was sitting cross-legged with closed eyes.

Lucius opened his eyes slowly whilst also scrunching his eyebrows. Atreidus could see confusion in his son's eyes. "What is the matter, boy?" asked Atreidus. "What are traits father?" enquired Lucius in a quiet and secretive tone. Atreidus rushed to the windows, bolted them shut and pulled Lucius into the inner chambers of their log cabin. Alarmed Atreidus spoke "Don't mention your traits to anyone! Traits generally are mystical skills that are not bound to your soul quality. Depending on the soul people can learn 2 to 6 skills, but traits are not bound to such limitations. It's similar to a monster's racial ability, like a Gorgon's stare. Followers of Gods receive extra skills because Gods can grant traits. Some exceptional people get their traits themselves, according to their job class."

"What is your job class and trait?", asked Atreidus. "Magic Weaponmaster and Trait is Weapon Provenance (Unique)". "Magic? I expected something like Weaponmaster. But Magic? Hmm... It is a rare job class, hence the trait." guessed Atreidus. "Can one meditate and find out what one's skill or trait do?" asked Lucius. "Why not give it a try?" Atreidus replied before rushing out with Lucius's status board to register his son's job class and level at the nearest city, The City of Corinth.

Something about his trait "Weapon Provenance" made Lucius sit in meditation with his spear. Cross-legged Lucius with his spear resting on his erect body, was concentrating his consciousness on his trait. Slightly his consciousness moved towards the bronze spear. A steady flame bright orange in color, hands of a soldier moving between the forests, the smell of a fresh kill, death of a soldier, hunter finding and gifting a spear to his son, a small five year old kid practicing thrusts and slashes. All these images ran through Lucius's mind as his consciousness probed that spear. All these events lead Lucius to figure out that his trait is a useless one that enables him to envision the history of any weapon. When he conveyed this to his parents, Cersei and Atreidus showed a slightly relieved face and asked him about his other skills.

"Spear Arts is a basic Blue class skill that counter stops at level 3 and upon further practice, it evolves into Intermediate Spear Arts which is a Green class counter stopping at level 4. Its final evolution is Spear Mastery which is a Red class that counter stops at level 5. It is similar for swords, archery, and other basic martial arts." explained Cersei, "There are big families and special armed forces that have better martial arts, for example, I belonged to a martial family, based in Crete. They specialized in a sword art called "The Sword of Apollo", due to training in the sword art, my brother and cousins all received a job class of magic swordsmen and the element of light for their magic. I received only Apollo's healing magic."

"Mother, I have loads of questions. Why at your age is your level low? If your family is a strong family, how come we haven't seen them? Why should I not tell my traits to others?", asked Lucius. The rain of questions made both the parents smile with the thought "He is not always calm!!". Cersei with a heavy heart replied "I was not allowed to practice my healing on advanced warriors, hence I couldn't level up with experience. My family threw me out as soon as I married your father as they believed I should have married a nobleman rather than a Spartan Hunter. I have only a brother who occasionally writes to me." sensing his wife's heavy heart, Atreidus decided to answer about the traits. "Traits can be obtained either by God's Blessing or by killing humans with traits. As monsters like Gorgon or Troll have racial traits that are not suited to a human body, killing other humans with traits could give you a higher chance to obtain traits. Some strong family, make their kids kill people with traits. Luckily your trait is a non-combat one, but I would still err on caution and not reveal the trait."

Lucius now faced a dilemma, his spear, sword, and archery were basics and were not strong martial arts. His dreams of becoming strong were being hindered. He was a prodigy who had 2 skills already. Most children would learn skills only after getting a job class, including the children of strong families, but that was because their martial arts are stronger and need more practice to become a skill. But, so stoic was his expression that his parents couldn't guess his dilemma.

The day passed, Lucius was still practicing his spear, sword, and archery. His strength, agility, and intelligence was high. His daily training sharpened his stats and his instincts. His regimen now included meditating to check for elemental affinity as well as studying the human body from his mother. The whole village was abuzz about a boy with the rare job class that walked among them. Many kids yet to reach 7 years of age started training themselves with the expectation, that they could also get a rare job class.

A week later, on top of a small hillock, a boy was sitting cross-legged. The surroundings were blaze with elements of fire, wind, space, and destruction. Lucius opened his eyes with a clear recognition of his elements, as he felt in his instincts that he could incorporate the 4 elements in his attacks.
